Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The implementation and training are all done through the sales engineer, which provides for a seamless and great experience when it comes to starting with a new vendor.""It's completely reliable and easy to restore.""Its most valuable feature is its ransomware protection, so it has immutable backups.""The most valuable features are the rapid VM restores and the ability to quickly find files and download them directly to my desktop so that I can put them where I need them to be.""Cohesity DataProtect is easy to deploy and operate.""We can run test scripts on production data.""We are saving valuable datacenter rack space, which is critical as we evaluate co-location options.""It makes our administrators' lives much easier to combine backup, archiving, and services like hosting file shares in one central system with only one user interface."

"While the challenges posed by the difficulties were significant, they prompted the replacement of problematic components, resulting in the resolution of issues. Importantly, there were no substantial ongoing concerns. Regarding the overall performance, it has been consistently excellent.""I am impressed with the tool's technical alliance with Veeam and Veritas."

Cons
"Physical RDMs on virtual machines could be a bit easier to configure and plan out.""A little more documentation on standard faults would help, as new features are being released quite often.""We are highly dissatisfied with the level of support and functionality provided for HANA within the Cohesity product.""Cohesity DataProtect takes hours to restore a single file, even a small one.""Add the ability to delete View Boxes and External Targets in the GUI.""Many of the reports are basic, at most, and at times we had to open a support ticket to help find or develop a report for our needs.""Cohesity DataProtect can improve in the area of databases. We have had some challenges with both Cohesity and Rubrik being able to effectively back up in a timely manner the SQL Oracle workloads.""I would like to see the management of multiple nodes inside a tenant. If you want to manage a Cohesity environment, you either go on a per-node base, and you can hop from one node to the other, or you need to implement their SaaS capability but it always needs an internet connection. We would really like to have some kind of local management entity so that we can see all the Cohesity nodes in a customer environment and manage those nodes centrally. That's something that we would really like, and they are really working on it."

More Cohesity DataProtect Cons →

"The product needs to improve performance while scaling out. It also needs to improve stability.""Perhaps the most notable area for enhancement lies in the web interface for management. The current limitations in LDAP editing capabilities are not addressed in the UI, and I haven't observed any recent updates. It's possible that the new version of the DXI service incorporates improvements in the GUI, but I cannot confirm. While there is room for improvement in the current GUI, it remains a relatively minor issue. Overall, the system is comprehensive, covering aspects such as reports on latency and networking, leaving little room for additional enhancements in those areas."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Licensing is per node and per protected terabyte. You will also pay 10-15% annually for support."
  • "If SQL is in heavy use at your location, I would highly recommend narrowing your PoC testing to Cohesity and Rubrik. They will be competitive on pricing with each other, so really put them through the paces."
  • "The ROI is huge. Not really measurable at this point, but the price of the unit was a fraction of what a couple hours of downtime could result in."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price."
  • "Cohesity came in at the best price. Setup was included and done in half a day."
  • "Ensure that you understand the per TB licensing model. Also, Exchange backups are not native to Cohesity and require Kroll."
  • "We purchased support from Cohesity to ensure that should we face an issue, we don't have to deal with different service providers."
  • "With respect to pricing, make sure that you look at both Rubrik and Cohesity as they are very similar and are quite competitive."
  • More Cohesity DataProtect Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "I do not oversee this aspect, as pricing is contingent on factors such as volume, technical specifications, and the desired features. Consequently, I lack information on the pricing details and structure."
