We performed a comparison between IBM Spectrum Protect, NAKIVO Backup & Replication, and Veritas Backup Exec based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Veeam Software, Zerto, Commvault and others in Backup and Recovery."Reliability: It has never had a problem with backups or restores. If you store something, it is there."
"We are talking about a stable solution which boasts good performance and security."
"It is pretty scalable. It will scale to anything."
"I've had no problems with the stability of this solution."
"It scales from very small to very large. It is easily the most scalable product out there."
"We like IBM Spectrum's versioning capabilities. It lets us specify how many versions of a file we want to keep and for how long. Also, the archive component of the software helps us a lot."
"The ability to migrate between media over a long period of time. My customers are long-time users, and they have benefited from being able to move between tiers. They have been able to do this within the product."
"Technical support is okay. We have not had many issues with them."
"It uses all the bandwidth available if not limited and backs up entire servers with all data about four times faster than Windows Server Backup and EaseUS TODO Backup."
"It has saved us numerous times from power outages and server failure."
"The initial setup is very straightforward."
"The ability to restore in a catastrophic event is priceless, since every company must use a backup solution of some sort."
"With Nakivo, I have the peace of mind that all of my production environment is safely backed up and can be restored safely, easily, and quickly with a few clicks."
"They reply immediately to any query raised from us as a technician or consultant and they know the pulse of the market and keep updating the features in such a big way."
"The user interface is good, and it's user-friendly. I also like its usability with hyper-convergence products like Nutanix and others in the data infrastructure."
"It can be quickly configured via web pages."
"The ease-of-use in general is great."
"Backup Exec 2012 R2 is a very good product for the Windows file system and SQL backups. It is very user-friendly, but the next version Backup Exec 2014 that is released and the other next versions of Backup Exec product is not so friendly."
"The solution was stable and reliable."
"The implementation is straightforward."
"The beauty of the solution is that you can rely on it. It offers a quick recovery time when it's backing up items. The way it recovers data is excellent."
"Veritas is good for small environments."
"I like that Backup Exec integrates with Microsoft Exchange. We can retrieve backups from the email boxes."
"It has good stability. Its interface is very good, responsive, and easy for restoring data. I use it for backup, encryption, and restore operations, and it works. I am using many agents from VM to LMDP. I also use an agent for SQL Server, which has advanced options because it is the Enterprise version."
"I would like to see integration with Copy Data Management, which is an IBM product. Right now, these two products are siloed, so if these two become integrated, the product would become a bit of a powerhouse."
"We have run into some periods where we have found some tape issues which were causing us problems, but we resolved them. For some reason, we had a bunch of drives go offline on our disk storage (our virtual library)."
"It should have the ability to break down the data that's being backed up. It should have better reporting."
"The solution is evolving, so it has to be evolved to fit all new types of software requirements too."
"A lot of my customers always ask for legal holds, especially on email."
"It could use single store. The ability to mark an archive from my backup for long-term retention."
"It has a lot of areas for improvement. Its reporting for job completion or incompletion can be improved. It should also provide a granular recovery, ease of operation, data life cycle management, and media management. It should support a backup in such a format that in case of a disaster, one can start the virtual machine out of the backup itself. Its reliability can also be better. It is also expensive, and their support is also poor."
"IBM Spectrum Protect does have a lot of the features that we need, but I think they need to improve their backup virtualization and backup for container."
"What must be improved is the response time to technical support requests."
"There are many features we have not had the opportunity to try, such as Tape Backups, Office 365 backups, and many other things."
"Updating VM Tools on a replicated VM could be better."
"I would like to have a built-in SNMP client, which is important if we want to monitor it using Zabbix, Nagios, or another monitoring solution."
"The process for getting unused diskspace back from the data repository is slow."
"Updating VM Tools on a replicated VM could be better."
"It would be good to have some Oracle database backup capability from the Linux OS in the next release."
"I would like to see support for backing up from other platforms, such as physical machines."
"The scalability could be improved even though the solution is targeted to small customers."
"Veritas Backup Exec could improve the analytics. If there were some more detail in our scan reports it would be beneficial."
"In terms of improvements, I think the pricing model could be improved. They charge you by port, for every port that you have even if you're not using all of them."
"It would be nice to improve the backup acceleration and the fast restoration required."
"This solution does not support image-level backup of a physical server."
"It is currently missing the dynamic backup feature for virtual machines, which is available in NetWorker. I can create politics in NetWorker to add virtual machines with specific tags, but I cannot do this in Backup Exec, which is a minus point for me. Currently, a user has to send a request to the Backup administrator to add a machine to the backup, but I should be able to create rules to automatically add a new machine to the backup. This kind of functionality is very important in current times, especially when we are using cloud solutions. I should be able to create more than one stream in a policy and specify how many streams I want to run in parallel in one policy. Currently, I have to manually create more policies to backup more than one virtual machine at the same time. Their support can also be improved in terms of response time."
"I wish that they have an outlet for the other products from Veritas built into the Backup Exec product. For example, Backup Exec does only server backup. Currently, it is possible to read the backup of one other product, but if they can add more products so that you can just go into the dashboard of these other products by clicking on a button within the Backup Exec product, it would be great."
"It's not too stable for client-server architecture. Center Management is not so interactive, and then there are some issues regarding the complex licensing which needs improvement."
