We performed a comparison between Oracle Data Integrator (ODI), SSIS, and TIBCO Scribe based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out what your peers are saying about Microsoft, Informatica, Oracle and others in Data Integration."I do not have to maintain a separate ETL instance. I can change the SQL when something is not performing correctly."
"The Knowledge Module approach provides an easy and reusable way to create our own integration strategies. It's easy to create these Knowledge Modules to connect to new technologies, for instance."
"The product has an ELT approach."
"ODI's most valuable features are it utilizes the database engine and is very lightweight."
"Easy to understand, very developer-friendly, and has a big forum community and lots of documentation for support."
"ODI significantly improves data integration and management by allowing customization of data types from various sources like SQL Server databases."
"The solution's initial setup is straightforward, especially compared to Mule, which our team has worked with before and found to be a bit more complex in terms of setup."
"ODI is a very accessible tool, especially since the mapping functionality has been added."
"The solution is stable."
"SSIS provides you with lookup and transformation functions, and you have the flexibility to write your own custom code."
"SSIS' best feature is SFTP connectivity."
"The performance is good."
"It is easy to set up the solution."
"The most valuable aspect of this solution is that it is simple to use and it offers a flexible custom script task."
"You can get data from any data source with SSIS and dump it to any outside source. It is helpful. Getting, extracting, converting, and dumping data doesn't require much effort because we can do everything in the user interface. You drag and drop, then give the required input. It's intuitive."
"We can connect with multiple data sources easily using an external connector in SSIS."
"The most valuable feature of TIBCO Scribe is the connectors available to various products."
"If you have something like Cisco on top of it, you will have endless problems."
"I rate it a seven out of 10 because there is room for growth because ODI is still new, in comparison to Informatica, which is a mature product."
"The price needs to be lowered. It's too expensive."
"It has been very good. Just recently, I've faced an issue, but I solved it somehow. While integrating with a file, I faced an issue where I wanted output files, and I had used the text field limited quotations, but at the end of the file, there was a line breakage for the last column. So, we just removed the text field because it was not working correctly for us."
"In our company, we haven't tried consuming services from IoT in our company yet, and I would like to know if the solution will support IoT services in the next release."
"The tool should improve its pricing. It prevents the application of Oracle ODI on small and medium projects in countries like Croatia, Germany, or the US. While there are no technological obstacles to using it, the high price makes it unfeasible for projects with smaller budgets."
"There are certain things where it can be improved. Initial solution setup seems a bit complex at the start, it should be improved because it becomes bit tough for a novice to get started on this. Sometimes error description is not helpful to understand the problem it gives some generic type of errors which are at times not that helpful to understand the underlying root cause of the issue."
"I would only point out some minor bugs or glitches in the development interface (ODI studio)."
"We've had issues in terms of the amount of data that is transferred when we are scheduling."
"SSIS is cumbersome despite its drag-and-drop functionality. For example, let's say I have 50 tables with 30 columns. You need to set a data type for each column and table. That's around 1,500 objects. It gets unwieldy adding validation for every column. Previously, SSIS automatically detected the data type, but I think they removed this feature. It would automatically detect if it's an integer, primary key, or foreign key column. You had fewer problems building the model."
"We'd like them to develop data exploration more."
"SSIS can improve by the minimum code requirements in stored procedures and exporting data is difficult. They could make it easier, it should be as easy as it is to import data."
"The solution could improve on integrating with other types of data sources."
"Sometimes when we want to publish to other types of databases it's not easy to publish to those databases. For example, the Jet Database Engine. Before the SSIS supported Jet Database Engine but nowadays it doesn't support the Jet Database Engine. We connect to many databases such as Access database, SparkPros databases and the other types of databases using Jet Database Engines now and SSIS now doesn't seem to support it in our databases."
"In terms of its performance, it could be better. That could be something that would be easy and welcomed as an upgrade."
"I would like to see better technical documentation because many times information is missing."
"The solution should provide better documentation and scenario-based samples."
