Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It has good data integration and good processes.""The initial setup was easy.""The simplicity of the solution is great. The solution also offers excellent integration.""It is easy to set up the product.""It's saved time using visualization descriptions.""The solution is stable.""It is easily scheduled and integrates well with SQL Server and SQL Server Agent jobs.""Like most Microsoft products, SSIS is user-friendly and easy to use."

"We use the solution to develop applications.""It is a very robust system.""The initial setup of TIBCO BusinessWorks was straightforward since we have used the solution in our organization for a long time.""The solution is stable. We haven't had any serious technical issues.""XML to JSON transformations, out-of-the-box, helps to build REST services.""The most important thing is that it is easy for developers to work with.""The most valuable features are the stability and the time to market.""The solution is very scalable. It can handle a lot. We have encryption plus integration servers running on that platform currently."

More TIBCO BusinessWorks Pros →

"I found the initial setup very easy.""WhereScape's deployment package is a fantastic feature. The application allows for selecting specific objects that you would like to deploy from one environment to another rather than deploying the entire database.""I like the data vault implementations.""Their support staff are very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. I feel their support staff go above and beyond to assure their customers are satisfied.""RED has provided us the ability to integrate, stage, and transform data from diverse sources into an enterprise-grade data warehouse which meets the needs of my organization, but it also enables us to easily and quickly make ETL or DW changes.""WhereScape RED has improved our business's ability to generate needed reporting without requiring a large team of developers to manually code all of the necessary plumbing.""The most valuable feature is the metadata generated code.""Naturally produces a way to easily debug your DW data solutions."

Cons
"The solution could improve by having quicker release updates.""Performance could be better.""I would like to see more features in terms of the integration with Azure Data Factory.""We'd like them to develop data exploration more.""Microsoft should offer an on-premises support warranty for those using that deployment. They seem to be withdrawing from on-premises options.""We're in the process of switching to Informatica, and we need to work out data lineage and data profiling and to improve the quality of our data. SSIS, however, is not that compatible with Informatica. We managed to connect it to Informatica Metadata Manager, but we don't get good lineage, so we have to redo all our ETLs using the Informatica process in order to accept the proper data lineage.""We've had issues in terms of the amount of data that is transferred when we are scheduling.""The performance of SSIS could improve when comparing it to Oracle Database."

More SSIS Cons →

"Improve Business Studio's stability to further minimize development time.""Technical support is average. It's not the best.""They don't support out of the box - you have to buy adapters or you have to have the technology.""I'd like to see a new cloud approach in the next release. They need to work on integrations, stability and management issues on their cloud platform.""The container-based image is too large and this makes auto-scaling difficult.""Its price can be improved. For medium enterprises, it is a very expensive tool. In the market, you won't get many resources for this solution. You won't find many developers in the market very easily. The latest version of TIBCO (6.4 or 6.x) is not very stable. It has got many issues. We have raised this with TIBCO, and they are taking a lot of time to come up with a fix, which is making us move away from this product. Some of the performance-tuning aspects are also missing in version 6. They should provide performance-related fixes, which will be helpful for the customers. If you are migrating from the current version to the container-supported version, it is quite expensive. The product has evolved, but it is very pricey. That's one of the challenges. They have provided all the features that are there in other products, but this is a platform upgrade. The platform has completely been changed from 5.x to 6.x, and we can't use the same environment. We can't run both versions on the same server as VM. The development environment is entirely different. In version 5.x, there was a proprietary designer. Now, it has common plug-ins developed on top of Eclipse.""Scaling with the solution is costly because if we need to scale up, we have to buy more memory. That means more money. Solutions like Camel or Pulsar come with built-in options to scale horizontally, vertically, region-wide or country-wide.""This solution's cloud could be improved. I don't know whether it was because we didn't have the internal expertise or if it was the product itself, but since they came later—I think only two or three years into the cloud—after many other iPaaS that had been in the cloud for longer, I feel that maybe they haven't matured in terms of the cloud."

More TIBCO BusinessWorks Cons →

"Jobs cannot be deleted via the deployment package. When deploying from dev to QA or production, a job has to be retired. The job has to be manually removed from the target environment.""The scheduled jobs which are run by the WhereScape scheduler seem to be a strangely separate animal. Unlike all other WhereScape objects, jobs cannot be added to WhereScape projects. Also, unlike all other objects, jobs also cannot be deleted using a WhereScape deployment application.""Improve the object renaming ability (it works, but it could be more automated).""The solution can be a little more user-friendly on enterprise-level where people use it.""Technical support isn't the best.""They need a more robust support center. It has been a bit difficult to find solutions to problems that are out-of-the-box.""Customization could be better.""The ability to execute SSIS projects within WhereScape would be nice because we have a lot of packages that are too cumbersome to recreate."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "This solution has provided an inexpensive tool, and it is easy to find experienced developers."
  • "My advice is to look at what your configuration will be because most companies have their own deals with Microsoft."
  • "This solution is included with the MSSQL server package."
  • "It would be beneficial if the solution had a less costly cloud offering."
  • "Based on my experience and understanding, Talend comes out to be a little bit expensive as compared to SSIS. The average cost of having Talend with Talend Management Console is around 72K per region, which is much higher than SSIS. SSIS works very well with Microsoft technologies, and if you have Microsoft technologies, it is not really expensive to have SSIS. If you have SQL Server, SSIS is free."
  • "We have an enterprise license for this solution."
  • "It comes bundled with other solutions, which makes it difficult to get the price on the specific product."
  • "All of my clients have this product included as part of their Microsoft license."
  • More SSIS Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "My understanding is that the licensing is very costly."
  • "It is a bit expensive for medium-sized companies. If you are migrating from the current version to the container-supported version, it is quite expensive. The existing licensing will not work because the product platform itself is different."
  • "Its price policy has changed quite a lot in the last two years. It was extremely expensive previously. Nowadays, you can buy a license for BusinessWorks for €2000. Looking at what you get in return in terms of support, TIBCO community, and stability, it is fairly reasonable. It is not too expensive."
  • "I think BusinessWorks is more expensive compared to other products. We have the ELA, so at least we have some sort of bargain or discount with that. But for a start-up, it's very expensive compared to other ESBs."
  • "Licensing scheme is too rigid"
  • "I don't have the prices of the products, but I know that TIBCO is not a cheap solution. I think that this solution is more suitable for large companies because I don't think that small- or medium-sized companies would have the money for this solution. WSO2 has the community version for free, so many of the smaller companies can use it. I'm not sure what the prices are for support, though, so I suppose the support for WSO2 is not cheap either."
  • "The solution is too expensive. It's one of the most expensive solutions out there, particularly because there are so many open-source competitors on the market. I don't know the exact numbers, however."
  • "I give the cost of the solution a four out of ten."
  • More TIBCO BusinessWorks Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Factor in the price of specialized consulting who know this product. They're hard to find and expensive."
  • "ROI is at least 10 times."
  • "Speed to market of a warehouse solution at a relatively inexpensive price point."
  • "Our company purchased a corporate unlimited license."

Technology has made it easier for businesses to organize and manipulate data to get a clearer picture of what’s going on with their business. Notably, ETL tools have made managing huge amounts of data significantly easier and faster, boosting many organizations’ business intelligence operations There are many third-party vendors offering ETL solutions, but two of the most popular are PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). Each technology has its advantages but there are also similarities on how they carry out the extract-transform-load processes and only differ in terminologies. If you’re in the process of choosing ETL tools and PowerCenter Informatica and Microsoft SSIS made it to your shortlist, here is a short comparative discussion detailing the differences between the two, as well as their benefits. Package Configuration Most enterprise data integration projects would require the capacity to develop a solution in one platform and test and deploy it in a separate environment without having to manually change the established workflow. In order to achieve this seamless movement between two environments, your ETL technology should allow the dynamic update of the project’s properties using the content or a parameter file or configuration. Both Informatica and SSIS support this functionality using different methodologies. In Informatica, every session can have more than one source and one or more destination connections. There are… Read more →
