We performed a comparison between HPE Nimble Storage dHCI and HPE SimpliVity based on our users’ reviews in four categories. After reading the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Both of these HPE solutions are part of the Hewlett Packard Enterprise brand of excellent data management products. Users say HPE SimpliVity is the more comprehensive product. It is a very user-friendly, simple product to use, implement, and manage. The storage virtualization layers and super fast backups make it extremely valuable. Some users say HPE Nimble Storage dHCI can be a bit buggy and should provide better file-level restoration and DVX system options.
"It has given the company an almost zero possibility of downtime."
"StarWind has provided us with a top-notch, well-supported, robust vSAN offering when other vendors have moved to hyper-converged solutions that are outside of our average clients' reach from a financial and resource perspective."
"I save both physical and virtual space."
"The product's core feature of virtualizing our storage is by far the most valuable."
"It is extremely stable."
"The most valuable features are high availability and real-time replication between two servers."
"The iSCSI protocol is quite simple to configure."
"Immediately we noticed huge performance gains, even on older hardware and once we implemented a 10GB link between both servers, the sync was near-instant after the initial sync was complete."
"The solution is useful for taking storage snapshots, has high performance, and the CASL architecture is good for optimizing workloads."
"We have the ability to increase the storage without any additional costs."
"So far, the solution's performance is very good."
"The nice thing about it is that it truly integrates with the cloud, so I can move my volumes bi-directionally in and out of the cloud."
"Very good in-line compression."
"It is easier to manage compared to the other vendors."
"The latency is very low."
"The technical support services are good."
"The replication from the different centers (the main to the secondary) has been very great. It is good value for us."
"No SAN switches and having a native backup is pretty cool."
"SimpliVity helps us to manage and has made deduplication work really well."
"SimpliVity works well in a UAT environment.."
"The HyperGuarantee is unique and the accelerator card is the primary IP with the product."
"As a point for optimization on our infrastructure, it works great for us."
"We can get backups faster. We have a smaller footprint for hardware, which takes up less space. So, we use less electricity and floor space."
"HPE SimpliVity is a very valuable and effective solution. It's also a scalable solution. As the customer requirements and application requirements increase, it can scale to accommodate them."
"Updates seem to be non-existent."
"It would be good to have a little more access to control certain aspects within the UI."
"While we had little to no issues in setting up StarWind and received excellent support from the StarWind technicians, we would have appreciated a clearer guideline for a setup with the free version of StarWind Management Console or, in other words - for the setup with the PowerShell."
"The cluster configuration is time-consuming and tedious."
"Improvements in documentation and support resources could enhance the user experience."
"I wish the sync after a failure, such as hardware failure or power-related issues, for example, was faster."
"This product would benefit from having automated alerting functionality."
"It is difficult to control all of the hardware components."
"Lacking integration to the cloud."
"This year 2022, we have the possibility to include new kinds of storage with a high disk availability, such as Alletra 6000 and Alletra 9000. Those are the new storage available. If we would like to improve the quality and the capability and the high availability of these products, we can choose between different costs. This is another benefit from this HPE Nimble Storage dHCI solution of hyper-converged."
"The solution could improve by providing better file-level restoration and DVX system options."
"The performance of HPE Nimble Storage dHCI could improve. Other solutions, such as Cisco, are better."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI only works with a hypervisor like VMware. There are plenty of other hypervisors that HP doesn't support. This is an area for improvement."
"The product does not support file services."
"HPE Nimble Storage dHCI currently is promoting only VMware as a hypervisor, whereas if they can look into other OSs, such as KVM or Red Hat, it would be an improvement."
"Nimble Storage's integration with the management software could be better."
"The fact that it is tied to a certain hardware platform would probably be the bigger negative versus just being able to buy something off the shelf."
"There needs to be a simple process for migrating one SimpliVity cluster to a new SimpliVity cluster."
"Product doesn't scale."
"The installation process could be simplified. It's a bit technical for non-IT users."
"When it comes to performing backups, the dashboard is not intuitive and not user-friendly."
"We had one call with technical support which was not completely answered to our satisfaction. We did not receive the right answer."
"The interface is good but takes some time to get used to."
"While SimpliVity was a pioneer of cloud connect capability, they have simply not exploited it."
