Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"We just control on the backend of AppInternals what we want to instrument and what we don't want to instrument.""Clicks to root cause - fast & easy to diagnose and deep-dive""The capability of analysing each individual transaction captured to a very low level detail (method call/line of code).""As an Administrator, before we bought this AppInternals, I didn't have visibility on why items were slow or why an application was not running. This gives us the ability to see what's going on. The application is load balancing. We can now see if its own server has issues or just one specific server has issues.""I like it that one can match IPs with the application name.""The most valuable aspect of this solution is the integration with their other systems. It's easy to understand and it points out the relevant problems in the enterprise.""Transaction Tracing is the most useful. Being able to have the transaction stitched together so we can see where the problem is has proven invaluable.""Synthetic transactions, WMI and SNMP query capability."

"The flexibility of the product is most valuable. It is highly customizable. If you put your mind to it and think of something you could do, there's a good possibility you can get it integrated within the console, if it's not readily available. The simplicity or ease of customization has been valuable.""The biggest benefit of Geneos is the fact that we can clearly see, if we have an alert, where that alert has come from. We can see the data around that alert and anything that might be relevant is also shown. We can very easily right-click and see why we've received that alert. That's the best part about it, that you've got all the data there with the alerting.""The Netprobe is so lightweight compared to the agents that most monitoring tools use. It's really superior to the competition. The agent that is used by almost every competitive tool takes a lot more system resources. It's slower and it requires a greater effort and more compromises in terms of security to install on the monitored servers. With Geneos, because it lives outside the code, it is far easier and far less taxing on the monitored systems.""It enables us to monitor application processes, to do log-monitoring on a 24/7 basis, to do server-level monitoring - all the hardware parameters - as well as monitor connectivity across applications to the interfaces.""Geneos automatically sends email notifications when any batch job fails, the database is down or the website is down. It is automatically monitoring everything and reduces manual effort.""The solution is used across the entire investment banking division, covering environments such as electronic trading, algo-trading, fixed income, FX, etc. It monitors that environment and enables a bank to significantly reduce down time. Although hard to measure, since implementation, we have probably seen some increased stability because of it and we have definitely seen teams a lot more aware of their environment. Consequently, we can be more proactive in challenging and improving previously undetected weaknesses.""One of the most valuable features of ITRS Geneos is the active time feature that helps with the trading applications that I support.""I always appreciate Geneos's stability and ease of use."

Cons
"We'd like to be able to find out performance problems on application class and methods.""We have put in a request as an enhancement that we would like to search for items. If we're searching for a URL and we want to know was it a get or was it a post.""I would like for it to have automated updates, the way the product updates itself should be all automated, as opposed to what it is now.""They should find a way for report generation from TTW to run quicker.""It would be great if the solution could offer fixed bundles and more features.""The recording mechanism for synthetic transactions could be improved as well.""The technical support is not very good and should be improved.""Deployment and agent patch management is not managed centrally, resulting in a large level of effort to update."

More Aternity AppInternals [EOL] Cons →

"Much of the reporting outside of the user interface is very basic and requires much customization to be useful.""They have the Webslinger solution where you can see when something is alerting. It's a little bit cumbersome.""It needs to be easier to configure, especially with the JMX plugins.""The deployment method for upgrading is a bit tricky. It takes a little bit of manual effort. If that could be a bit more automated, it would help us a lot.""I would like to see ITRS integrate its setup editor with a SVN to check-in setup XML after major changes.""I would also like to see suggested guidelines to accomplish a monitoring task. The issue is that ITRS is so flexible that there is more than one way to complete a task, each with benefits and disadvantages.""The main feature that needs work is the Dashboard designer.""One thing that could be improved in terms of rapid scaling would be more ability to clone aspects of an implementation. It seems like there are opportunities in this area, where we have repetitive tasks to do when it comes to implementing things on new servers or on new gateways. It would be great if there was an easy way to clone something that had already been done."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The licensing model is expensive compared to its competitors, but the service it gives to your business, and the data quality, means that it's worth it."
  • "The licensing model for v9 is better where it is an individual license per server, while v10 licenses are per JVM/ .NET and server instance. The latter model appears to be the model that other APM vendors are using."
  • More Aternity AppInternals [EOL] Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "You will get the best price if you get a single global deal."
  • "The product is priced quite high. There are pricing options for customers based on the size of the environment and plug-ins used by the monitoring system."
  • "Pricing and licensing is based on the requirements."
  • "The licensing cost may seem expensive upfront. However, the service is outstanding, the tool does things that no other tools can do, and the customizability more than makes up for the cost of licensing."
  • "Pricing is the touchy subject, even here. Upper management always wants us to find a cheaper solution. But we have so much integrated with ITRS... It's expensive, but it does its job very well. And you set it and go."
  • "It is expensive. They have to look at the model around when we move to cloud and how that's going to work. The licensing cost does pay off because of the improvements in support to our business."
  • "When I first came in, their pricing was very high. ITRS had a high expectation of what their price should be based on perceived value. I think they have been realizing, more recently, that there are other competitors, so their pricing is a lot better. Licensing for on-premise is okay, however I feel there is quite some work to be done for cloud and containers. We're still working with them to try and work out what that pricing should look like."
  • "Given our spend and the amount of service we have in it, the pricing is quite reasonable."
