We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
"When it comes to the integration among Cisco tools, we find it easy. It's a very practical integration with other components as well."
"The customer service/technical support is very good with this solution."
"One of the most valuable features is the AMP. It's very good and very reliable when it comes to malicious activities, websites, and viruses."
"The most valuable feature that Cisco Firepower NGFW provides for us is the Intrusion policy."
"A good intrusion prevention system and filtering."
"The solution offers very easy configurations."
"I have access to the web version of Cisco Talos to see the reputation of IP addresses. I find this very helpful. It provides important information for my company to obtain the reputation of IP addresses. The information in Talos is quite complete."
"Another benefit has been user integration. We try to integrate our policies so that we can create policies based on active users. We can create policies based on who is accessing a resource instead of just IP addresses and ports."
"It is a complete package, and it has complete offerings. It fit the needs, and our customer is happy with it."
"The standard features, including the filtering, are quite good. All the basic features are pretty useful for us."
"Fortinet FortiGate-VM is easy to use."
"I have worked on some of the largest and smallest solutions that Fortinet sells and they all scale really well."
"The most valuable features are locking applications from in and out of my test network and testing malware on different devices. I use malware detection, antivirus, and basic firewall policies to check for different types of security breaches. The UI is really nice and easy to use."
"The most valuable feature is the UTM, which gives them an advantage over other firewalls."
"Its interface is good. It comes with a lot of features, and its performance is also very good."
"Its performance is adequate. We are quite satisfied with its performance. The fact that it is a complete ecosystem with all kinds of integrations is valuable. It did take us a couple of months to get a grip on the new software, but all in all, it replaced our on-premise and single-point solution environment."
"The solution can scale well."
"This is a capable appliance and the standard features work well for us."
"Its interface is sometimes is a little bit slow, and it can be improved. When you need to put your appliance in failover mode, it is a little difficult to do it remotely because you need to turn off the appliance in Cisco mode. In terms of new features, it would be good to have AnyConnect VPN with Firepower. I am not sure if it is available at the moment."
"The performance should be improved."
"The Firepower FTD code is missing some old ASA firewalls codes. It's a small thing. But Firepower software isn't missing things that are essential, anymore."
"The price and SD-WAN capabilities are the areas that need improvement."
"Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall can be more secure."
"In a future release, it would be ideal if they could offer an open interface to other security products so that we could easily connect to our own open industry standard."
"Web filtering needs improvement because sometimes the URL is miscategorized."
"FirePOWER does a good job when it comes to providing us with visibility into threats, but I would like to see a more proactive stance to it."
"Technical support could be improved."
"The price is problematic."
"FortiGate should be more customer friendly and budgeted better."
"The user interface could be improved."
"Not a ten because I think that Cisco is better."
"The technical support is not very responsive and is an area that needs to be improved."
"To improve FortiGate-VM, Fortinet needs to harden it more. For example, if you are using Hyper-V, then you need guidelines for hardening FortiGate-VM that are specific to the Hyper-V environment. If it's VMware, there should be at least a guideline on how to harden the firewall."
"FortiGate-VM could be improved by making it cloud-based. I'd like it to be a cloud-based management solution instead of just a dedicated management orchestration tool."
"Sometimes it reboots when you least expect it, and that's the main issue."
"Although manageable, the user interface is a little bit slow and could be improved."
"I am happy with the product in general, including the pricing."
"Cisco pricing is premium. However, they gave us a 50 to 60 percent discount."
"When we are fighting against other competitors for customers, whether it is a small or big business, we feel very comfortable with the price that Firepower has today."
"I like the Smart Licensing, because it is more dynamic and easier to keep track of where you are at. If we have a high availability firewall pair and they are deployed in active/standby rather than active/active, I would expect that we would only pay for one set of licenses because you are using only one firewall at any one time. The other is there just for resiliency. The licensing, from a Firepower perspective, still requires you to have two licenses, even if the firewalls are in active/standby, which means that you pay for the two licenses, even though you might only be using one firewall any one time. This is probably not the best way to do it and doesn't represent the best value for money. This could be looked at to see if it could be done in a fairer way."
"Cisco, as we all know, is expensive, but for the money you are paying, you know that you are also getting top-notch documentation as well as support if needed."
"For me, personally, as an individual, Cisco Firepower NGFW Firewall is expensive."
"Its price is in the middle range. Both Firepower and FortiGate are not cheap. Palo Alto and Check Point are the cheapest ones. I don't remember any costs in addition to the standard licensing fees."
"The solution was chosen because of its price compared to other similar solutions."
"With Fortinet FortiGate-VM you can bring your own licensing, or it can be paid on a yearly basis."
"The price of this product is great compared to others."
"There is a support fee that can be bought on a yearly or two-yearly basis. I don't think they do five years. The best benefit is that the same pricing is guaranteed for that duration. If you can afford it, I would recommend using the longest possible time span."
"There are no additional costs beyond the standard fee."
"Of all the firewalls that we compared, FortiGate is the cheapest and most affordable, so we are satisfied with the pricing."
"We are on an annual license for this solution and it could be cheaper."
"There should be a reduction in the setup price and licensing costs."
"We pay for a yearly license."
"This gateway is pretty cheap."
