Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The monitoring is the solution's most valuable feature.""It is customer-centric. Customers can access the event list from their location or desktop and view the event. There is no need to go and connect to any other server and run events to have a view of all the events happening in the environment. We get a good response from customers about this feature and the main architecture of NetCool. Its processing is very good. Deduplication and correlation functionalities are good in this solution as compared to other solutions. A big advantage of NetCool is that it also supports multi-layered protocols. We can receive multiple events from different protocols like UDP, HTTP, and those events can be captured in NetCool.""The biggest plus points for me are the configurability and scalability of the solution, as well as the multi-tenancy of the platform.""It is an easy-to-use solution.""Probes are the best feature because they are well written which rarely requires you to write additional rules. These probes monitor activity within your environment.""The most valuable feature is the event management capability."

"Best feature of all is detailed monitoring of services, processes, ports and SSL certificates and or web content.""It is simple.""The best feature is the highly flexible graphs.""Science Logic provides distributed and all-in-one concept in monitoring, you can easily customize the features in this product.""The solution provides good infra-monitoring features.""The power flow is great.""The most valuable features of ScienceLogic are AI and machine learning.""ScienceLogic allows us to create and customize a user-friendly dashboard."

Cons
"The cost of the product is quite high. They should work to adjust their pricing models.""I would like for the next release to be more user-friendly and out of date. The next release should focus on the cloud, AI, and ML technologies.""The web portal and typical event controls are a little outdated.""Its technical support team takes longer to reply.""There should be an easier-to-understand model, more of a flat-structured model rather than different tiers of licenses which complicates licensing.""Its integration could be better. They should provide an easier integration for all the monitoring stuff, and it will make things easier for us. Currently, there is a complexity in integrating it with a vendor application, and we have to use another tool to integrate it with a vendor application. To integrate some applications with NetCool, I need to install an IBM tool on top of it. It would be good if they can provide an API or any kind of interface that we can leverage while developing a new protocol interface or application. We should be able to use an API or interface with NetCool. Its GUI can also be better. As compared to other tools, it is not user friendly, and it is not easy to do stuff through GUI. Whenever we do anything on the GUI, it takes time. They need to focus on the GUI part, especially the dashboard. They should focus on how users can effectively drill down from one box to another. The visual appeal of the dashboard is as important as the data and functionality."

"The product's reporting functionalities have certain shortcomings, making it an area where improvements are required.""They should improve database issues in HA and Failover mode, and provide documentation for all users , even if they are not customers.""Addressing duplicate IPs: There is the ability to edit the DB and fix this, but adding some logic to understand them would be a plus.""I would like to see out-of-the-box standard dashboards for common services.""One important area we feel could be improved is the UI. It takes a lot of clicks to do very simple tasks.""ScienceLogic should provide detailed documents to customer as the current documents are not sufficient.""It doesn't have the complete application-level topology. It could have service topology and business service monitoring. I would like to see how business service monitoring will function with agent-based installation, and how flexible and business-oriented it is for service modeling and service infrastructure. I have a lot of experience in using business service monitoring, service topology, and service hierarchy functionalities in similar products from BMC and Micro Focus (OpenView), and I want to see how these functionalities will look like in ScienceLogic.""ScienceLogic could improve the implementation, it could be made easier."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "You have to have the right level of budget to afford this solution."
  • "Its license cost is a little bit more than other solutions. Our customers expect a standard market price that is comparative to other products. For each and every NetCool OMNIbus component, we have to purchase a separate license. These components are not free with the product."
  • "It is a costly solution."
  • More IBM Tivoli NetCool OMNIbus Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Pricing between the two is quiet large therefore you can save some money if you don't require to collect all info on each device."
  • "Decide what you want to monitor and only monitor those items. Absorb other elements as you grow."
  • "Plan for adding more to it. Once you see EM7 in action, you will want to keep adding systems to monitor."
  • "It comes with the OS built in, so no need to purchase an OS license or DB license."
  • "Its price could be lower, but for what you pay, you got a lot of value from its features and functionalities. Customers always want a discount or a cheaper solution."
  • "The pricing model for ScienceLogic could improve."
  • "The solution is license-based. It's between $8 and $15, depending on what you need from the product."
  • "I'm not the best person to discuss pricing, but what I do know is that it's a use-and-go structure. You use this much storage and pay this much for it. That's how it is. Every time, we continue to add a large amount of data to the environment."
