Microsoft Virtual Server Room for Improvement

Sometimes, it can cause a lag. It depends on the operating system and the working machine. If your machine is good and has a fast processing time, then maybe you can work on the desktop version easily.

Otherwise, you might find some challenges working on the desktop version because it causes lag.

Even I was using it on my Mac, so it was lagging a bit. I got some references, and then it stopped lagging after that. They asked me to work on a loop, and then it started working on the saving.

Microsoft Virtual Server could be easier to use. Otherwise, it's a good substitute for other virtualization options.

Microsoft Virtual Server has a lot of features like recording manager or failover, which need to be developed since such areas have shortcomings where improvements are required.

The pricing and scalability are areas of the product with shortcomings where improvements are required.

I would like to see an updated version of Microsoft Virtual Server that supports Linux.

We recently updated their special machines to the Linux version of Cybervisor, and we are also using VMware and Dell DXL. These platforms are more efficient than Microsoft Virtual Server, and we no longer carry on with Microsoft.

In the future release, I would like to see more automation. Moreover, improvements related to recovery could be beneficial.

As certain medium-level complexities are involved in the product's setup process, the product's setup phase can be considered for improvement.

In the future releases of the solution, I want the solution to be a more user-friendly UI.

The solution should be more user-friendly and cheaper. It will be charged through databases, which means that when I use the server, I will be charged, but when I don't use the server, I won't be charged. To use a physical server, you need to purchase one at a certain price. After three years, you need to purchase AMC for the server which is a recurring cost. Additionally, there are electricity and maintenance costs. Virtual servers in the cloud can be cheaper than physical servers, especially if the monthly cost is lower. Therefore, many clients and organizations will choose to use virtual servers.

Microsoft Virtual Server has already been improved since Microsoft Fabric is available. Microsoft SQL's data warehouse is available as a component within Microsoft Fabric.

Microsoft Virtual Server's cost was an area of concern. Microsoft Fabric and the shared costing structure have already mitigated the price-related shortcomings of Microsoft Virtual Server.

I feel Microsoft Virtual Server will be stopped in a couple of months or a couple of years, and it will be completely replaced with SQL Server data warehouse and Microsoft Fabric. Microsoft Fabric has unified all the technologies, like real-time analytics, with data warehouses and then with the use of Power BI on top of data warehouses. Microsoft plans to get rid of all the separate components and start pitching Microsoft Fabric as an alternate solution to all its different or related services offered, but it could take some time, and it will not be an overnight switch. The long-term plan for Microsoft is to unify all its services under Microsoft Fabric.

It's evolving so fast here now I don't know whether a guy can stay ahead of what the next thing should be. It's extremely difficult to keep up right now.

Support could always be a bit better. It's integral to a product. If it's not good, you end up shying away from the product itself. You want to feel assured that the company can help you if you run into trouble. Microsoft is beginning to lose popularity as it's becoming extremely hard to get a hold of anyone. It's a problem.

There are no doubts virtual servers can be very useful but there are also several important disadvantages that you should be aware of, With a physical server things are less complicated, you do not have to have expert knowledge in server virtualisation. Some versions of Windows operating systems do no run well on a virtual platform, such as XP and WIndows 2003 - even with integration tools installed. One major problem is - If you have forgotten a password for the only user account on a virtual server, you wont be able to plug in a password reset disk - it will have to rebuilt. (Or restored from a backup if you have one!) View full review »
