We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Each new session started with the live testing feature allows for a cleared browser and new experience to be able to not only see these attributes on the page clearly but also pass clean data.""At the moment, all our deploys depend on results of automation. If the tests are failing, then we know that something is wrong at the early stages of development.""The screen shot portal is essential for an easy way to run tests across hundreds of browsers and retrieve screenshots which then indicate success or failure.""Video recording of the script running in a cloud server.""CrossBrowserTesting allows us to test our site with real-world devices in real-world scenarios and find what we're missing.""I am able to continuously test my new releases across browser versions without issues.""This solution helps lower the overhead cost associated with buying multiple devices.""When I started to work on testing automation, I was very excited about how easy it is to run tests on different browsers. It was just a matter of configuration."

"Good text reading ability.""We did see a massive return on investment from using Eggplant.""It is easy to set up.""We are able to now automate tests, which so far have been manual.""It provides very strong cross-platform support.""The solution is a stable one.""The most valuable features of Eggplant Digital Automation Intelligence are bug hunting and OCR technology.""GUI testing is the strength of the tool. The tool works as expected, and the support response from eggPlant, as a company, has been quick and substantial."

Cons
"The "Getting Started" documentation for Selenium testing could be improved.""A problem that we are facing quite often is related to the network connection. Tests can fail if the remote CrossBrowserTesting's VM has connection problems. This happens mostly with browsers of Internet Explorer family which work on Windows OS.""A wider range of physical devices with more browser versions in the Selenium Grid would be great to insure users with out-of-date devices are able to interact with our sites.""The five minute timeouts can cause irritation if you have just popped away to consult some supporting documentation.""We had some issues with the onboarding process and the cloud conductivity could improve.""I have experienced some lagging issues, and it does not seem like all of the testing environments are configured the same.""I have had quite a few issues trying to use a virtual machine to test our application on.""Elements of 'real' mobile/tablet testing could be sped up."

More CrossBrowserTesting Cons →

"Eggplant Digital Automation Intelligence could improve by lowering the price.""I would like to see standardized actions already built into Eggplant. For example, "wait eight seconds". That way, I wouldn't need to create it as an action. Right now, I have to program that wait and describe it as an action so that everybody knows it is an action that waits eight seconds... That way, somebody who is not familiar with programming processes like "if-else", or "for", or "while", would be able, from the first moment, and without programming, to put some easy-to-use, standardized, actions in place.""The language is too specific; it is just for Eggplant.""The reporting function is a bit shallow. The solution does not offer very comprehensive reporting in terms of your test results. The reporting time and the logs are very high level as well. These areas need improvement.""A step forward would be to have event support, because it is more or less linear at the moment.""If one area could be improved, it would be some of their documentation. In particular, some of their online help and user support documentation is a little bit out of date and could be revised and updated on a more frequent basis. Other than that, I haven't really found any issues or problems.""The solution would crash from time to time.""The IDE could be even more full-featured. Because I was a developer, I was very spoiled by either Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio for shortcuts. For example, I was able to say "ctor" and hit Tab and it would create a template of a constructor for me... It would be great, when I want to create a new function, if there were shortcut commands like those that helped create all of the functions, or if there were shortcut features to do any of the complex plans."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The lowest price point is very reasonable. It is also useful if only one person in the company needs to check on the browser display."
  • "A few intermediary pricing options for small QA teams would be nice, e.g., unlimited screenshots, "as you need it" parallel tests, etc."
  • "CrossBrowserTesting offered the best value for its price."
  • "It is worth the pricing as the product is supported on multiple platforms and browsers."
  • "SmartBear offers bundles of products that work together."

  • "It is scalable, but it is a matter of money in the pocket. You can scale it, but then you have to have additional licenses. The licensing approach of eggPlant is not the best."
  • "Make a smart decision about the number of developer- and execution-only licenses you purchase to maximize your budget. We found that going heavier on execution-only licenses has been a way to reduce our costs and maximize our ability to benefit from the software."
  • "End-to-end testing isn't possible for us because of the licensing problems. It's very expensive, so we only have two development/execution licenses."
  • "It probably has a yearly license."
  • "This solution is expensive when compared to the market. However, the reason it is more expensive is because of its stability, high performance, and for its support of any technology."
  • "Eggplant Test is a very expensive solution."
