We performed a comparison between Oracle Database, SAP IQ, and SQL Server based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Microsoft, Oracle, SAP and others in Relational Databases Tools."Oracle Database is the most widely accepted database, and it has built-in technical and security capabilities. It supports the new object in the database. The performance and security are very good, and it is user-friendly. There are a lot of people trained to use this solution which makes it simple to find assistance."
"You can scale the solution without any issues."
"Compared to other databases, Oracle Database is very simple to manage in terms of the database itself."
"RDBMS with good performance and technical support. It's a scalable, stable, secure, and easy to implement solution that can be deployed both on cloud and on-premises."
"The feature that I worked with and that excited me the most is one that is not available in other databases, and it involves the use of Java Runtime."
"Especially with VMs, the solution can scale well."
"Technical support is great."
"The technical support from Oracle is good and responsive. I used them for security updates and patches."
"It is very robust for ad hoc DW queries and its columnar compression is unique and valuable."
"Valuable features for us include the compression, speed, fast response time, and easy object maintenance."
"Columnar storage allows high compression, high load rates and high query performance."
"The column-based technologies (basically all the database for ITP) are used for SAP IQ. It is used as a column-based solution."
"Unbeatable speed and compression with a colummn-structured relational database."
"The primary benefit of SAP IQ is its ability to limit the expansion of the costly SAP HANA database, which has limited storage capacity. This necessitates a form of data management that involves moving data from SAP HANA to SAP NLS, which is essentially archiving. This allows us to retain access to the data via a link whenever it is required."
"This solution is user-friendly and easy to understand."
"The solution can be deployed in a few minutes."
"Microsoft SQL Server is one of the better database administration software packages out there. It runs primarily on Windows Server platforms, but it can also run on Linux platforms."
"What I like most is the management, as it is very easy compared with other products."
"The most valuable features of SQL Server are the speed, great support, and it is from a known vendor."
"Since we can automate most of our tasks, it means that the management is very easy."
"From a security perspective, we have no complaints."
"The solution has a reliable database."
"This product would be improved with Support Services for more production access."
"The solution can be quite expensive for small and medium-sized enterprises. Not too many companies can actually afford the pricing."
"There are SQL plan flips that are happening with version 12c. We would basically like to have the next version wherein we don't see such plan flips because they create performance issues. There are quite a lot of features that I would like to see, but this is the main one for now."
"They should reduce its price and provide faster support."
"They could improve the scalability a bit. There are other options that are more scalable, for example."
"Oracle Database has improved how we do our administrative backups. The solution has a smaller footprint than 11g, it's more efficient on the resources for the users. It has a smoother user experience with the ERP and fewer field transactions."
"The pricing is the one sticking point for the solution because it is very expensive."
"I have contacted the support from Oracle and they are sometimes slow."
"Multiplex is very problematic. There are consistency problems in the metadata, meaning it is possible to lose metadata consistency. You should make sure you have healthy backups."
"I think the universe should be part of the Sybase IQ tool set."
"The solution works best when combined with other SAP solutions. If the environment has other systems other options might be better."
"Concurrency and functional error messaging."
"The room for improvement would be the marketing of the product, because this product is much better than advertised."
"The organization who owns the product does not support it well and appears not to be doing significant development for the future."
"Debugging from the debugger tool functionality should be enhanced."
"Our biggest problem with SQL Server is latency. The communication between the cloud and the on-premises environment is slow. The data needs to be encrypted for security, and you have to exchange data certificates between environments. You can adjust the configuration to improve performance, but it would be nice if SQL Server had some templates to resolve problems."
"We have had problems implementing a data warehouse using SQL Server."
"When we are talking about event space architecture, scalability generally comes into play. For example, I might have a hundred thousand transactions a second, and then all of a sudden, I build something that everybody in the world wants. The next thing I know is that I have a million transactions a second. So, to be able to process the throughput, I'd have to scale up, and then when the holidays are over, I'm again down to a hundred thousand transactions, and I want to scale back down. SQL Server is not going to do that. In this way, it is not very scalable. One of the reasons why they want us to use Kafka is so that if we need to, we can do that, but our base program is on SQL Server. So, this is where we would use a Kafka event stack so that if I need more servers, I can just write a command, and I can have more consumers, more brokers, and more producers, and when the holiday season is over, it scales right back down again. SQL Server is not going to do that."
"We experience latency at times when there is a lot of data being processed."
"Security is an area that can be improved."
"While using it, we really didn't experience any pain points."
"Its security can be improved. When you look at the Windows environment, it isn't the most secure environment. It is exposed to so many attacks. They continuously need to improve the security of the platform on which it sits."
