We performed a comparison between Cisco Secure Firewall and Stormshield Network Security based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Firewalls solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."One of the nice things about FortiGate is that it can be deployed on the cloud or on-premises. You can actually do both. That's the biggest reason why I stick with this solution as opposed to something like Cisco Meraki. Another nice thing is that I can log directly into a FortiGate or get to it through their FortiCloud access products. They're pretty reliable and consistent. One of the reasons why I started using the product was their single pane of management. I can deploy their line of firewalls in conjunction with their switching and access points, and I can manage the entire network from one interface. I don't have to log into one interface for the firewall, another one for the access points, and another one for the switches. These firewalls have access point controller functionality built right into the system, so I don't even have to purchase additional devices to manage them."
"The wireless control is helpful."
"The main benefit is the grouping of our security monitoring."
"The base firewall features are quite valuable to us."
"Fortinet FortiGate is a scalable solution."
"FortiGate is flexible and easy to use."
"The CLI and GUI do a good job of putting a lot at your fingertips."
"The solution is highly scalable because they have devices that can handle a large amount of traffic."
"If we look at the Cisco ASA without Firepower, then one of the most valuable features is the URL filtering."
"Sourcefire has been a great addition. The visibility and control have been nice."
"It is much better than most of the other firewalls that I have worked with."
"It is very stable."
"The stability of the solution is very good. We can see that it gets even better with every release."
"I love the ASDM (Adaptive Security Device Manager) which is the management suite. It's a GUI and you're able to see everything at a glance without using the command line. There are those who love the CLI, but with ASDM it is easier to see where everything is going and where the problems are."
"There are no issues that we are aware of. It does its job silently in the background."
"Cisco Secure Firewall is reliable, which is why we opted for it during the pandemic for our remote users."
"This solution is quick and easy to configure."
"The most valuable features are the IPS, the firewall function, and the price."
"I like that it works fine. Stormshield is a very good solution."
"Easily manageable in a variety of environments."
"A very robust product."
"The scalability of the solution is good."
"I like how you can configure the rules. There is the task for the rules and a task for the network configuration. It also provides SMD filtering, and it can be integrated with the active directory for the users, their mission, and the VPN configuration. We are here in Sudan, and Stormshield didn't work in Sudan for more than a decade. Stormshield is a very strong firewall and very easy to configure and maintain. I am just working with the firewall solution, and we don't have any other solutions like endpoint solutions or something like that."
"The solution has improved my organization because I can see what traffic is happening and I can use it to block and prevent attacks."
"The support we receive when we need to upgrade is not satisfactory and has room for improvement."
"Maybe they could make some features more accessible, such as a way to translate directions between two networks that share the same subnets."
"They sometimes hide some features and if you want to enable them, you have to go in the CLI, enable the feature and configure it through the CLI. Customers, typically, like everything to be done by the GUI."
"With FortiGate, the main complaint that I have heard is about the technical support."
"Fortinet currently has many products bundled with FortiGate including the basic firewall and load balancer, and I think that that they need to have separate product portfolios for each of these specialized services."
"The logs need to be better. They need to be more visible and easier to access."
"Currently, without the additional reporting module, we only have access to basic reporting."
"Technical support for this solution can be improved."
"Recently, we have been having an issue with the ASA firewall. We haven't found the root cause yet and are still working on it. We failed over the firewall from active to passive and suddenly that resolved the issue. We are now working to find the root cause."
"The solution needs to have better logging features."
"We only have an issue with time sync with Cisco ASA and NTP. If the time is out of sync, it will be a disaster for the failover."
"We're getting support but there's a big delay until we get a response from their technical team. They're in the USA and we're in Africa, so that's the difficulty. When they're in the office, they respond."
"Cisco should work on ASDM. One of the biggest drawbacks of Cisco ASA is ASDM GUI. Cisco should improve the ASDM GUI. The configuration through ASDM is really difficult as compared to CLI. Sometimes when you are doing the configuration in ASDM, it suddenly crashes. It also crashes while pushing a policy. Cisco should really work on this."
"I think the ASA layer is thin. It's always Layer 3 or Layer 4 source controller and doesn't control the Layer 7 traffic. It's important, and you'll need an additional firewall."
"The solution's deployment is time-consuming, which should be minimized and made more user-friendly for us."
"In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard."
"A more user-friendly interface would be helpful."
"With Stormshield, there are difficulties joining things, and it can be complex depending on the architecture."
"The biggest issue was their support department was not able to help us, then everything stops. This is a no-go area for me."
"This solution has a big problem with web filtering and it needs to be improved."
"Improvement is needed in terms of the technical support of the manufacturer."
"This is not a next-generation firewall."
"The SD card could be more secure."
"Stormshield Network Security is quite expensive."
