Makes it easier to maintain the environment with standardization
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature is standardization because we have a small group of IT resources that need to do the operational tasks."
    • "The way we can manage the environment through the solution's GUI could be improved."

What is our primary use case?

We use Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers mainly for virtualization and as hypervisors.

How has it helped my organization?

We are currently converting from VMware to Hyper-V and trying to use Dell's Azure Stack HCI solution to converge the storage instead of using separate storage devices. We have one environment for network storage and computing, which gives us more flexibility and standardization in the solutions.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are reliable with no serious issues. Now, standardization makes things easier in exchanging components and knowledge.

    What is most valuable?

We have a lot of branches. The most valuable feature is standardization because we have a small group of IT resources that need to do the operational tasks. As long as we have standardization everywhere, it's easier to maintain the environment.

    What needs improvement?

The way we can manage the environment through the solution's GUI could be improved. You need different management tools at the moment for doing different things, and it would be helpful if there were one global tool you could use to monitor and manage updates.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for a couple of months.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We never faced any stability issues with the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers is a scalable solution.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We previously used HPE Compaq and IBM. We were taken over by another company that was already using Dell, and IBM was quitting with those devices because Lenovo took it over. That's why we switched to the new standard Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers.

    How was the initial setup?

The solution's deployment is pretty good, and we used ProDeploy from Dell. We gained a lot of information during the deployment, and it's also been a learning curve for us. It's very helpful that knowledgeable people are doing the ProDeploy so you can also learn about the implementation.

    What about the implementation team?

We deployed Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers in two weeks.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution’s pricing is competitive with other products.

What other advice do I have?

The solution's security by itself is pretty good. The hardening of the server itself is good enough at the moment. We have automation for updates and upgrades that ensure things are tested before they are published instead of running into issues while you do the upgrades.

Our old computers use power supplies of 800 Watts. The new ones were offered twice, 24,00 Watts, which was quite the difference. I'm not saying they are using it, but the fact that they were delivered with 24,00 Watts was shocking because then you think you require more capacity in the data centers, and that isn't the case. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers should improve their power consumption.

We don't currently have very high computing power, so it's standard business applications. When I implement it with Azure Stack HCI, we can hopefully improve the IOPS, using the cluster storage instead of a SAN or a NAS solution.

We discussed technology within Dell during the design phase, which was pretty good. They help us a lot with the sizing of the systems.

Overall, I rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers an eight out of ten.

Compact storage solution that can be customized to suit any environment
    Pros and Cons
    • "iDRAC is the most valuable feature because of the ease of use and management and everything that it provides is super useful. The security features that PowerEdge provides, including firmware threat detection is good."
    • "The quality of support for this solution varies. Sometimes you get agents who are amazing and other times you get agents who take a long time to resolve your query."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution for general computing and for ESX hosts for our virtual environment.

How has it helped my organization?

We are a partner who sells PowerEdge to many different customers, and we also use it in our own environment. The solution can be customized based on a customer's needs and allows us to build whatever we need in our own environment at that particular moment.

The system management capabilities of PowerEdge helped increase stack productivity. The solution's accelerated GPUs helped support demanding workloads for some of our customer's environments. PowerEdge helped to reduce data processing time in our company which has made us work faster.

    What is most valuable?

iDRAC is the most valuable feature because of the ease of use and management, and everything that it provides is super useful. The security features that PowerEdge provides, including firmware threat detection is good.

We do not currently use this solution's CloudIQ functionality for predictive analytics but we would like to use it in the future.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have used this solution for five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    This is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This solution is scalable. The way this solution is able to scale is impressive. Depending on how you build your PowerEdge server, it can serve the lowest end of customers up to the highest, depending on what their needs are. Whatever a customer is trying to accomplish, can usually be customized for their environment.

How are customer service and support?

The quality of support for this solution varies. Sometimes you get agents who are amazing and other times you get agents who take a long time to resolve your query. I would rate support for this solution a six and a half out of ten.

    How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward. Deployment took one to two hours.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

A stable and scalable solution with good virtualization and distributed power management features
    Pros and Cons
    • "Virtualization and distributed power management are good and valuable features."
    • "It would be easier if the remote connection to the server could be done through the USB port. From the server, we should be able to connect to a laptop or a management workstation through a USB port."

What is our primary use case?

We use it for main servers, database servers, and application servers.

    What is most valuable?

Virtualization and distributed power management are good and valuable features.

    What needs improvement?

It would be easier if the remote connection to the server could be done through the USB port. From the server, we should be able to connect to a laptop or a management workstation through a USB port.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell EMC PowerEdge Rack Servers for around ten years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    It is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is scalable. I have extended it using virtualization technologies. We have 5 servers and around 1000 users.

How are customer service and technical support?

I am satisfied with their technical support.

    How was the initial setup?

I had a little bit of difficulty in the beginning when we used provisioning with automated tasks almost ten years ago, but after that, it was very straightforward.

    What about the implementation team?

Dell had authorized a vendor in my country. I took some advice and assistance from them. They were okay.

For its maintenance, some tasks are handled by our administrator internally and some tasks are handled by the vendor.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Dell's solution was cheaper than HP's solution.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I also use similar solutions from HP. Based on my usage, I have found them quite similar. They are at the same level.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution to others, but they have to see their overall system, that is, the interfaces, fabric, reports, network path, etc. They have to see the compatibility metrics between different parts. I had some difficulties in the beginning when I was supposed to change to the right certified device.

I would rate Dell EMC PowerEdge Rack Servers a ten out of ten.

    What is most valuable?

    The solution is reliable.

    What needs improvement?

The time it takes the machine to boot up, when I turn it off and on, could be quicker.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Dell rack servers since about 1995.

How are customer service and support?

Support is very good if we need it. If we have any problem with the equipment, the Dell team works with us to fix everything. My experience has been that they want to solve all the problems, even if doing so takes time. They are on it until it's fixed.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We have only used Dell. We are comfortable working with Dell, the price is fine, and the Dell people are very cooperative.

    How was the initial setup?

Deployment is simple. Within one hour the server is up and working.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

    The pricing is fair enough.

Stable with an easy implementation process and very user-friendly
    Pros and Cons
    • "It's a very user-friendly solution."
    • "The performance could be a bit better."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for its performance.

    What is most valuable?

Dell offers very good performance. The hardware is very, very good.

The product has very good diagnostics.

    It's a very user-friendly solution.

At the rack level, we can access and can see the status. When deploying you can see if there are any issues with the system.

In terms of maintenance, it's easy.

The hard drive is just plug and play. You just unplug the old one and put in the new hard drive. It's very, very straightforward.

    What needs improvement?

The performance could be a bit better.

If they want to coordinate between the different fast CPUs with the memory or maybe if they put some polling systems that are a bit better it could possibly increase the performance of the servers.

It would be great if the product had some wireless capabilities.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using the solution for two years at this point. It hasn't been a very long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

THe solution is very, very stable. It's one of its greatest features. The solution doesn't crash or freeze. It doesn't have bugs or glitches. It's worked well for us.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We do plan to increase usage in the future. We'll continue to stick with them as we never have issues with the solution and you can scale it.

We have about 50 users on the solution, although they aren't direct users.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is good. We have set up three years of support for this solution. We always get a fast response. We can also write the ticket on the widget via a support program and the team will reach out to us directly in order to assist. We've been quite satisfied with their level of service so far.

    How was the initial setup?

We didn't find the implementation to be complex. The initial setup was fairly straightforward. It was easy for us to handle. We were able to do everything ourselves in-house.

The deployment takes about an hour. To install just the racks only takes five minutes.

    What about the implementation team?

I handled the installation myself. I didn't need any help from any consultants or integrators.

What other advice do I have?

We're a partner as a buyer of the solution.

We're using the latest version of the solution.

Overall, I would rate the solution nine out of ten. We've never had any issues with Dell servers. They're good. They're very stable. I'd recommend the solution to other organizations.
