We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
It allows me to present or to demonstrate the business process flow, visually, without having to resort to PowerPoint, Visio, or other products. The speed and execution of DMN was a big selling point for us. It's very good at conducting business processes that are easily modeled and presented in a way that's easy to understand. The solution is easily compatible with HTML forms and HTML language programming and that is the most significant part. When I compare it with other BPM tools, like IBM, it is great, open source, and free when you use the community version. The most valuable feature is the ability to share the logic within the rules engine with the business, so you can put it up for everybody to read. The number of client implementations and cross-language capabilities to support multiple frameworks is very pluggable compared to Pega. It's also more portable.I've found the active community most valuable but it also provides you with a lot of other features. We are documenting all of the processors and VPN. Then we are sharing it with our business users.

The most valuable feature is that the software controls everything from a single management window. The solution is scalable. If a company needs to expand it, it's completely possible to do so.We don't use the entire solution, however, even the small sections we have access to work well for our company and our purposes.I find the IT portfolio management very valuable and helpful. The most valuable feature of this solution is the reuse of common enterprise components and entities. The initial setup was straightforward. With configuration, customizing or prepping the data and deployment, it took about one year to set up. We only needed two people to deploy and maintain the solution: one business architect and someone who specializes in customization and operations. The most valuable feature for this solution is the automatic updating and propagation of changes across the system. You do not need to be a professional of enterprise modeling to contribute to the enrichment and improvement of the enterprise repository.

I like to use Visio because it gives me a quick view of the things I had to put in a model for a company. I don't use it as an interface, though. The Data Objects are hyperlinked to the Standard Operating Procedures, Letters, and Forms.Visio has improved our organization through an essential collaboration with the other Microsoft applications like SharePoint and Excel. So basically in the earlier days, what used to happen, a majority of the organization captured all the as-is process, the time and motion data in the form of Excel and then they used to create process diagrams using other freeware applications. Collaboration allows easy and convenient sharing with other stakeholders, that is really helpful with Visio.I enjoy the fact that I can go into detail with Visio. In shared communications, I can inspect for any fault in my processes. It is easy to learn and implement.Putting details into the process flow and being able to link other objects into the diagrams are very helpful features. The most valuable feature is the ability to draw models quickly. The diagramming and swimlane features allow for separating business functions.

Cons
If there were some industry templates it would have helped significantly, because it is similar to a process map for a domain. That is what we are currently creating, a domain-relevant process map.Especially when you use the open-source version, there are issues with performance.I would also like a very easy to use form builder.I would like to have a feature for audit logging, audit logs and audit log management. And some history of use for the audit logs.I would like to see the forms engine available in the open-source version of this solution. The user interface needs improvement. It should be more tailored to the end-user and offer a better user experience design over the user interface itself.I would say that Camunda should actually focus on small cases as well. There's a lot of space out there, for small businesses. If they can, they should cater to them. When you search for Camunda BPM resources or books on how to utilize Camunda BPM, it is lacking. When it comes to Alfresco, there are thousands of resources that can help you to utilize within AWS and its Group Services. I would like to see the usage of Camunda BPM on Amazon Web Services be improved.

I would like to see more regular updates released. The features are limited. I'm hoping in the future the solution will be bigger and include more items. Right now, overall, it needs more. The solution is a bit expensive. They could work to make it more competitive.Scalability can be a problem sometimes. The tool usability is weak and it also has a high learning curve. They do tend to push people to their professional services, instead of helping the customers with their problems. I understand this is their business. At the same time, however, they need to work on fact sheets or offer some program to help the customers who want to implement it themselves and to make it run properly in their environment. We would like to see integration with other products, such as being able to use our workflow with SharePoint and Microsoft Office.Needs a friendlier import/export to other modeling tools.

Something that needs to improve, is the interface interaction with other tools. The Auto-Align has improved significantly from the previous release; however, it still jumbles the model if your process diagram has a fair degree of complexity. The one particular thing which I would like to see improved is in comparison to other products in the market, and is still lacking in Visio, is publishing on a web application. For example, there is a freeware application business process modeling tool, Bizagi.I would like to see included in the next release is the implementation of web publishing.Transferring data was one of the issues that I expected Visio to have resolved. I use the older version. It does not integrate well with other solutions.I would like to be able to present diagrams in multiple ways, such as a Swimlane diagram.I would like to see traceability. It doesn't have it. You cannot find one object amongst several sheets of Visio diagrams.

Pricing and Cost Advice
I use the open-source free version.Camunda is much cheaper. We are using the open-source version of this solution. It is less cost-prohibitive than other solutions on the market. This solution was in our price range.
