We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"This solution gives us quite good insights that we might otherwise overlook, or it might take a really long time to debug those issues.""The event alerting feature or the trigger system is what I like most about AppDynamics Server Monitoring. Whenever an issue occurs, the tool automatically generates an even trigger that tells engineers in the company to take action, so it's an essential feature of AppDynamics Server Monitoring. Another valuable feature of the tool is end-to-end monitoring, which means if you need to debug, you can go transaction by transaction, where the issue lies, and how it's linked. For example, if it's a low-performance issue, you can look into it more through AppDynamics Server Monitoring in terms of which area takes too much time to execute. You can also see the SQL queries and the kind of query going on through the tool.""It is a stable solution. Stability-wise, I don't see any problems in the solution...The solution's technical support was good.""The solution offers great visibility that allows you to track where errors originated.""The platform is reliable in identifying the core system issues.""What I like most about AppDynamics Server Monitoring is that it's easy to manipulate and easy to implement. All solutions have the same features, but what sets AppDynamics Server Monitoring apart is that it's really quick to implement. AppDynamics Server Monitoring has a great interface. As a developer, it doesn't matter whether it's SolarWinds, Dynatrace, or any APM you're using, but it would matter to the customer. A product must be easy to manipulate or use, for example, AppDynamics Server Monitoring, for the customer, but for developers like my team, there's no pressure, even if a solution requires coding.""Setting up the monitoring agents was straightforward.""The auto-discovery of the logs is the most valuable feature. It requires minimal configuration, we just need to set up on once and it automatically detects through the code."

"Alert calls occur anytime a service goes down or a matrix is difficult and that helps us to quickly restore service and transfer work.""Nagios Core is very configurable. Whatever you want, you can do it.""Other products are good but from the configuration point of view Nagios is really very lightweight. The price is really good in my opinion. Another important thing is that my Nagios engine still works with Dual core 8GB ram for the last 10 years.""Dashboard provides monitor of total assets.""The most valuable feature of Nagios Core is it allows us to develop and add as many plugins as we want.""The most valuable features are the reports and the way it generates the report in a graphical manner.""Nagios Core is stable.""The most valuable feature is the performance parameters of the system."

Cons
"I could not find a user-friendly interface for querying, and analytics sometimes gives the wrong results...I feel that analytics could have been better in searching and running the analytical queries.""The solution has performance issues after we deploy the agent.""The configuration is tricky and requires a lot of tools.""The product’s dashboard could be more easy to implement.""The one thing that I find it difficult in using AppDynamics is, for any new user, it's not easy for him or her to configure the transactions in AppDynamics because the UI is pretty complex. The configuration is pretty complex for a new, fresh user. They can make the UI simpler, that'll be very helpful for anyone to configure their website in AppDynamics.""AppDynamics Server Monitoring has room for improvement in terms of pricing. If the price could be cheaper, it would be great for both the customer and the integrator. What I'd like to see in the next release of AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a better dashboard for the customer. The dashboard should be more interactive.""The solution could be more mobile friendly.""If we consider the implementation of alternative solutions, such as Dynatrace, there is a notable difference in the approach to agent-based service monitoring. For instance, Dynatrace employs a single-agent solution, which can pose security concerns. When installing Dynatrace, granting the agent ld pro payload rights is a requirement. In contrast, our solution ensures a more secure approach by not requiring root and administration access. While we currently utilize an agent-based solution, there may be a shift in the next one or two years, possibly with the adoption of Open Telemetry. It's anticipated that many APM vendors, including Dynatrace, may alter their structure or strategy for implementation. However, as of now, the trend is towards an increasing number of implementations daily."

"The initial setup process could be easier.""Nagios Core can improve the graphical interface, it would make things a little easier.""Bandwidth monitoring is the pain point for me because Nagios Core does not monitor bandwidth effectively like Cacti does.""Cloud monitoring is an area for improvement because there aren't too many plugins available.""The core version is no match for the XI version.""Would benefit from aggregations if a particular server goes down.""I would like to see more training videos.""There is room for improvement in the graphics."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "My understanding is that the price of this solution is quite high, compared to other products."
  • "The pricing for AppDynamics Server Monitoring in Africa and the Middle East is too expensive, so it's very hard to sell it to customers. If there could be different pricing or package for the region, that would be great. My company pays for the license of AppDynamics Server Monitoring on a per-agent, per-server basis. It's $700 to $1000 per server, and it's paid annually. My company is on a subscription model for the solution. On a scale of one to five, where one is expensive and five is cheap, my rating for the price of AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a two."
  • "The solution has a high cost."
  • "AppDynamics Server Monitoring is a very expensive product, but if you negotiate well, you get value for money...My company used to make early payments toward the licensing costs of the solution, but now my company has opted for a different licensing model."
  • "The tool is expensive."

  • "Nagios Core is free to use."
  • "Lessening the price point would be an improvement."
