Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We can manage, organize, and track incidents, claims, jobs, tasks, preventive and corrective maintenance, locations, and assets.""The most powerful features are the database and integration with CMDB.""I have found Work Order management the most valuable feature. Additionally, it is a very robust and powerful solution.""The most valuable feature is asset management maintenance as well as asset management overall.""We were able to scale perfectly.""We were doing all kinds of paperwork for every type of order and to maintain our assets but with the use of the IBM Maximo application, we can automate a lot of the processes.""Maximo is very stable. We really do not have problem with stability.""Has a powerful audit combination that helps achieve high accuracy."

"It helped change behavior across the organization to improve accountability.""Allows us to define scenarios that notify only the necessary people when we need to open a conference bridge.""We're able to point all of our alerting tools at xMatters and have it route alerts to the right people at the right time. We're able to generate major instant notifications for product outages, get all of our people on the bridge at the same time, and include information from our monitoring tools with that. So everyone is speaking the same language and seeing the same information. We're able to route those notifications not only to people, but also to other tools like Slack channels, where everyone can get in and collaborate.""We have reduced the time it takes to resolve major incidents through xMatters’s conference bridge management solution.""We have not noticed any scalability issues in the two years that we have used the system.""xMatters is helpful for getting the right on-call resources. That is a key factor. It is also very user-friendly, and just a little documentation helps you to understand things such as how on-calls are configured, how groups are configured, and how users update their on-call devices.""It reduces the amount of oversight required, and consequently, the amount of time to assign and get a response on a ticket.""The ability to notify teams and monitor those notifications in real-time is valuable. Time-based escalation of notifications helps us resolve issues much more quickly."

Cons
"There are always ways to improve and make things better.""The pricing model of the solution has room for improvement as well as the after-sales support.""The standard reports that shipped with the package need to be enriched with more advanced reports, especially for the Inventory Management sections.""Could use some alignment regarding some standards and the tracking of the IT assets. Even though they have all of the information (i.e. where are the assets, who owns the asset, etc.), they were not mapping it to different cyber standards.""Coding can be complex when customization is required.""IBM is a big company and they have a lot of products. Level One, the first level of tech support, is the one that is used to stop the tsunami. For everyone, it's always work to get past that.""Areas for improvement include: an enhanced Service Catalog on Mobile; Agent intelligence; better dashboards for KPIs.""It needs full-service visibility. There are a lot of things that are hard for users to find out. For example, the Service Catalog is not too friendly. You really have to know what you're looking for."

More IBM Maximo Cons →

"The data validation and verification need to be enhanced so that when data is changed, it reviews it in an automated manner and catches all of the anomalies.""We cannot go back in time to check out the previous schedules that we had. We can only see them moving forward. I wish we were able to go back and see the previous schedules that we had. That's the biggest thing.""While they do have an extensive library of integrations, sometimes those integrations or custom integrations, require a more technical level of expertise in products outside of xMatters, such as Java.""When you are not using the conference bridge from xMatters and you are using an external one, it is a little bit hard to get the person whom xMatters calls to jump directly to the external bridge. They need to hang up the phone and then get to the email to get the URL so that they can jump on the bridge. There is no direct connection from xMatters to that external bridge, but I understand that part of the business.""I would like xMatters to provide users with the capability of administering it on their own. I do a lot of hand-holding with them.""The reporting functionality could be improved, though I know that's something xMatters, inc. is working on. For example, sometimes I need to go into the platform and find users who aren't in groups that have been created recently, haven't logged in and so on. Previously, this was hard work, but they added loads of filters, making it more accessible. Still, the ability to create custom-designated reports that I could run and schedule would be fantastic for me. It would be good if they keep improving the reporting functionality, as it can be somewhat restrictive sometimes.""We would like to see the ability to support custom devices. We have a lot of users who use Slack, which is another tool for communication. xMatters currently does not support Slack as a communication method. It can't send events to Slack and respond to them.""Beyond the typical grouping, xMatters has what is referred to as dynamic teams. Dynamic teams are criteria for setting up and targeting a group of people that meet specific criteria. The bad thing about this setup is that you cannot alter those criteria through the typical xMatters import/export process. The attributes that create the criteria for dynamic teams can only be altered via the Web UI. So, if you want to create a new dynamic team in a mature xMatters environment (one that is already populated with hundreds of users), and you want to add, say, 100 users to that dynamic team, you have to do it manually."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "You pay for what you get. There are lots of options depending on how you would like to implement Maximo."
  • "The concurrent user license is much more effective in management and cost-wise, as it is more suitable for maintenance management."
  • "Where available, concurrent licenses can be more cost efficient and provide more flexibility."
  • "Explore the possibility of using DB2. You will avoid the cost of SQL Server or Oracle licenses."
  • "Explore internal processes in order to evaluate the correct number of users in each Maximo module, then evaluate the different offers of pricing and licensing."
  • "I do not know about the price of the solution. However, this has been an expensive project overall."
  • "IBM Maximo offers a licensing application, and you have to comply with the license."
  • "IBM has changed the licensing policy. As I understand now, they are going from a complex way of licensing to a more simple way of licensing."
  • More IBM Maximo Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "This is our biggest issue: licensing. Our customer has only purchased a set number of full licensed users, and we are constantly running up against our license limit. To mitigate licensing concerns, we completely control at the admin level user additions and removals, and do a monthly cleanup process driven by security contractor removal reports."
  • "If the licensing were cheaper, our customer might buy more."
  • "Pricing is pretty straightforward and listed on their website. I recommend starting small and expanding later."
  • "The only potential concern is professional services. They are capable, but like to bill on an hourly basis."
  • "I do not think it is worth the value."
  • "If you are willing to pay for the licensing of it, it is able to scale out."
  • "Then, in pricing, you are limited on your number of SMS messages that you can send a month and the licensing cost annually."
  • "xMatters is pricey, but you have to consider what a critical incident costs your organization."
