It's a very good tool for typical data analytics and reporting, data management. It's very easy to use once you learn. The coding is super easy. If you know SQL, you can start using SAS immediately. SAS E-Miner also a great tool for predictive analytics.

Example codes:

Libname mylib “A:\data”;

Data tempdata;

Set mylib.mydata; /* reading data set from the library mylib*/

Or 

Proc SQL:

Create table temp as 

Select * from mylib.mydata;

quit;

I like that it is quickly embedding interactive reports and dashboards into a website, Outlook Mail, or even a mobile app. It was very important to democratize results amongst everybody in the company.

SAS is a third-party software, therefore it absolutely has to "play nice" with other software platforms. It is able to connect to all major platforms, and all the smaller platforms that I have come across. 

It has also been around for an extremely long time, has a strong history, and good market penetration.
