We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"ODM's most valuable features are that it's easy to define and divide business rules, and it can handle very large numbers of transactions per second.""ODM provides an efficient, comprehensive way to manage all the applications. Regardless of the BPM tool we are using, we choose ODM because it's flexible.""Its ability to use decision tables to codify the rules and manage them better.""It is a scalable solution.""So far, the usability is great. It's also easy to set up.""The business owns the rules and they're taken away from IT, so business doesn't need to ask IT to implement them, and IT doesn't need to implement them. So the business owns their decisions and their rules, and therefore, finally, they take proper ownership, and model and maintain them properly.""The effects of allowing business users to update business rules instead of IT are business users have a closer relationship with what rules they need and are able to make those rules a lot quicker in the tools that ODM provides than if an IT person had to do it, and do it in code, requiring compiling code and deploying it.""With ODM as a centralized rules engine, it's easy to track. You can version the rules in the ODM engine itself."

"Offers a unique environment where its entire architecture is very unified""The latest releases of PegaRULES are scalable, advanced, and can be easily integrated into your environment.""We can use the rules as per the class.""The most valuable feature of the product is that it's very customer-centric. It's easy to use for a customer or a user. It's also easy for someone who is developing an application. You can develop different features in just one place. You don't have to go to different places.""They're pretty easy to create, and they're pretty easy to deploy.""The most valuable feature is the ease of deployment.""The visualization of the business process and the collaboration aspects of the solution are its most valuable features.""getNext removes some of the managements overheads as well as inbuilt reporting."

Cons
"The solution's licensing cost needs improvement.""The errors I get from time to time are not easy to debug or easy to understand. They are very vague because if a XOM file is missing or there is a deserialization problem, on the client's side I only get a 500 Internal Server Error. To learn where the problem is, I have to go on the Rule Execution Server and test it myself. The deserialization issue is very vague. The error messages should be more straightforward and easy to understand.""ODM could be improved with better integration with other platforms.""The platform is good. Its footprint is a little heavy. Other than that, the product works great.""If merging could be just like SVN, that would help. It should be a lot simpler. That's the only thing I don't like about ODM, merging from our local computer up to the Decision Server. I feel like it could be a lot easier.""I think it's stable, but if they could beef it up a little bit for bigger businesses, that'd be great, because we have so much in there. We have products that we have to split up because they are too big for it to handle sometimes. But that's just in development, within ODM. Again, processing has been fine, but I wish things were a little bit beefier.""There is some promise of how decisions could take advantage of machine learning and artificial intelligence. That has been slow to develop. It is still not clear where the market will take it, but that is something that I am looking forward to down the road.""Extracting specific rules could be better. We've had to do a lot of custom work on that. The testing, we've played a little bit with it, but we have our own testing methods. If it could be as simple as we have for our custom work, that would be great."

"The usability of the solution for developers is sometimes difficult to work with because instead of fixing the existing bugs in the previous version, there is always a rush to push out a new version leaving the bugs in the old versions unresolved.""User interface needs improvement.""The solution needs to invest more in its technology. For public and private clouds, for example, the development environment is slow. Saving events should take one to two seconds, max, and because you are making changes often, the slowness cuts down on productivity because we have to wait for things to save before continuing.""Customers expect more out-of-the-box solutions.""There is room for potential improvement in the performance of PegaRULES, as well as the need to address any existing security concerns. It should be noted that working with an older version of Pega, rather than the latest 8.x versions, may limit certain capabilities and leave room for vulnerabilities that could benefit from increased attention. Furthermore, the user interface (UI) could be a candidate for enhancements. It is worth mentioning that newer versions of Pega may have introduced improvements in these areas.""The UI has always been the weakest part.""The UI needs improvement.""Implementation is a challenge due to the handling of the code"

  • "In terms of the price, if I were to compare Pega to other tools, it would be more expensive, but it would also provide you with the same features."
  • "They're very cagey in giving out prices, and it is very difficult to find out the real price any organization is going to get. It is almost never their list price, if you can find it, and there are a lot of factors that go into the whole pricing."
  • "Its pricing is on the higher side, but they have come up with different plans and different small products that can be used by smaller organizations that don't have that much money to spend. They have different pricing packages depending on the number of users or depending upon the number of cases created in the production or live environment."
  • "This upgrade process is very expensive; although I haven't been on the sales team responsible for the pricing, I know it costs millions of dollars."
  • "The price of PegaRULES is more expensive than other solutions on the market."
  • "PegaRULES is a good product, but its pricing is a bit on the premium side, especially for professionals."
