Takes a lot of the manual work out of replicating backups
Pros and Cons

  • "I would like to see better centralized management, because I use it across multiple clients. To have a console that centrally manages them would be nice."

What is our primary use case?

I use it for server backups and workstation backups and it performs pretty well.

How has it helped my organization?

It has taken a lot of the manual work out of replicating backups.

What is most valuable?

The ability to clone backups, to have backups replicated.

What needs improvement?

Better centralized management, because I use it across multiple clients. To have a console that centrally manages them would be nice.

For how long have I used the solution?

One to three years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I use it for very small workstations to launch servers, so the scalability is good.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We chose Acronis because it had better non-cloud backup features.

How was the initial setup?

The setup was very straightforward, it was easy. There weren't any complications to it.

What other advice do I have?

My most important criterion when selecting a vendor is the usual: pricing.

I rate this solution at eight out of 10. I don't think any backup solution is perfect, so I think eight is a fair rating for it.

Make sure you are looking for objectives for your backup. There are less expensive solutions out there. You really have to weigh what your backup objectives are in the first place.

It is cost effective compared to other backups
Pros and Cons
  • "Acronis has many features, which are really very interesting, when it comes to data backup and recovery, especially disaster recovery (DR)."
  • "It would be nice to have it on the cloud platform without using third-party equipment."

How has it helped my organization?

The beauty with it, I can just buy my license and backup in these machines. In addition, it is cost effective compared to other backups.

What is most valuable?

Acronis has many features, which are really very interesting, when it comes to data backup and recovery, especially disaster recovery (DR).

What needs improvement?

It would be nice to have it on the cloud platform without using third-party equipment. There are some backup solutions which whereby if someone wants to do data backup they can do exchange server backups, Outlook backups, but what I am interested in is if a client is interested in a backup solution, he can easily backup his own information from a standalone machine. For example, using the desktop direct to the cloud without necessarily first buying a NAS to put a NAS in place.

For how long have I used the solution?

More than five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable product.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No issues. What I came to realize is if our storage space is coming to full, I have seen the option expanding it. I do not think I have any problems with scalability.

How was the initial setup?

It is not hard a hard thing to set up. Acronis is one solution I have interacted with and it is a bit simpler/easier compared to some other ones which I have interacted with. When it comes to setup, I have no problems.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

When it comes to elements like cost, I think it is the only backup solution which has perpetual licenses, whereby you buy the license once and for all.

I would like to know if there is any other distributor where I can get this solution without necessarily first waiting for one distributor to respond, where there is no confusion, in most cases things do not move right. Look at Acronis, we only have one distributor in East Africa and you can request a price from a distributor and they take their time. Really that one is disturbing some of us a lot.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

No.

It's manageable and requires little maintenance, but it has some limitations with cloud backup compared to other solutions
Pros and Cons
  • "The interface is easy to use. They keep on adding new features. Acronis recently added multi-platform support."
  • "Acronis has some limitations on the cloud side."

What is our primary use case?

We use Acronis for data backup.

What is most valuable?

The interface is easy to use. They keep on adding new features. Acronis recently added multi-platform support.

What needs improvement?

Mobile backup is something that would be good to have. I can't think of anything else, but some performance enhancements and additional features would always be welcome.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've been reselling Acronis for a few years now.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Acronis is relatively stable. I haven't seen any significant stability issues, and we don't have any serious concerns with performance aside from typical operational issues, which we see once in a while.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Acronis is easy to scale.

How are customer service and support?

Acronis customer support is excellent. The vendor is responsive.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use Veeam and Veritas. They are similar products. Acronis has some limitations on the cloud side, but Veeam's cloud backup is quite efficient on cloud backup, especially when it comes to Microsoft 365, etc. Now I think Acronis also has those capabilities.

How was the initial setup?

Setting up Acronis is quite simple. We mostly do it internally. Once our staff is fully trained, we should be able to do it all ourselves, but until then, we'll get help from the vendor. The total time for deployment depends on the size of the project. It can take anywhere from one day to a few days. Acronis requires almost no maintenance.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price could be more competitive.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Acronis Backup seven out of 10. I would recommend it because Acronis is a highly effective product. It's easy to use and manage.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Hybrid Cloud

Enables backup of entire computer including operating system, registry, fully or incrementally

What is most valuable?

The fact that I can backup my entire computer including the operating system, registry, etc., and my data drive. I can optionally restore either one or more entire drives or specific files or folders. The backup can be done automatically each night, and can be either a full or an incremental backup. I do the full backup each Sunday and incremental backups all other nights.

How has it helped my organization?

I never need to worry that the installation and removal of a problematic application has negatively affected my operation.

What needs improvement?

The initial installation of the product was difficult. However subsequent releases and updates have been easily applied. I assume that the initial installation has been improved since 2011.

For how long have I used the solution?

Since 2011.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

No.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

No.

How are customer service and technical support?

Outstanding. Their telephone support is wonderful, including their ability to take control of my computer and directly fix any problem I’m having, which is a rare occurrence. Their people are easy to communicate with, and their user guide is also outstanding.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I don’t remember the name of the previous product I used, but it was discontinued by the vendor. It also was not as complete as the Acronis product.

How was the initial setup?

As noted above, the initial installation of the product was difficult. However subsequent releases and updates have been easily applied. I assume that the initial installation has been improved since 2011.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Take their full support package, which includes their ability to take control of and repair any problem with the product on your computer. It is a very inexpensive upgrade.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Yes, but it was so long ago that I don’t remember the names of the alternative products.

What other advice do I have?

Do it!

It's never failed for me and it's always been there for me. As far as I'm concerned, it's rock solid.

How has it helped my organization?

It just got me out of a jam. Now, with these ransomware attacks that have been steadily coming across the internet, all my backups are inside of a local backup network attached storage device that requires credentials to gain access to it. They're not encrypted and I'm able to restore my customers back to the next day of production so they can continue moving on.

What is most valuable?

Just the backup and the recovery because it's simple and I've never had issues with it. It's never failed for me and it's always been there for me.

Try it Out! Get FREE 30-Day Trial of Acronis Backup. Includes Advanced Functionality.

What needs improvement?

I have no recommendations for improvement whatsoever. As far as I'm concerned, it's rock solid and I'm very pleased with it and I will continue to sell it and support it.

I have had an issue at times with support, because they weren't able to get to me and I've had to call back after an hour or so, but other than that, I can't be more pleased with the product.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I've never had it crash or lag. I roughly have 40 or 50 different clients that utilize the Acronis products and I've never had any issues with them.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I think it's very scalable. I run it in enterprises and I run it in SMB clients.

How are customer service and technical support?

On a scale of one to 10, I'd give them an eight. They haven't had enough techs to answer my call immediately, so I've had to call back after an hour or so.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Symantec Backup Exec which was okay at the time because it was all that we had. Once I discovered Acronis, I pretty much abandoned Backup Exec and now all my backups are with Acronis.

Try it Out! Get FREE 30-Day Trial of Acronis Backup. Includes Advanced Functionality.

How was the initial setup?

Setup is very simple.

What other advice do I have?

I would give them the green light, and say, “Go with it, it's a rock solid product."

The ability to restore on a brand-new, bare bones, different mother board-type of computer. A total different build.
Pros and Cons
  • "I would definitely say the backup and recovery. It used to be a separate module. It was a recovery part and it would literally duplicate the machine to bare bones."

How has it helped my organization?

Acronis Backup and Recovery with universal restore allowed me to get back online again. Had I not had that, my business would have probably have tanked. It literally saved my skin.

    What is most valuable?

I would definitely say the backup and recovery. It used to be a separate module. It was a recovery part and it would literally duplicate the machine to bare bones.

    What needs improvement?

I really can't suggest any room for improvement to be honest.

Any questions I might have, I call support which I am assuming is in India. But the support's been fantastic, they've been extremely helpful. I really don't have anything but praise. I've told people about the products.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

I don't think I've ever experienced stability issues. If there was any issue at all it was just due to user error. Or maybe just not knowing. But I hear there's a new interface. I just downloaded the brand new version, but I haven't installed it yet. I just have it in case I need to have it.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Seems fine to me as far as scalability, I think it's got everything it already needs in it.

How are customer service and technical support?

The support is outstanding. It's around $15 a year to renew a license for support. I would recommend that others have it because in the event that your computer blows up, the motherboard blows up, you can always rebuild a brand-new computer and have it be the exact same configuration.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

    No, this was our first.

    How was the initial setup?

I called support about the setup. I called support a couple times because (I think it was) my memory faded. It was straightforward after that.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I would say that at the pricepoint that it's at, it's definitely worth the money.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

The reason I got Acronis was really for it's universal restore. The ability to restore on a brand new, bare bones, different mother board-type of computer. A total different build. That was my main reason for getting it, which so far has been great, because I've done it two, three times already.

The other backup type is file back, which is where I used Seagate. Seagate has backup software that backs up any files that are changed, that have new time stamps on them. So that's the only other type of backup I had, but that has nothing to do with bare-bones, which is what Acronis is mainly for.

A convenient way to back up Windows servers because it hasn't been convenient in the past.

    What is most valuable?

A convenient way to back up Windows servers, especially given that it hasn't been convenient in the past.

How has it helped my organization?

The previous backup solutions that I've tried have failed and sometimes failed without warning and were very difficult to keep going. So a reliable backup chain was sometimes hard to keep. With Acronis, it doesn't seem to have any problems running or keeping its chain going, so it's peace of mind.

    What needs improvement?

The setup, the initial setup, does different kind of Windows servers and has different kind of agents for different scenarios. Sometimes the initial setup was a little bit complicated. Their customer service did a very good, did a very good job of helping. But it took a little while to get it all up and running. Once it got up and running, it seems have been stable.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

    No issues.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Yeah, it seems to be as scalable as I need. We've added virtual servers and real servers and storage, and we never had problems doing any of that.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used a different solution, and I switched because the solution I was using wasn't stable.

    How was the initial setup?

We have several different Windows servers and several different kinds of servers, some virtual and some not, and all in all it was just kind of a complicated set up.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I had several choices. I don't recall all the names. We narrowed it down to a choice between two or three products, and we had some specific features in mind that we wanted to make sure that we could do. Being able to run servers virtually off-site, and some other things like that.

What other advice do I have?

Rely on the tech support department to help you implement it. They were a great help to me.

We've had some problems since we've implemented their system. We've actually had hardware problems with some of our servers. We have never had a backup fail because of the software. And even when we had a hardware problem, once we got it solved, their backup solution immediately kicked back in and started working. I don't have any complaints about it.

I just feel, like always, implementation and, sometimes, user interfaces could be a little bit easier, more straightforward. But I haven't used any of these products, either this one or its competitors, that I didn't feel that way about it. I just feel like they could be made a little bit more intuitive, and that's the only reason I didn't give it a 10.

Over the Network Backup needs improvement. Works very well with real-time backup of our database files server

    What is most valuable?

Acronis Backup Advanced for Windows Server

How has it helped my organization?

We update our Vaccination Tracking System (VTS) software on a monthly basis with software patches and added features, with Acronis Backup & Recovery, it enables us to always revert to the initial state when we experience challenges with the test environment. Because of the numerous reports we get from our staff in the filed while using the VTS, ABR allows us to incrementally backup important changes as we continually try to fix compatibility issues with different scenarios. Works very well with real-time backup of our database files server when staff upload information captured from polio vaccination tracking.

    What needs improvement?

    Over the Network Backup

For how long have I used the solution?

    Since September 2013 (14 months)

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

Yes, mostly with Acronis Snap Deploy, using network deployment, most clients do not automatically get DHCP settings when using dual network adapters on the Server. And the network settings aren't automatically recognized from the Snap Deploy interface, until set manually. (even after successfully booting into Acronis via the network).

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

We haven't seen any issues with stability.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We haven't seen any issues with scalability.

How are customer service and technical support?

    Customer Service:

Good. There are a variety of options to choose from.

    Technical Support:

Excellent! Have been with the support team severally through chat and sometimes if things get really complicated they assist remotely to access my server and fix things up for me.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

Yes, I was using Windows Backup and Restore feature. Upon discovering Acronis, I was fascinated by the flexible granular detailed features of 'what to and where to (multiple locations)' Backup and its central management capabilities as opposed to Windows' local system administration.

    How was the initial setup?

None that I found difficult. Configuration is mostly wizard-based, so its pretty straightforward.

    What about the implementation team?

    In-house

    What was our ROI?

Can't really say in monetary terms but it is really Time-saving. Extremely time efficient.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Discovered Acronis first, and went with the solution. Found it to be more user friendly and flexible.

What other advice do I have?

Worth trying out. Worked for me. Should have a good system admin to implement the solution more effectively.
