Powerful And Reliable With Good Warranties
Pros and Cons
  • "It has helped us reduce unplanned downtime by 20% to 30%."
  • "The response time could be better."

What is our primary use case?

We buy the servers without an OS and use Linux and open-source options with it. As we are a web hosting company, these servers primarily serve our customers by hosting their Websites, VPS, Emails, Domains, and other services. We also use them for our own infrastructure and our products.

What is most valuable?

We're a global web hosting company with data centers throughout the world, so we need lots of powerful, reliable, and efficient servers. That’s what Dell PowerEdge servers are. We've been using them for many years and trust the product.

It has good quality control, and some of my colleagues were able to see this first-hand during a visit to the Dell factory.

We received good demo equipment that helped us pick the best solutions for our business. Plus, we can choose optimal setups and configurations that best fit the needs of our web, cloud, and virtual private server hosting clients.

The servers always arrive with the latest firmware and are very good at handling high-performance workloads. They meet our ever-growing needs, including those associated with AI.

The pricing is very flexible, and the commitment to delivery and working with partners is excellent.

Dell offers us good warranties and is very good at delivering on them when necessary.

In terms of energy consumption, PowerEdge servers are okay. We do find Dell servers to be more efficient than others; however, it depends on the CPU usage and workload. Our newest processors are more power-efficient, and NVMe SSD disc drives help save even more energy. User-friendly OpenManage console helps us efficiently manage the lifecycle of PowerEdge servers. However, we are not using it at full scale.

The servers are easy to set up, and we use a variety of server security features in our current environment. An important advantage is that we can make OS patches and hotfixes without a reboot.

What needs improvement?

We are quite satisfied with our latest configurations. We don't have big complaints at the moment.

The response time could be better. Everyone is very busy nowadays. It's important to get issues resolved fast.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for around three and four years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is very good. I'd rate stability nine out of ten.

Dell PowerEdge servers improved our IT infrastructure. We have fewer failures and good warranties, and by keeping everything up to date and patched, we reduced unplanned downtime by 20% to 30%. We've also noticed that these servers are 20% more powerful than similar configurations.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

As the fastest-growing web hosting company with over 2.5 million clients worldwide, scalability is crucial for us. Dell server scalability is good. If we need more capacity, we just buy more servers. The most recent example is our purchase of 800 Dell servers.

How are customer service and support?

Dell offers helpful technical support, including help and guidance when we have new server configurations.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've been on the market for 20 years and tested a lot of the competition. We've used at least three different vendors before Dell.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is straightforward.

First, we need to ship our servers to a remote location. However, for racking and installing operating systems, et cetera, it takes about one hour.

What was our ROI?

The ROI is good. I can’t give the exact numbers, but in terms of outcomes, it is profitable.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

While pricing is very important, it's not all about the cost. With Dell, we have fewer issues, and updating processes are faster—which makes it worth the cost.

Overall, the solution is fairly priced and cost-effective. The overall pricing is moderate.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We have considered a public cloud server before choosing Dell.

What other advice do I have?

We are Dell partners and customers.

I'd advise potential users to try Dell. I would recommend the solution.

I'd rate the solution ten out of ten. I'm quite satisfied with how everything is going. We do not have any complaints.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

On-premises

Extraordinary accessibility, cost-effective, and perfect support
Pros and Cons
  • "The user interface is very simple, and the support team is always happy to answer any questions we have. They are very easy to contact."
  • "The price is very high."

What is our primary use case?

We are using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for the data storage of applications.

Before implementing Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers, we had many servers. Thanks to the implementation of these servers, we now have all the servers concentrated in one solution.

How has it helped my organization?

We had multiple solutions that did the same job, and thanks to this solution, I now only have to use one solution. It not only improves our space; it is also much less expensive for our company.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers have the PowerEdge Cyber Resilient Architecture approach to security. It is the most important thing for our company. It is not an option for us to continue working without this execution modality.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very sustainable in terms of energy consumption. If I have many applications and solutions, the consumption will be high, but if I work with only one, the consumption level will be better.

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are good for handling the evolving needs of high-performance workloads. All the data I work with is very heavy. We use PowerEdge servers because they can handle the data without any problem. This is very reassuring.

For us, the issue of electricity pollution is very important. This system is perfect for us in terms of sustainability.

Using PowerEdge Rack Servers has not much affected the overall flexibility of our operations or business. For us, it has always been very important to have a fast response time to keep our customers satisfied, even before we implemented the servers. That is why it has not impacted our flexibility much.

What is most valuable?

The user interface is very simple, and the support team is always happy to answer any questions we have. They are very easy to contact.

Whenever I have worked with Dell, I have felt a lot of simplification.

What needs improvement?

The price is very high.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for two years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

At the moment, I do not know. Next year, we are planning to invest more in these servers, and I guess this is a good sign about its scalability.

How are customer service and support?

Their support is perfect. There are never problems communicating with them. If you have any questions, you can contact them very quickly.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We were using another solution previously.

How was the initial setup?

I was not involved in its implementation. It was my team that was involved. What I know is that it was very easy to implement.

In terms of implementation strategy, we spoke with Dell and our specialists, and everything was very easy.

We have a hybrid cloud. We use Microsoft as the cloud provider. Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers are currently being used only in our department.

What was our ROI?

The biggest ROI is time in terms of the time it takes you to access each application and upload data. It would be difficult if there were different solutions.

Its accessibility is extraordinary.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

They are a little expensive, but in the end, with everything they provide you, the solution is perfect.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other solutions.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers an eight out of ten.

Accesibilidad extraordinaria, rentabilidad y soporte perfecto

Siempre que he trabajado con Dell, he sentido mucha simplificación.

Resilience has helped to reduce unplanned production downtime
Pros and Cons
  • "The iDRAC for remote access is the most useful feature because it's built into the machine. I can reboot them without having to be there physically. We do a lot of what we do remotely, and it handles that fine."
  • "Perhaps they could make it more power efficient. They're pretty good, but there's always room for improvement. Also, they could try to reduce heat generation."

What is our primary use case?

We use them for general Windows deployments for domain controllers, file print servers, and database servers.

How has it helped my organization?

PowerEdge Rack Servers have helped to reduce unplanned production downtime. They have been resilient.

What is most valuable?

The iDRAC for remote access is the most useful feature because it's built into the machine. I can reboot them without having to be there physically. We do a lot of what we do remotely, and it handles that fine.

Also, the signed firmware, drift detection, and BIOS recovery are useful features in the current security climate. Physically, they're reasonably secure, with locking mechanisms on the physical hardware, and the update processes for firmware fall within the parameters we require for our security.

The OpenManage console for lifecycle management provides an intuitive user experience. The interface is easy to understand. In terms of our IT staff's productivity, it makes things quicker. It's a lot quicker to access OpenManage remotely than actually having to go and look at the server. It depends on where the server is and where most of our staff are. It could save five minutes or it could save two hours. It has also decreased the time it takes to deploy new data centers.

What needs improvement?

Perhaps they could make it more power efficient. They're pretty good, but there's always room for improvement.

Also, they could try to reduce heat generation.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Dell PowerEdge Servers for about 20 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

They're pretty reliable, so we don't have to replace them that often; we just have to maintain them.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've not had to scale them up from what we've deployed, generally.

But when it comes to handling the evolving needs of high-performance workloads, they seem to be keeping up to date and providing the latest hardware to keep up with the requirements.

How are customer service and support?

Dell's technical support is generally pretty good.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Neutral

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used HPE previously. We switched to Dell PowerEdge because they were more cost-effective.

What was our ROI?

The servers that we've deployed have all been in place for long enough to give us a full return on their value.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is usually in line with what we expect from Microsoft.

What other advice do I have?

To protect our systems from malware and other firmware attacks we use third-party tools.

Has helpful monitoring and has a lot of flexibility for scaling
Pros and Cons
  • "The monitoring system is really helpful. I'm a one-man team, and I run systems and IT for a pretty big company. The ease of use of being able to flip through a browser tab was the most valuable feature for me."
  • "The servers get slower at the end of their life cycle. The technology needs to evolve."

How has it helped my organization?

We used PowerEdge as our main servers for all things virtual and as our file servers as well. We had a lot of VPN users as most of the company is remote. There wasn't as much lag time when dealing with file transfer, specifically in the office. Using the PowerEdge Servers and the Dell switch stack interchangeably skyrocketed the firm in the office.

What is most valuable?

The monitoring system is really helpful. I'm a one-man team, and I run systems and IT for a pretty big company. The ease of use of being able to flip through a browser tab was the most valuable feature for me.

As for handling the evolving needs of high-performance workloads, PowerEdge has a lot more flexibility for scaling. It has everything that you would want for a business that's growing.

In terms of PowerEdge's approach to security with its firmware and drift detection, there have been no issues with any updates or security breaches.

The company had to move to a new building, and one of the main concerns was energy consumption. As far as I know, there were a lot of eco settings present to make sure that the PowerEdge Rack Servers used the proper amount of energy.

I've had zero downtime in the three and a half years I've been in the company. Prior to my time, I do know that the uptimes of the systems were very long. From all the records and logs of the previous IT administrator, I can see that there were no issues with the servers.

What needs improvement?

The servers get slower at the end of their life cycle. The technology needs to evolve.

Also, when you have separate servers and have to add connections between them, they slow down.

For how long have I used the solution?

I used this solution for about a year and a half since I joined the company. The company was using it at least since 2015.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There hasn't been a whole lot of downtime and zero issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

There's expandability, and you can scale with PowerEdge Rack Servers.

About 80% to 85% of our workforce is remote, and they all use laptops. About half of that comes back to the server through a VPN. There are only about 60 people in the office using the solution on-premises.

How are customer service and support?

I've had no issues with technical support, and they've been very quick and responsive. I've had to call them, maybe three times in the last three years. I would give them a ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Positive

How was the initial setup?

PowerEdge Rack Servers are pretty standard servers. You put them on the rack, you plug them in, and you set up the settings.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We weren't paying very much, but it was at the end of the lifecycle. We're now using the VxRail hyper-converged infrastructure, and the pricing was very similar for the same amount of power but with easier automation.

What other advice do I have?

Make sure that it fits your company now and your company in the future because if you don't build for scalability, you will get caught by a foot and have to buy more stuff.

I would recommend PowerEdge Rack servers to smaller organizations and not to larger ones like ours.

On a scale from one to ten, I would rate PowerEdge Rack servers at nine.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

We've used them for many years to host clusters and run high demand applications
Pros and Cons
    • "PowerEdge is able to run the latest high-demand applications for our use case. They host our clusters and facilitate the building of environments."
    • "We have experienced some challenges with iDRAC when upgrading firmware."

What is our primary use case?

We use this solution as a host for clusters. We use 750, 740s, and 730s.

How has it helped my organization?

PowerEdge is able to run the latest high-demand applications for our use case. They host our clusters and facilitate the building of environments.

We also like the iDRAC feature for monitoring system data and providing analytics. The newer iDRAC is a lot better than the older versions.

    What is most valuable?

The management features of this solution have been most useful.

    What needs improvement?

We have experienced some challenges with iDRAC when upgrading firmware.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for a couple of decades.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the support for this solution a seven out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Neutral

    How was the initial setup?

    The initial setup was straightforward.

    What about the implementation team?

Implementation was done as a combination of the vendor and our internal reps.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate this solution a nine out of ten.

    What is most valuable?

The product is well-rounded and has been effective in meeting our needs. The customer feedback has been positive as well.

    What needs improvement?

For the next release, I would like for PowerEdge Rack Servers to be a bit more compact.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for 12 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The overall stability is excellent. There is almost no downtime, and the system runs smoothly. PowerEdge servers have significantly minimized production downtime for me. They run smoothly without causing any hassles, allowing me to focus on administration. Updates are infrequent, and the system operates seamlessly in the background, requiring minimal attention.

How are customer service and support?

I would rate the support as a ten out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

    What was our ROI?

Quick customer support, especially with gold support, has been key for maximizing return on investment. In a hard disk issue, they fixed it within three hours.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

In terms of pricing and licensing, it is a trade-off. If you find it expensive, you can limit access, but if the budget allows, you can expand.

What other advice do I have?

Overall, I would rate Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers as a ten out of ten.

    Was muss verbessert werden?

Great performance, reduces unplanned production downtime, and handles high-performance workloads
    Pros and Cons
    • "It's allowing us to scale out a lot faster than before."
    • "In terms of the iDRAC software, when selecting systems, especially multiple systems to upgrade, there's really no way to confirm that specific systems are selected."

How has it helped my organization?

We're having increased performance. That's one of the big reasons we went with these PowerEdge servers.

    What is most valuable?

The iDRAC that comes with the systems is great. It allows us to scale out a lot faster than before.

PowerEdge servers are good for handling and evolving high-performance workloads. We get everything that we need.

The biggest needs within our company are performance, stability, and support. If and when something goes wrong hardware-wise, a quick resolution is always a wonderful thing to have.

We do not use Dell's memory in our PowerEdge environment. We do use them separately.

PowerEdge Rack Servers have helped to reduce unplanned production downtime. The firmware updates that have been pushed out have reduced the amount of DIMM memory failures or false alarms. That's been really good. That's the main concern we have.

    What needs improvement?

In terms of the iDRAC software, when selecting systems, especially multiple systems to upgrade, there's really no way to confirm specific systems that are selected. It'll just tell you a number and it's very vague. It says, "Hey, you're about to perform this action on X amount of systems." If it had more visibility, then that would provide more peace of mind for our team and everyone else who uses the iDRAC software as well.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been using these PowerEdge rack servers for about two years now.

How are customer service and support?

    The technical support is good.

Whenever we ask for clarification on an action plan, we get the required feedback so that we can make informed decisions on our end. We'd love it if they'd keep up with the process that they currently have.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We switched over to Dell as they were highly competitive in their pricing, and their specs were either identical or gave better performance than some of the other options we were looking at.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing was extremely competitive, and it's one of the big reasons why we went with Dell.

We use the servers on multiple of our data centers located throughout the United States, and the performance and stability of these systems have been phenomenal.

What other advice do I have?

We did not consider public cloud services before choosing PowerEdge DRAC services.

Performance-wise, hardware-wise, it is solid, however, it could use some improvements around iDRAC. Therefore, I would rate the solution eight out of ten.

For those considering the solution, I would advise starting by doing some research. The system is incredibly stable and performs similarly to other systems that we're reviewing.

Good performance, secure, easy to use, and the technical support is good
    Pros and Cons
    • "The most valuable feature is reliability. We rarely have any issues and because of this, Dell is our go-to for servers."
    • "I'd like to take the complexities out of all the different tools that surround it, like OpenManage."

What is our primary use case?

We use the servers for various use cases. A lot of our servers act as ESXi hosts that host our VMware infrastructure. We also have a lot of researchers that use them for their own computing, memory, and storage as well.

How has it helped my organization?

When it comes to running high-demand applications, we trust our Dell servers exclusively. Its overall stability and ease of use have helped to improve the way our organization functions.

I believe that our overall data processing time has been reduced, although it's hard for us to quantify that.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is reliability. We rarely have any issues and because of this, Dell is our go-to for servers.

We make use of the encrypt-at-rest security feature, which allows us to keep our servers locked down in our data centers as best we can.

We used the CloudIQ feature for monitoring and it's pretty good overall. We have a challenge in our area because our IT is very broad and there is a lot of overlap. Other people's work is visible and we have a big environment, so there is a team of people that keep an eye on things.

    What needs improvement?

I'd like to take the complexities out of all the different tools that surround it, like OpenManage. There's some different licensing and it gets a little wonky at times. Other than that, the product itself works fine. Rather, it's some of the management issues.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Dell PowerEdge Rack Servers for approximately 15 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

This is a pretty reliable product.

How are customer service and support?

Dell's support is fantastic. We've never really had any problems with them.

I would rate them an eight out of ten.

How would you rate customer service and support?

    Positive

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We did not use another similar solution prior to this one.

We are looking for some of the newer models to replace some of our older equipment. We may not have to have as many as before, because it's more efficient.

    How was the initial setup?

Once we get a server, we can have it up in a day. One person can do it unless it's a heavy server. In that case, we need two people to lift it. Almost anybody on our staff can deploy this server if it's needed.

    What about the implementation team?

    We handle the deployment in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

When you compare this product to using a public cloud, you definitely have to pay attention to what you're doing in a public cloud. This is because you're generally using a shared server with other people and there can be problems because of this.

What other advice do I have?

We are currently working towards full automation when it comes to managing PowerEdge. It looks pretty good at this stage. It most definitely assists with the overall operations.

My advice for anybody who is considering this product is that Dell is a reliable partner. The product works well and you can't really go wrong with it. As the product changes over time, it's pretty seamless and you don't have to learn a lot of new things. After four years, it may only be slightly different.

I would rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

    On-premises
