We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
The FS900 uses custom built flash modules offering with better latency, and is also denser packed then most modular all-flash arrays using commodity SSDs.An easy interface to set up, good build quality, and easily accessible parts for hot swapping combined with sub 500 us latency under heavy load. The initial customer technical support was efficient and effective. The performance monitoring feature is useful as it can report in 15 minute intervals by hour, day, week, month, or by a custom date range. The FlashSystem 900 consistently delivers performance below 1ms for read/write. This performance is essential for an effective SVC stretch-cluster configuration across two datacenters, and presenting active-active storage to the customer. The most valuable features are, of course, the virtualization of the storage, the performance, and the compression. The speed of the unit is its best feature. It performs very well. The speed and the ease of installation are the most valuable features.

It’s very good at IOPS.It is fast and reliable. There hasn’t been a single failure in three years of use.The Deduplication feature in VDI environments. If Tintri says we can host 3000 VMs in our storage, I know we can host 3000 VMs there. Believe the results.A very good support team that is available 24/7. They have real technical staff with strong knowledge.Web GUI for maintenance and resource monitoring purposes is easy to use.Upgrades are super easy and can be done during business hours without interruptions in production. Its speed has been absolutely fantastic. Its VM-aware features have been excellent to use and integrate with XenServer as well.

Cons
When we performed some HW fault tests under heavy load, we found that some of the parts (fan units and PSUs) should only be removed from the airflow for a short time (less than a minute) when replacing.Include an option to upload the support package to the IBM ECuRep when opening an IBM PMR.With regards to the IBM V7000 storage system, where we have multiple tiers of storage, a heat map would show I/O distribution across the tiers of storage.I would like to see bigger modules.I would like to have a larger disk. Right now, you can get 57 terabytes in a shelf. Once they get the larger disk and you get larger capacities, it'll be even better.

I would like it to have the ability to store data other than virtual machines. At the moment, you can only connect VMs to it, and that’s a bit disappointing. In sync and automated mirror between two Tintris is missing.I would love more insight into each virtual machine statistic. The Tintri Analytics site is excellent for long-term trending, but more data would be great. The product could be improved by adding iSCSI support. We have had to rethink how we implement some of our services due to this.I think with the world soon becoming only SSD, possibly NVMe, and 3D Xpoint. It would make sense for Tintri to drop the hybrid array down the line.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Information Not Available
The area it needs to improve is the pricing. It could be better.Make sure that you have all licenses in one go. Options afterwards can cost extra. An "all-in-one" license model would be better at this price range.Ensure the storage system "natively" supports the protocols that you wish to use (i.e., CIFS) without the need for the overhead of internal "conversion VMs" that run the protocols.Tintri is reasonably priced for the solution you get. Advanced features do require extra to use.The licensing model is relatively simple. For things like replication, however, the licensing needs to be looked at.

Overview
IBM FlashSystem products are enterprise computer data storage systems that store data on flash memory chips. Unlike storage systems that use standard solid-state drives, IBM FlashSystem products incorporate custom hardware based on technology from the 2012 acquisition of Texas Memory Systems. This hardware provides performance, reliability, and efficiency benefits versus competitive offerings.
