Pros | ||
We are a 100% satisfied with the stability of the solution. Stability-wise, this solution is fine. The feature I find most valuable, is the deduplication, because the nature of the data that we are using in our current environment, has a lot of replicated data. The performance of the All-Flash System is very good. There is more enhanced performance and data production in the solution, which I appreciate. The initial setup was really straightforward. It was not complex. Deployment took one month, due to the data migration duration. The FS900 uses custom built flash modules offering with better latency, and is also denser packed then most modular all-flash arrays using commodity SSDs. An easy interface to set up, good build quality, and easily accessible parts for hot swapping combined with sub 500 us latency under heavy load. The initial customer technical support was efficient and effective. | It is the most stable high-end solution in this area. This is one of the most stable, high-end solutions in this area. The high performance of flash storage is especially valuable to us. This is one of the most reliable and dependable products on the market. I am happy about the storage system and availability. It's a state of the art solution in storage systems. High-availability and performance are the strongest aspects of these machines. | We get storage access without the need for more human monitoring of those resources. Not only is it high performing, but it is also more compact and fits better in our storage arrays than equipment from other storage providers. This solution has given us reliability that is evident by the fact that it has been running for five years with virtually no hiccups. I really like the form factor, which is nice and compact and small. The solution's uptime is fantastic. It's 100 percent. In addition, Nimble's storage capacity efficiency is very effective. The all-flash positions our organization for growth. It is much easier to use, and we do not have to worry about the I/O profile of the workloads that we putting on the array. InfoSight has helped us resolved an issue where the snapshots were growing too big. InfoSight has identified controller failures or performance issues. |
Cons | ||
I think the only thing the developers can look at, is that it is limited to 25 gigabytes currently. In the next release they might want to increase that. This solution needs a management console where we are alerted to issues and can report them, or escalate them through email or another method. I would like to see an improvement in the handling of large amounts of rights. The solution is not easy to implement. It takes a lot of time to study the product and it's a little complicated in general. The solution is not able to replicate data in one-to-many scenario. When we performed some HW fault tests under heavy load, we found that some of the parts (fan units and PSUs) should only be removed from the airflow for a short time (less than a minute) when replacing. Include an option to upload the support package to the IBM ECuRep when opening an IBM PMR. | The installation procedure it a bit difficult, because it is a high-end solution. With this type of product, the original company is interested in doing the setup for customers in the area, but because of sanctions we were not able to get support in our area. We faced many issued trying to learn to run this product. The interface should be simplified and made easier to use. In terms of new features, I would be interested to see deduplication added in their next release. In the next version I would like to see additional features like artificial intelligence and an increase in the amount of data it can store. In the next version I would like to see more intelligence. The user experience is pretty bad in Hitachi. A lot of mandatory tasks take a long time to work through. | The large hardware components may be difficult to fit into some standard racks. I would like to see more advanced analytics in the next release of this solution. An area that needs improvement is extending the life of the device after five years. I would like to see greater integration with Microsoft's Hyper-V platform. The way the market is going, supporting NVMe storage would be useful as a step up. I don't think it is officially released yet, but the main reason that we chose Nimble is because of the sync rep feature. So, I would like to see that further evolve. This feature will be essential for our setups. We have had some stability issues with one array which has happened twice during subsequent software updates but is due to a bad Postgres database. I would like to see more integrations. |
Pricing and Cost Advice | ||
For a yearly license, it is about $100,000. There are no additional costs. The entire system is included. | This solution is cheaper than Dell EMC VMAX. When you are looking for a high-end solution, price matters, but availability and stability are more important than the price. When you are looking for high-end solutions such as this, price is less important than stability and availability. Pricing could be better, because the cost is very high. I would like to see better pricing and more discounts. | We paid about $80,000 for our permanent site licence. There are no licensing costs for this solution. We buy the arrays outright, so we don't pay anything on an ongoing monthly basis for licensing. Our hybrid solution could do with some more competitive pricing and more scaled-down deployments. Already, the smallest one is too much for us. We would flourish by having a smaller unit. If you don't go cheap, it is eventually worth it. However, the initial investment is high. It is a CAPEX investment. Over the anticipated lifespan, I would say the pricing is $10,000 a month. The price has room for improvement. Performance per dollar, when we looked at it, was the highest that we could get for what we needed. |
