Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The good thing with AppDynamics Databases is that it will give you a pretty good overview of the data, all the database-like tables, long-running queries, jobs running on the databases, and the queries that are taking more time. So, it's at a deeper level with all the database functionalities, and you will get that information. So, it's a pretty good tool in that sense.""The product is easy to install, it took about half an hour. The use and the configurations are simple as well.""AppDynamics Database Monitoring's most valuable feature is the ability of the out-of-the-box to update the information, provide various metrics, and possibly include custom metrics.""You have a live view of what happens when something goes wrong on the production or support side. You don't have to scramble and do guesswork. We can identify the query that creates the bottleneck or slows the performance of the database system. It can give you points on how to debug and fix the system.""Database scaling or migration projects play a supportive role throughout the development, monitoring, and troubleshooting phases.""The most valuable aspect of the solution is the ability to discover and track transactions.""To be honest, it's a fantastic product.""What I found valuable in AppDynamics Database Monitoring is good technical support. I also like that it's scalable and stable."

"What I like best about New Relic APM is its user interface because it's simple. The most valuable feature of New Relic APM is end-to-end monitoring.""We have done the New Relic integration with Serverless AWS, which has helped us with monitoring, and keeping our monitoring from our on-premise part with the cloud part.""The most important thing is that it tells us where the latency in throughput and response time are.""Server uptime is its most valuable feature.""We appreciate the way that this solution allows us to monitor the ongoing status of the UI at any given time.""It is a one stop shop and integrated with PagerDuty seamlessly. The solution is pretty self-contained.""Every time there is a crisis, high traffic, or if we see a problem with a server, we go to New Relic and monitor it to determine the cause.""The synthetics, alerts, and native inbuilt capabilities for monitoring the cloud with the New Relic agents have been helpful."

Cons
"The solution should add some monitoring similar to Oracle monitoring tools for databases. It has a lot of features to monitor SQL queries, and make some recommendation to resolve it. AppDynamics is just monitoring for delays and doesn't provide any recommendations for that. It's a deficiency.""The product's drawback is the licensing pricing. It could be better.""The solution could improve the server size for AppDynamics to include middleware products, which is doesn't yet cover. If they add middleware for sophisticated sites, AppDynamics would be the global choice.""The scalability could be improved.""Stability-wise, we experienced some performance issues when upgrading from 4.4 to 4.5.""The networking monitor function could be better, we are not getting many details from it.""The solution must improve security and setup.""Based on the user experience feedback that we have had, I think that the most important thing to improve is the availability of the SaaS, the cloud environment."

More AppDynamics Database Monitoring Cons →

"New Relic needs to improve is the user data schema.""Compared to their competitors, they are missing some features at the moment.""It is a serious tool and requires a lot of time invested in order to understand how it works.""It would help customers if there were an on-premises version available.""New Relic APM is a good tool, and it has a database of failures, but it could use a list of customer-specific failures. New Relic APM should be able to give my company advanced analytics through AI.""Documentation could be improved in New Relic APM, so users would have more clarity on configuring the dashboard. If New Relic gave better guidelines, users would find it easier to understand the metrics and features of New Relic APM. Another area for improvement is integration with Kubernetes. Currently, the process isn't user-friendly. It's challenging and lacks documentation for users to understand how to integrate New Relic APM with Kubernetes quickly. With multiple levels of Kubernetes dockers and other DBs on different clouds, it's tricky to gather all into New Relic APM on a single dashboard. What I'd like to see in the next version of New Relic APM is a single dashboard where you can easily view which applications fall under specific APMs. If there's a search feature where you can type in a keyword to find out if an APM is related to a particular application, that would be great.""The integration and configuration of this product in our AWS environment needs improvement on the filtering part. I would like it to go more granular on accounts.""I would like a feature where I can turn off alerting at a policy level. Thus, when a policy is inactive, I can shut down all of my alerts within the policy."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "In terms of pricing, I feel that when you compare the benefits that we get to the price that we paid, it is reasonable."
  • "Pricing is based on the size of the deployment."
  • "There is an annual cost for the use of this solution."
  • "It could be a bit lower, but looking at the scalability, functionality, and other things, you can understand why AppDynamics is so expensive as compared to some of the cheaper products that don't have that full single pane of glass they've got. Dynatrace has got three different elements that you need to log into just to get a full view, which is not so good, and because of that, it is a bit cheaper."
  • "The licensing scheme is very complex. They need to make it easier."
  • "We have purchased a few licenses for AppDynamics Database Monitoring and the price is high."
  • "The license for AppDynamics is procured by our customers."
  • "We have a license-based solution. That means you need a license for each server you monitor."
  • More AppDynamics Database Monitoring Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "New Relic is either free with low retention and minimal functionalities, or expensive with full options and retention."
  • "The monthly cost os $1000 per server per month, but it could be even more. We pay about $250 for the server, and then New Relic wants over $1000 to give us statistics on those servers."
  • "Cost is significant with a lot of extras."
  • "It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly."
  • "If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity."
  • "I recommend using the free version of New Relic. If you like the free version and understand its importance for your company, you can move to the trial. Then, you can migrate to the paid version."
  • "There is a picture which goes to your browser and it monitors requests from other users. However, it's impossible to use now because the price is very high. The feature is very nice, but I tried it during the trial period, and the current price makes it impossible to use."
  • "They gave us aggressive discounts when they were brought in for the first time, but they have also kept them for the year-on-year renewals, which has been absolutely fine."

    Key Benefits

    • Visualize end-to-end application performance, from the browser to the database
    • Get alerts when database thresholds are violated
    • Monitor key performance metrics like top users, programs, SQL, objects and more.
    • See execution plans for slow SQL to isolate performance bottlenecks

New Relic is a versatile tool that can be customized to fit the needs of different organizations. Its primary use cases include performance monitoring, time series analysis, infrastructure monitoring, synthetic monitoring of APIs, and providing insight into UI performance.
