No.

The capacity planning helps us see down the road, but we lacked documentation at deployment which affected usage

What is most valuable?

The capacity planning: Purchasing hardware takes a long time for us. This way you can get where you're actually going to be at six months down the road.

How has it helped my organization?

We are on an older version. It hasn't improved any mission critical systems.

What needs improvement?

Lack of documentation.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

I wish the documentation was better for the solution. When we first deployed it, there were very few resources online. That's why we don't use it that much.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's fine. It's stable.

How are customer service and technical support?

We have a contact, but we have never used him/her.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We weren't using a different solution.

How was the initial setup?

It was easy to set up.

What other advice do I have?

Use the community. I find it helpful.

I would tell others to avoid version 6.0.2 and go for 6.6. It seems a lot nicer.

Most important criteria when selecting a vendor: reputation.

Easy to use interface when you login, but installation was not straightforward

What is most valuable?

The blueprint catalog. It's easy to use the interface when you login.

How has it helped my organization?

For doing automation.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see the UI improved.

For the next release, I would like to see:

  • Easier setup
  • Easy installation
  • Easier configuration.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The stability is good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability is good.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We had a central cloud platform and also the old vCenter cloud.

We moved to vROps because of the technology trend. Everybody was going to private cloud and public cloud. We wanted to have a private cloud and public cloud that we could hook with a public cloud.

How was the initial setup?

I was involved in the initial setup. It wasn't straightforward. They need to make it more user-friendly.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Citrix.

What other advice do I have?

Most important criteria when selecting a vendor: initial cost.

Helps us determine how to scale properly, though automated reporting would be a good enhancement

What is most valuable?

Because we are implementing Workspace ONE and Identity Manager, it helps us figure out that process. To scale properly, we need to get proper measurements to know how much storage we need and how much processing we need from a retail perspective.

What needs improvement?

Better reporting functionality would help plus an automated reporting functionality, because we don't sit with the product all the time.

For how long have I used the solution?

It's very new to us.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability works fine.

How is customer service and technical support?

I have not used technical support.

How was the initial setup?

It wasn't very good.

What other advice do I have?

Important considerations: Support would probably be number one, then how much pertinent information is provided.

I also think it's important working with a partner. We didn't initially, but we did get involved with a partner that helped us to understand the products better.

I can drill down and figure out exactly where CPU and memory contention might be.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the ability to drill down and figure out exactly where CPU and memory contention could possibly be.

How has it helped my organization?

It helps with troubleshooting and figuring out where an issue actually could be, which helps us pinpoint what the issue might actually be.

What needs improvement?

I would like to see some ability for automatic mitigation or scripting. If we see an issue, I’d like to have automatic remediation for it, or be able to do a one-click or one-touch to remediate some issues that we see.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is good.

How are customer service and technical support?

I have not used technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We're currently using vCOPS in our VDI environment. I guess we're just showcasing both of them at the same time to figure out weaknesses and issues. vROps is doing better than vCOps, I guess, with the ability to drill down and figure out granular issues.

When selecting a vendor like VMware, my most important criteria is stability, the length of time they've been around, as well who their current customers are.

What other advice do I have?

Demo it out first before you buy it.

Enables us to automate redundant tasks, it's like having extra people on hand
Pros and Cons
  • "I rated this solution an eight because it's intuitive and easy to use. The features that it'll bring us are tremendous"

What is our primary use case?

Our primary use case is to automate redundant tasks. We're limited to two guys, so automation is beneficial. We'd eventually like an implementation of ServiceNow later down the road.

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable features for us would be the automation of the redundant tasks. The implementation of ServiceNow is huge for us as we are essentially a cloud provider to the campus. It'll allow us to automate a lot of tasks that constituents need done.

I have found it to be intuitive and user-friendly. From what I've used it, it's been easy.

    What needs improvement?

    ServiceNow implementation is rough.

For how long have I used the solution?

    Less than one year.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability so far has been good.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is one of the reasons we really like this solution. It's very good and it scales great.

What other advice do I have?

I rated this solution an eight because it's intuitive and easy to use. The features that it'll bring us are tremendous. It's going to be like having extra people on hand. Automation is a powerful tool that we're looking to use that'll make everything a lot easier.

Alerts about our environment are key for us though a focus on vSAN performance, dashboards, would help

    What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the alerts about the environment because that way, if we have a server that goes down, a cluster we know about, or if there's a performance issue, we'll be alerted about it.

How has it helped my organization?

If we have one server in a cluster that went down or if we lost a network adapter, we would be able to know.

    What needs improvement?

Anything that is more helpful to vSAN performance, such as dashboards.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability's good, stays up and running all the time.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I haven't really needed to scale, we have small companies.

How are customer service and technical support?

I haven't been too impressed. There seems to be a lot of running around or not hearing back.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    Our VMware salesperson recommended it.

    How was the initial setup?

Somewhere in the middle of straightforward and complex. I remember setting it up and dashboards would have empty data, and I'd have to do Google searches to figure out how to fix it.

What other advice do I have?

Most important when selecting a vendor are support and performance.

It's a great product if you can get it to work properly and function according to your needs.
