We performed a comparison between HPE Primera and VIOLIN QV2020 based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Dell Technologies, NetApp, Pure Storage and others in All-Flash Storage."We like the speed. It's very low latency. In virtualization, you can mask lots of problems, and even in code you can mask lots of problems, with low latency. It's just pure speed and low latency."
"The most valuable features are the replication of data and the continuous snapshot that we can take from the disc."
"The code upgrades are very smooth."
"It is easy to deploy and it's all-flash, so it's very fast."
"The predictive performance analytics is a very good feature, as our system is performing better than before."
"This solution is very scalable."
"The performance and the ever-growing maintenance are the most valuable features of this solution."
"The GUI is very easy to use and intuitive."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"The interface is simplified."
"All of the capabilities of the hardware such as replication, snapshot, and the specific features are all included from the start as opposed to being on another license."
"The high availability was most valuable because they come with what's called 100% data availability. With special terms, they license and guarantee 100% data availability. That was probably one of the key features or components that HPE was offering with that model."
"It serves as the primary storage in my production environment."
"It is a stable solution...It is a scalable solution."
"Our customers have given very positive feedback about InfoSign, which is the management software for this solution."
"The features that I have found most valuable are the artificial intelligence for the storage inside of the software and firmware because customers do not like functionalities which require manual interruption."
"VIOLIN QV2020 is the latest in terms of performance. It has high-speed data access and processing capabilities, distinguishing it as a leader in its storage solutions category."
"It’s simple to use hardware to fix performance issues. Our issue is poor coding/queries. This greatly speeded things up. It’s too costly to track down poor programming in applications. The price of a developer’s time to scan through all the coding is high compared to buying Violin."
"We understand that they're thinking about it, but one of the things that would be nice is if they added some basic file-level capabilities to the platform. The idea is that they would run a basic NFS or CIF share from the controllers. FlashBlade is the powerhouse for File and Object storage, but if you don't need all that power, a lightweight file function would make FlashArrays more versatile."
"One thing I'd like to see in a future release is integration between their main storage array and what they call their FlashBlade product; to be able to snapshot directly from the primary array into multiple different backup copies on FlashBlade."
"We haven't seen ROI yet."
"It's too early to tell if we've seen a reduction in total cost of ownership. The solution is expensive."
"CIFS and SMB Shares cannot be mounted directly."
"The initial setup was a little complex. We had some initial issues with the design and had to help correct some of the white papers for it, but it wasn't your standard use case."
"The initial setup of the product is complex."
"It needs to improve its price."
"This solution would be expensive for small business and it could be priced more competitively for that market."
"HPE Primera's deduplication area is not as good as the one offered by Dell PowerStore, making it an area where improvements are required."
"On the controller side, I would like to see NAS capabilities."
"One of the drawbacks of the model we purchased is that it is not running NVMe drives. Even though they say that it is NVMe-ready, it is still on the SSD drives. The model that we purchased has only eight hard drives, and only the ones on the top could work on NVMe. The rest of them are still on the SSD. Its competitors, such as EMC and Pure Storage, are moving or have already moved to NVMe. HPE should improve this solution for NVMe. HPE should also improve IOs in this solution. IOs in HPE are weaker than Hitachi and Pure Storage."
"Only HPE can manage the product."
"The solution could improve by having seamless migration from other storage systems. The process should be made easier."
"The IOPS and throughput could be better. That's the only drawback compared to other vendors."
"HPE Primera is not good enough as a storage solution as it does not provide a good NAS storage."
"I set up Wi-Fi for storage, and since then, we haven't experienced any interruptions in service."
"VIMM replacement is poorly designed. You have to slide out an entire drawer, remove the cover and then pop out the failed VIMM. I would like to see a front replacement just like with hard disks. This leaves room for error; for example, when you slide it out from the rack, you are moving cables along the cable management arm. This leaves the possibility of accidentally unplugging a cable from the array if it is not seated properly. Also, you might pinch the cables when sliding it back into the server rack."
