We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It is very stable. I have been using vCenter Orchestrator from version three now to six plus.""It's 100% stable, it's always stable. We haven't had any bugs. The solution works very well and we haven't had any problems.""The hardware abstraction layer, being able to make the VMs portable when moving to a different platform or over a WAN.""We can manage and relocate resources easily.""User-friendly and easy to deploy.""I like the tool's DNS feature.""It has the best workflow feature.""The solution is stable."

"We are not constantly having to babysit or troubleshoot it. It does what it is designed to do, and it does a very good job of it.""The most valuable feature is the insight into how our infrastructure is actually working and the kind of performance that when users either say there is an issue, it gives some insight into finding out what's going wrong with it. I think its cause we have it mainly based on our production units.""It is easy to use from its deployment architecture to use cases. It is straightforward for customers to use. It's a good product and better than the earlier versions.""We like that we are able to combine all infrastructure monitoring using this solution, meaning we receive analytics from across our whole network.""This solution is most definitely scalable. We've already gone back to the drawing board and specifically designed it from the ground up, to be scalable with the size of our environment moving forward.""I've found vROps' predictive actions, monitoring, reporting, and provisioning features to be useful.""What we do, as a whole for our group... is storage virtualization and the compute side. This product brings all those pieces into one interface and now we can actually correlate data between them.""It provides my team the awareness to see what's going on with the nodes and the clusters. It will then either rebalance them or allow the automation to rebalance them for us."

Cons
"This solution needs to have more built-in workflows.""It could be integrated with third-party hypervisors.""The product lacks GUIs. The tool should have more GUIs available, along with easier product documentation.""There are no good manuals or guidelines on integrations. Hence, you need to be asking someone.""The custom workflows are very difficult and confusing.""Its technical support team takes a long time to escalate the issues.""Many times, customers' licenses are not used because the client is not aware of the features and the product benefits. When somebody is buying a product, they just do a default configuration.""Using this solution requires a lot of experience."

More vCenter Orchestrator Cons →

"It's a little bit scattered. I have to go through a lot of steps to get everything in one place. I would like it that if you click on one cluster, you get all the information from the host, VMs, whatever is there. Sometimes I have to go to different places to get the information.""It wasn't exactly proactive. It was supposed to, but there were a lot of delays. It could also be because of our infrastructure and the way our network was set up. If vROps could be more proactive, that would be nice. It is nice to have the information beforehand, but when there is downtime, it takes a lot of time for us to be able to see an issue in real-time, which becomes a bit challenging. If there is a way to improve the data collection for the whole vCenter that would be nice because data collection takes a lot of time.""If it could help with calculating on-prem costs, based on their experience, it would help customers determine whether to remain on-prem or move to the cloud.""I would like more application dashboards to be available.""I would like to see them add a little bit more functionality and the ability to create more dashboards.""The solution could improve by having more APIs, customized alerts, and documentation.""They should improve the vROps Federation Management Pack, so each customer can create a single pane of glass for multiple sites of vROps.""It would be nice if it could tell me more about my hardware, if there were any updates on the network that should be deployed, if some firmware needs to be deployed on the server, etc."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Our licensing is on a yearly basis. We pay for the license and then we pay the support every year."
  • "This solution is expensive and the licensing is more attractive for Haveri."
  • "The price is reasonable, and one of the reasons that this product was selected."
  • "We provide the VMware solution to our clients, for which they pay a perpetual license."
  • "The concept of hyper-convergence is smart. I don't know if it can be applied with less cost to be more affordable for small or medium-sized companies. The cost is a very important factor for it. We are currently depending on SAN storage. However, the hyper-converged solutions are depending on the storage within the hosts, such as vSAN in the VMware. It is a smart solution."
  • "We pay a yearly fee, based on our entries."
  • "The licensing module is somewhat complex. Calculating the cost is complicated. Many of our clients are unclear about the billing system and the traffic metering."
  • "The licensing cost is manageable because they have different versions available, standard, essential, and advanced."

  • "Don't overallocate! This means that you don't have to buy many hosts. You can save money that way."
  • "The pricing: It's expensive."
  • "Pricing is good for us. We're non-profit so we get a break on that."
  • "I would like to see a free offering. Cost is always a factor in any sort of line. Obviously, the value added is there and it's worth it."
  • "We have seen ROI in performance. It used to be our company was giving out eight CPUs to all servers. That was bad performance-wise. People were seeing slow compute times for their applications."
  • "Pricing could always be cheaper, but it's acceptable."
  • "vRealize Operations has proved to be a cost effective solution for our big environment."
  • "As we continue to implement it across multiple environments, it reduces costs as well."
