We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is stable.""HPE ProLiant DL Servers have good performance and they support different types of applications.""The initial setup for HPE ProLiant DL Servers is easy.""I recommend HP ProLiant. It's a robust and scalable product.""HPE ProLiant DL Servers are easy to maintain. When we need to update the firmware or we need to log on remotely via the IO management interface. It's very convenient, easy. The supply chain is fast when we need to replace some failed hardware, such as hard drives or power supplies. Most of the time, it only takes a few days. The HPE ProLiant DL Servers services are officially certified for Red Hat usage which is a big advantage.""The most valuable feature of the solution is HPE Integrated Lights-Out (iLO)...Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten.""This solution is perfect. From the time of purchase, it was state-of-the-art, and still, after five, 10 years, they still meet our demands extremely well.""The solution is highly scalable."

"We have been able to give the deployment team what they request more quickly. We are able to quickly deploy what is being asked of us. If the development team needs a platform of 20 servers to run a particular platform, we can give that to them within a day or two.""The solution has decreased our deployment time by 10 to 20 percent.""The solution has decreased the deployment time for a new blade, saving us three hours.""It allows for easy management.""Being able to connect my 3PAR arrays to the Synergy platform is the most valuable aspect to me.""We like that the solution can be arranged for an all-in-one single pane of glass, something our customers find important.""Synergy is much easier to use, which is saving us time. We are able to set the profiles for firmware upgrades. This makes the process for the care and feeding of the IT environment much simpler, quicker, and cleaner.""Give us the ability to seamlessly migrate from one operating environment to another within minutes, which is invaluable."

Cons
"ProLiant servers could be more scalable. For example, some models can only contain four hard drives, but many of our customers expect six. If they were to add another extendable hard drive slot, it would be easier to sell the servers to our customers.""They should continue to maintain the stability that is there.""The product must provide time travel features.""They are pretty solid servers, but, just like all servers, they become obsolete after some time. They can maybe provide a console to monitor the health of the servers. There should be some kind of console to which you can log in to remotely check on the health of a server, even when the server is off. The servers that we have are only scalable to some extent. They have got a limited amount of hard drive that you can insert. Their scalability should be improved.""The cost of the solution is high and has room for improvement.""The licensing fees are expensive and have room for improvement.""Its management console could be better.""They should build risc processors with high speed."

"I'd like to see the firmware updates, as well as the built-in OneView and imager in Composer, become a little more powerful and faster.""The initial setup was complex. From what I was told, there were issues initially with getting the SFPs on the floor for our data center and something with the image, but I think that was on our service provider' side. They couldn't get the image to deploy with the right drivers and stuff.""The setup was a bit complex.""Continue the path of integrating OneView into a single product. A lot of different people have different OneView experiences based on which product they have used it for.""We haven't seen any ROI, and it hasn't reduced our cost of operations.""In the Generation 10 modules, we have observed that very often the server has hardware issues.""Gen 11 is being released. That's going to have a lot of advantages over Gen 10 and previous generations in terms of the cooling modules in the servers to keep them cooler and run with more efficiency and better performance. There are more management features with iLO 6 and the latest OneView management.""The initial setup was complex. We had a couple of bright engineers working on it, and they figured out a lot of things that they don't know... The problem was that they couldn't find documentation easily, to walk them through setup when they just didn't know the platform."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "An investment in DL380 is worth it."
  • "If you have to include the warranty, enhance the warranty support."
  • "This is an expensive product and there is licensing required for iLO, which is the HPE monitoring system."
  • "We have ILO licenses. We use this feature."
  • "It is just too expensive."
  • "This product is within our budget."
  • "The price is a little too high; it could be reduced."

  • "The Nutanix platform came in a little more expensive than the Synergy."
  • "The solution has reduced our IT infrastructure costs because we have had to buy less services than we used to."
  • "In our whole environment, the cost is in the millions. On this particular chassis, the annual cost is 12 blades times approximately $40,000."
  • "The biggest cost is the VMware licensing."
  • "We do a biannual renewal. I know how much that renewal is, but I don't know how much it breaks down to be just Synergy, since we have our VMware, all of our physical equipment, etc. all rolled up into one renewal, which is a little over $300,000 every two years. However, only a subset of that is the Synergy product."
  • "There was at least about a 20 percent savings in cost over our purchase based on the purchase price of the compute modules themselves versus what we've had to pay before. It was significantly less."
  • "Synergy has lowered our total cost of ownership significantly. I would say ballpark around 25 percent, maybe more."
  • "We bought everything outright to start with. We don't do much consumption-based stuff."
