We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

"The solution's scalability is very, very good. It's one of the most important aspects for us.""The whole solution is interesting for us.""The speed is great and the architecture is excellent.""They are available on the Cloud, and the platform is very intuitive.""Microsoft provides both the platform and the data center, so you don't have to look for a cloud vendor. It saves you from having to deal with two vendors for the same task.""The features we've found most valuable for data warehouses is extracting data, SSIS packages, and the DBs.""The pricing seems to be quite fair.""Very interactive and provides flexibility."

"With respect to what needs to be improved, concurrent connectivity has some limitations.""The initial setup is complex.""Microsoft should develop an interface to make it easier to shift from on-premise to the cloud.""The major challenge that we're seeing with Azure Synapse is around security concerns. The way it is working right now, it has Managed VNet by Microsoft option, similar to the implementation of Azure Databricks, which may pose a concern for financial institutions. For managed environments, the banks have very strict policies around data being onboarded to those environments. For some confidential applications, the banks have the policy to encrypt it with their own key, so it is sort of like Bring Your Own Key, but it is not possible to manage the resources with Microsoft or Databricks, which is probably the major challenge with Azure Synapse. There should be more compatibility with SQL Server. It should be easier to migrate solutions between different environments because right now, it is not really competitive. It is not like you can go and install SQL Database in some other environment. You will have to go through some migration projects, which probably is one of the major showstoppers for any bank. When they consider Synapse, they not only consider the investment in the actual service; they also consider the cost of the migration process. When you scale out or scale down your system, it becomes unavailable for a few minutes. Because it is a data warehouse environment, it is not such a huge deal, but it would be great if they can improve it so that the platform is available during the change of configuration.""I would like to see them provide the ingestion of images.""The performance and data consistency need to be improved.""The macro functions, though useful, are not totally user-friendly. Some people have difficulties in learning them.""Right now, we are really struggling with the performance. it's not as good as we had hoped."

"They need to incorporate a machine learning engine.""The reporting for certain types of data needs to be improved.""I would like the tool to support different operating systems.""I would like to see better visualization features.""We find the cost of the solution to be a little high.""This solution would be improved with an option for in-memory data analysis.""More tools to help designers should be included.""If the database is large with a lot of columns then it is difficult to clean the data."

Pricing and Cost Advice
"The price of the package not expensive and depends on how much it is used.""We normally pay between $300 and $500 per month, which is quite expensive for how much we actually use it, performance- and usage-wise. They have a cheap version and an expensive version, and our usage usually falls in the middle ground, which makes it not as cost-effective as it could be.""The cost of the licensing depends on the size of the warehouse, where the cost of storage is approximately $130 USD per terabyte.""There is a cost calculator available online that allows you to input your entire scenario, and it will get back to you with information on what the costs are going to be.""It's very difficult to price unless you know exactly how the customer is using it.""My company pays for the license and I am not sure about the price.""We are on a monthly payment plan for the use of Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics.""This is a cost-effective product."

"Microsoft has an agreement with the government in our country, so our customers get their licensing costs from the Ministry. Whenever we work with any government, company, or government institute, which is mainly what we are doing, that license comes directly from the Ministry of Technology and Information.""All the features that we use do not require any additional subscription or yearly fees."

Seamlessly create your hub for analytics along with native connectivity with data integration and visualization services, all while using your existing SQL and BI skills.

The traditional structured relational data warehouse was never designed to handle the volume of exponential data growth, the variety of semi-structured and unstructured data types, or the velocity of real time data processing.
