We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
"The high performance is very valuable, as well as the enterprise reliability features."
"There's lots of flexibility in how we use the resources while also maintaining a small footprint."
"We have been able to consolidate storage into Pavilion. Pavilions are our only SANs because it is a bring your own disk solution. When new drives come out, we are able to take out half of the drives in the system, put in new drives, move our VMs over to the new drives, take the other drives out, and populate those with new drives. Then, we are suddenly twice as dense as we were before. NVMe flash is only going to get denser and cheaper so we can make use of that every couple of years by just throwing newer disks into it at a fraction of the cost of a new SAN."
"In terms of stability, it's good enough. It's okay."
"The solution has a wide variety of valuable features. The data progression works well. We use the snapshot functionality quite a bit and really like it."
"One time, we had a drive fail and we were notified before we even saw it on the device."
"It had many features, like a snapshot, replication, on-the-file RAID levels, mix-and-match files, those kinds of things."
"They have a feature called Live Migrate; it's been very, very useful."
"What is most valuable about the Dell EMC SC Series system was its reliability."
"This solution is easy to use."
"Its leading feature is the price-performance ratio, which is very good."
"The initial setup is very straightforward. It's not overly complex."
"The performance of the solution is good."
"In my opinion, HPE is making good progress and moving ahead with InfoSight, which is predictive analytics and artificial intelligence."
"The features that I have found most valuable are the artificial intelligence for the storage inside of the software and firmware because customers do not like functionalities which require manual interruption."
"One of the most valuable features is the ease of deployment."
"Our customers have given very positive feedback about InfoSign, which is the management software for this solution."
"All of the capabilities of the hardware such as replication, snapshot, and the specific features are all included from the start as opposed to being on another license."
"The most important thing that we had found when we purchased this product around six months back was its 100% availability and uptime."
"The rail system that Pavilion uses to mount up into a standard Dell or APC cabinet extends further back than normal rails, and they cover up the zero PDU slot. So, I don't like the rail system that comes with the device. That is my biggest complaint."
"In our current configuration, we can only run the line controllers in high availability, active-standby mode, whereas we would like to see active-active implemented."
"I would like to see the management layer improved."
"The interface could be improved. It should have an application point of view."
"It would be helpful if the solution offered higher performance, at least on the back end."
"This product should be a lot more user-friendly."
"While there's always room for improvement in everything, I can't really think of a specific feature of the solution that requires immediate attention."
"While the scalability is good, there are certain limitations."
"The initial setup is somewhat complex and should be made simpler to do."
"The lack of reporting would be the main issue."
"There's always room for improvement in the operating code."
"On the controller side, I would like to see NAS capabilities."
"The interface needs to be more user-friendly in that sense that installation and management are still a bit on the high end."
"They could work to make scalability easier."
"This solution would be expensive for small business and it could be priced more competitively for that market."
"On the hardware side, you should have the ability to expand capacity to larger numbers."
"There really isn't any aspect of the solution that needs improvement for the customer other than its price."
"We cannot use this storage for critical applications and data."
"One of the drawbacks of the model we purchased is that it is not running NVMe drives. Even though they say that it is NVMe-ready, it is still on the SSD drives. The model that we purchased has only eight hard drives, and only the ones on the top could work on NVMe. The rest of them are still on the SSD. Its competitors, such as EMC and Pure Storage, are moving or have already moved to NVMe. HPE should improve this solution for NVMe. HPE should also improve IOs in this solution. IOs in HPE are weaker than Hitachi and Pure Storage."
"This is hardware. They have a singular array that you can populate with your own disk, or you can buy the disks through them. For controllers, you pay for the components inside of the SAN, but there is only one chassis that they work with."
"The licensing fees are very reasonable."
"This product is too expensive compared to others, and I don't see any value in using it."
"Pricing depends on varying life cycles."
"Support typically depends on the array. It can range anywhere from $7,000 to a couple of hundred thousand dollars."
"The pricing of Dell EMC Compellent is competitive."
"From what I see, this is competitively-priced and HPE are doing their best to stay competitive."
"The price to capacity ratio is good."
"It is basically in the mid-range of the price. It is not cheaper than Hitachi, but it is cheaper than Pure Storage. There are no additional costs. Everything was taken care of in the price."
"The price of this solution is good for medium-sized and large businesses."
"There is only a one-time license purchase needed and no additional costs. If HP could reduce the training cost, then that would be advantageous to the seller."
"Licensing fees are billed on a yearly basis and the cost of GreenLake service is included."
"I believe HPE Primera and Pure Storage are similar in price."
