We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"There are great templates, so you don't have to customize them if you don't want to. You do have the option to custom create some folders and some reports, however, with what is there, you don't really need to go through extra effort, as they already give you a lot of predefined views of reports and so forth.""Their proxy-based inspection is responsive and secure.""Some of the key features of the solution is that it has good reporting, you can receive many details from the connection, for example, clients and website information.""The simplicity of the configuration and the stability of the product are most valuable. The VPN concentrator is very useful.""The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate are the ease of use and there are several operating systems that can include the hardware capacities. In the newer releases, the resources were more useful because they were included in the operating system.""Fortinet offers the latest versions to cater to the needs of enterprises.""Overall security features and performance routing is good.""There is an easy process for configuring it, and it is straightforward to implement the device from scratch."

"We like the solution’s protocol and its dashboard system.""The initial setup is pretty simple.""This solution works well. Their switches and firewall are good.""It is easy for me to go in and update settings, make changes, or add/remove rules or security.""The tool's most valuable features are routing features and service quality.""The architecture of the OS in Juniper is very good. It's flexibility, scalability, and the technicality is also good.""The most valuable features are application filtering, content filtering, the intrusion prevention system (IPS), and definitely the application firewall.""I'm told the solution is the fastest, and, so far, I do find that to be the case."

"The solution can scale well.""This is a capable appliance and the standard features work well for us."

Cons
"The product does need better support in the cloud environment. It's not exactly cloud-native right now.""The inability to scale the FortiAnalyzer to match our growth necessitates the purchase of new hardware.""The support costs and licensing are sometimes so expensive.""Its price could be better.""Fortinet FortiGate could improve if it had a cloud-managed solution.""Backup can be improved.""FortiLink is the interface on the firewall that allows you to extend switch management across all of your switches in the network. The problem with it is that you can't use multiple interfaces unless you set them up in a lag. Only then you can run them. So, it forces you to use a core type of switch to propagate that management out to the rest of the switches, and then it is running the case at 200. It leaves you with 18 ports on the firewall because it is also a layer-three router that could also be used as a switch, but as soon as you do that, you can't really use them. They could do a little bit more clean up in the way the stacking interface works. Some use cases and the documentation on the FortiLink checking interface are a little outdated. I can find stuff on version 5 or more, but it is hard to find information on some of the newer firmware. The biggest thing I would like to see is some improvement in the switch management feature. I would like to be able to relegate some of the ports, which are on the firewall itself, to act as a switch to take advantage of those ports. Some of these firewalls have clarity ports on them. If I can use those, it would mean that I need to buy two less switches, which saves time. I get why they don't, but I would still like to see it because it would save a little bit of space in the server rack.""A sandbox would be good in order to be able to inspect the emails containing spam and be able to validate the emails that contain malware, prior to delivering to the customer."

More Fortinet FortiGate Cons →

"In the next release, I would like to see improvements made to the GUI because it isn't very good.""They really need to improve the GUI.""The tool's basic license does not cover everything. It needs to improve visibility and availability.""The security feature must be improved.""Right now, we are going through issues and problems where the product gets dropped with the connection or during the authentication initial phase. While it could be our problem, we would like to see more stability in this area.""The solution can be improved by allowing automatic updates for the OS devices.""We have some weird errors and some weird behavior on the solution occasionally. The device gets buggy without anyone touching it. It would work and then suddenly stop. Sometimes you need to just move the cards out and restart it again, and it will work. The solution itself, the hardware and the software, there must be some bugs that need to be dealt with.""The reporting can be improved."

More Juniper vSRX Cons →

"Although manageable, the user interface is a little bit slow and could be improved.""Sometimes it reboots when you least expect it, and that's the main issue."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Fortinet has one or two license types, and the VPN numbers are only limited by the hardware chassis make."
