We performed a comparison between Cohesity DataProtect and Veeam Backup Replication based on our users’ reviews in five categories. After reading all of the collected data, you can find our conclusion below.
Comparison Results: Both products received high marks from users. However, Cohesity DataProtect users found deployment to be easier, and consider it to be more affordable than do users of Veeam Backup Replication.
"Cohesity DataProtect is more of a unified solution, which is also trying to expand for ransomware protection."
"The dashboard is very easy to use."
"Backups are quick and painless to set up."
"I have found that the speed of restores, especially files and folders, are extremely fast. This bodes well for us, and our end users are always amazed at how fast you can get them their files."
"After linking a cloud subscription, like Azure for example (AWS and Google are also supported), you can "spin" a VM onto the cloud from any backup snapshot."
"The dashboard is very rich and provides details needed for a moderator."
"The most valuable feature is ease of use."
"It makes our administrators' lives much easier to combine backup, archiving, and services like hosting file shares in one central system with only one user interface."
"It helps with process restoration. With Veeam, we never had backup or restoration issues."
"The pricing of the solution is fair."
"The features that I have found most valuable are its ease of management, it is not complicated, it is very reliable, has good support and a lot of knowledge on the market for integrators."
"This solution is very flexible and user-friendly — it's very good. It's very good with our virtual and physical infrastructure."
"The most valuable feature is the instant recovery."
"The good thing about Veeam is that its initial setup and usage are straightforward."
"Veeam Is very useful for most environments and can scale up in most environments - such as Amazon or Azure."
"Provides lots of reporting and visualization of how much data has been transferred."
"Initial setup can be complex if you need to change IP addresses. Hopefully, they improve that in a future release."
"The platform has certain limitations, mostly stemming from the restrictions imposed by the VMware API and some other factors. One area where there is room for improvement is the tracking of replicated copies, especially in the context of remote archive duplication."
"The solution has a more complex setup than Veritas and Veeam."
"Physical RDMs on virtual machines could be a bit easier to configure and plan out."
"In terms of the product itself, there have been a handful of patches that have had to be applied outside of the GUI via the command line. It's very straightforward and easy and in the same redundant fashion, but not quite as simple as one or two clicks. I'm hoping that will decrease going forward."
"Reporting is one area that isn't as robust as it could be."
"The product is still young and is continually improving. There have been a couple of buggy releases in the software that have caused us minor issues, so possibly some better QA before releasing would prove to be useful. We have also been inquiring about new app and functionality via the Marketplace that was teased months back but has yet to come to fruition."
"The tool could benefit from further improvements in AI features, particularly in areas such as a generative AI chat interface. This feature could help answer queries about the data being protected. One feature that would greatly improve our experience with the product is the ability to identify data redundancies through a central console. This feature would help us reduce storage costs by managing redundant data."
"The integration with other solutions should be improved."
"There is some complexity we have experienced when using the solution that should be simplified."
"The physical server backups and direct storage connectivity need improvement."
"I would want them to improve some technical features that are still missing because we are working with NetApp NVMe and they're not fully supporting it yet. But both NetApp and Veeam know about it and they're working on it."
"The cloud backups from Veeam Backup Replication have not been good. Addiotnaally, the backups of Office 365 and the overall performance can always be improved."
"We're using both Backup and Replication, Veeam Cloud Connect, and Veeam Office 365. What I am missing is a good graphical user interface between these three products."
"Veeam Backup & Replication should include a cloud solution."
"Even though the speed has improved over the years, I think that there are some instances where it still takes a while."
