What is our primary use case?

All of our machines have Webroot installed on it and actively engage in endpoint protection.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable aspect of the solution is the fact that it is a low profile environment as far as overhead on the machines. It continuously updates automatically. For the most part, to the end-user, it's virtually invisible, and to the admins, it's a low maintenance environment.

What needs improvement?

Tech support needs to be improved. If we have an issue, and we don't have an issue very often, trying to get support's attention is a really difficult endeavor. Their DNS support is underwhelming. There are side portions of their environment that we don't use because it creates more problems than it's worth.

The feature that we would most like to see incorporated is DNS support. At the moment their DNS solution is problematic.

I've been using the solution for about five years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It's a mixed bag. From the software standpoint, it's a fairly secure environment. From a corporate standpoint, it's a significant black hole at the moment.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We've not had any issues with scalability. If an organization needs to expand, they can do so quite easily.

Every user in the company has Webroot installed on their machine From the CEO down, everybody gets it installed on their machine. We're a small company, however. We only have 20 employees. We don't have hundreds or thousands of users. Still, it's used by everyone. In that sense, I don't think we can grow the usage any more than we already have. It is 100% utilized and I'm not sure it can go any higher than that.

How are customer service and support?

Technical support is not the best. It's hard to get a hold of them if we need help. It's something that definitely needs improvement. 

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We've previously used Avast, McAfee, and a couple of other solutions and they all caused problems. When we moved over to Webroot a lot of those issues went away.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup isn't complex. It's relatively straightforward. You just have to install it on the platform. From an admin standpoint, that's the gist. You install it and let it go and then verify it on the dashboard. That's all.

Deployment is very fast. It only takes about two to three minutes.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

I can't recall the exact pricing, but I believe there is a monthly fee of $20-30 per user.

What other advice do I have?

We're just customers. We aren't consultants or resellers.

We're using the most up to date version of the solution. All of our users are geographically diverse, so we're basically all diversely distributed.

At the moment it's a great product. They recently got acquired by Carbonite and I'm still trying to sort out what the fallout is from a corporate standpoint. Otherwise, for the near term, it's a good product. We're just a bit worried due to the fact that we've dealt with other products from Carbonite in the past and it's left a bad taste in our mouth. We're kind of looking around for other options on the assumption that the Carbonite is going to put their touch on this and destroy it like the other solutions.

Currently, as it stands as a product now, I would rate it seven out of ten overall.

What is most valuable?

The ease of use of the centralized admin console is its best asset. Very easy to make deployment a breeze and maintenance of your endpoint users is even easier using the console.

How has it helped my organization?

We have had a few instances where a malware program tried to enter our infrastructure through different means. However, Webroot picked up on it immediately and made us aware of the intrusion, so we could take care of it.

What needs improvement?

It would be great if there was a feature which would allow you to scan an individual file on an endpoint user's computer. As of right now, you can only scan a folder, but it would be good if it allowed you to go even more granular.

For how long have I used the solution?

Two and a half years.

What was my experience with deployment of the solution?

None whatsoever. Very easy deployment.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

None.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

None, it has been very easy adding users as we go when we hire new employees and the company grows.

How are customer service and technical support?

Customer Service:

We were using a couple of different solutions. However, as our company grew quickly, the program became harder to expand to our needs the way we wanted. The price would have been more than what we wanted to spend.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. One simple file to run that had our serial key built into it. It was very quick to install.

What about the implementation team?

In-house deployment.

What was our ROI?

Not applicable.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Please keep in mind that the visibility of what you can do on Mac systems that you might have on your network is much smaller than what you can see and/or do on Windows machines. Granted, this is soon to change. However, as it stands right now, you can't do as much from the admin console for the Mac machines than you can for the Windows ones.

We evaluated Symantec, Sophos, Kaspersky, and AVG.

Previously, we used a mix of Trend/Sophos/Symantec. Webroot has all their best bits in combined into one solution.

Setup was fast and very straightforward, thanks to the training provided.

Implemented using vendor team support, who was very capable.

What was our ROI?

ROI was planned at nine months, with a first stretch target of six months and a second stretch of three months. We completed within three months.

Our strategy was to overestimate the complexity and cost. It turned out that Webroot's assurance was justified.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Constant evaluations, usually because of new support to other legacy systems, which included mostly Sophos and Trend, both of which are good tools, too.

What other advice do I have?

Training was excellent.

What is our primary use case?

Monitoring of supported customer sites for issues and remediation.  A number of Doctors offices, and a scattering of other professionals like Lawyers and Training organizations.  Most of these sites are controlled through Active Directory policies and Webroot fits nicely as a one-stop console solution for monitoring of infections.

How has it helped my organization?

I can provide monitored antivirus solutions that are relatively inexpensive to business, in bulk, and the add-on for monitoring (i.e. my labor) is relatively light.

What is most valuable?

  • Good scanning
  • Very light footprint
  • Management console that the client can access and (just as important) in which I can see status of groups of computers (I am a consultant, IT role)
  • Price

What needs improvement?

The console spins up relatively slowly, and some of the configuration items are obscure (e.g., reporting back one time per day is a default setting) and need to be tweaked.

No issues with stability.

Not yet. I'm running a very small-scale service (less than 100 computers currently).

How are customer service and technical support?

Excellent.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I used the Kaspersky equivalent, but the footprint for Webroot is smaller, the console is more intuitive and, unfortunately, Kaspersky has been smeared by Russian/American politics.

How was the initial setup?

Incredibly simple. Register, download and run. (Back to the Kaspersky model last used 2015). It runs pretty much straight out of the box, and deployment is simple.

What was our ROI?

It is a little harder to calculate ROI because I don't think of it in that manner (not a MBA);  
I don't markup the product very much, but it increases customer retention significantly and reduces *surprise* labor overhead.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

If you purchase for clients, then you are the managing billing entity. It's better to either get a monthly subscription check from your clients, or to prepay for the year (so as to not keep cash in reserve to pay the bill each month) IMHO.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Kaspersky, Norton, Sophos.

What other advice do I have?

Setup two-factor for the admin console, give "manager" clients access to their own consoles (good PR), and keep a set of shortcut links to the pre-configured install images for each client (if you are using that model). Otherwise, you have to login to download a crafted version for the account, and that sometimes (compromised network) is not a good idea (reveals credentials).

I have been dealing with Webroot Business Endpoint Protection for about two years. 

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Webroot is scalable. The policies that we created were at the MSP level, and as we added more clients. Those clients just utilized the MSP policy that we had created once in a while, but it was probably a rarity and not the norm. You could also create client-level policies.

How are customer service and technical support?

Webroot's tech support is pretty good. It was like one issue that we really had problems with, and it really wasn't their fault. They were good at trying to help us with it, but it really came down to a conflict with a client's plugin, which was used for web filtering. 

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Trend Micro many years ago, and then it wasn't doing great. We looked around and found another company that I think is out of business now. Next, we transitioned to Viper, and from there, we moved to Webroot. Now we're beginning to move to Sentinel One, as the keys keep moving, and we can try and move with it finding the best solutions for our clients.

The hardest thing about going to Webroot was that you didn't really have any way to really have any third party that was actually testing these antivirus products to understand whether it was false positive or whether it did great. You didn't really have that much, and not many of them actually tested Webroot because it didn't really fall into the same category as all the other products that were out at the time. 

Sentinel One is truly looking at not just every process but exactly what it's doing and what it's touching. Truly not just journaling, but whatever it does, it's keeping track of all the changes, and they can actually roll them back.

We actually just had three incidents that we have seen since we started using Sentinel One. This one happened three or four days ago, and it was a false positive. But Sentinel wants to sense the way the package was designed. It had every appearance of being malicious because the way it was acting was like a malicious function.

That's the only false positive we've seen so far, and if it was a weird one too. Whoever sent it never should have sent something in that type of package. Before that, we had to locked-down the machine.

That's what Sentinel One will do when there are attacks, ransomware, or some malicious activity that can be detrimental to the data and the network. It literally locks that machine down, and users can't access anything on the network. The computer can't access anything on the network except for the Sentinel One dashboard.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward. I think we spent about a couple of hours on the phone with their support nailing down the right settings for our various categories of machines, and we broke down the machines and added policies for our general servers. 

Here's a policy for our RDS and Citrix servers. Here's a policy for general workstations. Here's another policy for engineering, chat, or graphic design machines because they tend to need slightly more or slightly less restrictive settings. We had to put together five or six different base-level policies. Once they were gathered, there were some white lists added at different times. 

What other advice do I have?

On a scale from one to ten, I would give Webroot Business Endpoint Protection an eight.

The only reason I've dropped it down now is that they're just not including the additional items like Sentinel One. They haven't added ransomware and TrueBlue artificial intelligence, and those kinds of things. If they build those into it, they would be able to pump it back up again.

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for its endpoint protection. We used it as a firewall and antivirus.

What is most valuable?

The solution is very light.

It works well on our PCs.

The dashboard is very good.

We find the pricing to be very affordable.

We've had some issues with the solution. We were attacked by CryptoLock.

It's not the best in security. As we were breached, we'll be looking for a new solution next year.

We need to have a stronger defense against CryptoLock and other attackers.

The solution is very stable. We find it to be quite reliable in that it doesn't crash or freeze and it doesn't have bugs or glitches.

The solution is scalable. We haven't had issues with this aspect of the solution. If an organization needs to expand the solution, they can do so.

At this point, we have about 60 users on the product.

How are customer service and technical support?

I don't like technical support very much. We seem to have to wait a long time to get a response from them, which is unacceptable. We're not satisfied at all with the level of support they offer our organization.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup is not complex at all. It's very straightforward.

The deployment took a couple of months.

What about the implementation team?

We used an integrator reseller that assisted us with the implementation process. We were satisfied with how they worked with us.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution doesn't cost too much. It's about 30 Euros a year for each endpoint. It's pretty affordable for us and for many other companies.

What other advice do I have?

We're just a cutomer. We don't have a business relationship with the company.

As we are using the cloud deployment model, we are always on the latest version of the solution.

I don't recommend the solution to others. It didn't protect us in the way we needed to and an attack was able to get through their defenses.

Overall, I would rate the solution six out of ten. We haven't had a very good experience with it.
