Bitbucket Initial Setup
Setting up BitBucket is fairly straightforward. It has its own APIs, and it's easy to access. Everything is in the cloud.

Bitbucket is a kind of binary we have installed on our on-prem server, which can also be installed on cloud-based EC2 instances. Installing the binary on the on-prem server is not very difficult, but we need a separate administration team to take care of maintenance activity. Suppose the organization has 400 users on Bitbucket. In that case, we need a dedicated team to take care of administration and maintenance as a role-based kind of thing, taking care of plugin upgrades, such as the Jira-Bitbucket and the Jenkins-Bitbucket plugin. We need a dedicated team to handle these sorts of integration plugins.

The product's initial setup phase experience was good.
The implementation is pretty straightforward because there is not much you can do with the Bitbucket since it can be described as more of a repository-oriented tool.
The solution is deployed on the cloud.
The solution can be deployed in a week.

I would rate Bitbucket's setup an eight out of ten since we had a lot of documentation available. We completed the tool's deployment over three to four months. We had a small team of two to four guys to help us with the deployment. One person is enough to handle the product's maintenance.

The initial setup is not very complex. It took us about a week, perhaps less.
In the initial setup, you definitely need to be a developer or system administrator. I do not think it is for the faint of heart. You have to set up the reverse proxy and the DNS, so it is accessible from the outside world and make sure all the JVM settings are correct.
The initial setup for Bitbucket was straightforward. The process was similar to deploying GitHub and GitLab, based on Git technology. We have various tools available, such as SourceTree or Visual Studio Code, which can seamlessly integrate with the product. I prefer using Git Bash for command-line operations. However, many others in our team utilize Visual Studio Code, which provides a user-friendly interface for running commands.
View full review »The initial setup is not very complex on the technical side for us because developers, programmers, and operations people have a good idea of how to set up these things. You just need to know the audience using this type of application. Mainly, the audience would be system admins or developers who are technically enabled, so they don't face many hurdles or problems while working with the application.

The first upload of our project was in 2015. I uploaded that code. It wasn't very hard to use the solution or do the deployment. Some of the configuration is not as easy or as good as it could be. The system has changed, but since the implementation, I have made no changes in three years.

Bitbucket's initial setup is easy.
View full review »Bitbucket's Initial setup is a little complicated because you need to install and configure the solution. It can take one or two days to deploy Bitbucket. If you have a high workload, you can deploy it on multiple server farms as needed.
The vendor is maintaining Bitbucket. We have one staff member responsible for the configuration, but we consult the vendor for patching and upgrades.
View full review »The initial setup is very simple - you use the web interface to create a repository, then receive a link and use it in your SourceTree client, and then you're connected. This is why I prefer Bitbucket to GitLab, because it's totally integrated and works with Jira, so everything is inside the same realm.

The initial setup of Bitbucket can be complex. It depends on what you are using it for. For example, when I was using Jenkins I had to set up a lot of scripts to link all the tasks together for it to run automatically.

The setup was kind of complex. We started out with some simple examples and that was easy enough. But then when we went to migrate real code repositories, we had to get into what they call large file storage, which was complex to set up.
The deployment took about a month with a small focus group and I would say it probably took two or three months to get everybody comfortable using it.

I was not part of the initial implementation team. We have a DevOps team in our company, so they set it up and once it was ready, it was rolled out to the development teams with a ready-to-use config. What we did, as far as deployment goes, is move our code from a legacy version control system to a new version control system. That experience was straightforward for me as a developer.
The initial setup was relatively fast. It took us about three days to migrate a small-to-medium-sized application from the legacy version control system to Bitbucket, for example.
View full review »The initial setup was a little bit complex. It requires more intervention on the Linux console than the other Atlassian products. You need to adjust more files, for example.
It took us about a month to deploy and three people were involved in the process. Only one person is required for maintenance because it is generally maintained by Atlassian.

View full review »Because it's a cloud version, we did not need to do any kind of setup with it. We initially started using the trial version of it for 30 days. We created some repositories and started accessing it. Later on, we bought the Enterprise version of it. There were no issues, as such, in setting it up.
