What do you think of Oracle Exadata?

Valuable Features The most valuable features are the high columnar compression and the flash cache. Basically, the whole I/O subsystem is valuable, but those two features are really big for us. • Room for Improvement Pricing. • Use of Solution I have been using it for close to five years. • Stability Issues It is very stable. We were on X2; that was not as stable. There were some battery issues with some of the flash cache cards. We're on X5 and X4 now and that's much better; many more IOPS, so that's been great. • Scalability Issues It is scalable, very much so. What is most valuable?

High performance RDBMS appliance optimized for data warehousing and enterprise reporting. Very simple to manage huge volumes of data without having to worry about indexing and partitioning. Automated compression of tables without any custom... more»

How has it helped my organization?

Reports which used to take between 30 to 60 minutes or would time out on an Oracle database, which was previously used for the enterprise DWH, now run consistently in seconds or in less than five minutes.

What needs improvement?

Could do better to support more concurrent update queries. We had to stagger our ETL.

What do you think of Apache Hadoop?
