We performed a comparison between Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics and Teradata based on real PeerSpot user reviews.
Find out in this report how the two Data Warehouse solutions compare in terms of features, pricing, service and support, easy of deployment, and ROI."The initial setup was really easy and straightforward."
"The MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) architecture helps to make things a lot faster."
"-"
"Very interactive and provides flexibility."
"The integrated workspace in Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics where everything comes together, such as Power BI and Data Factory, is very good. Additionally, the ability to do dedicated SQL pooling is a benefit."
"Its scalability and ease of use are valuable. It is fairly simple for a tool that's that powerful. If you have a background in Microsoft SQL Server, it is a very easy-to-transition path."
"The most valuable features of Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics are its serverless flexibility and complete power have allowed me to explore various different use cases. While I am not an expert in the product, my experience in programming in Databricks has shown me that Microsoft's investments in Synapse could potentially lead to it becoming a complete replacement for Databricks in the future."
"We also like governance. It looks at what the requirements are for the company to identify the best way to ensure compliance is met when you move to the cloud."
"The most valuable features are the large volume of data and the structuring of the data to optimize it and get very optimal data warehouse solutions for customers."
"It is a stable program."
"It has massive parallel processing ability to do large amounts of concurrent querying."
"The key advantages are Performance when processing Terabytes of data and scalability."
"It's very, very fast"
"It has a solid set of tools and consulting services."
"The functionality of the solution is excellent."
"When it comes to integration, tools like Informatica seamlessly connect with Teradata. We ensure the Teradata database is configured correctly in Informatica, including the proper hostname and properties for the load process. We didn't find any major complexity or issues with integration."
"Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics could improve its compatibility with Visual Studio. One of the challenges for people moving from an on-premise to a cloud solution, such as Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics, is that you're constantly working in a browser. There are people that have been working for decades on desktop applications. For them to start working in a browser, it's quite a change. Allowing people to work and do their work inside Visual Studio than in the browser, would be a large advantage."
"We'd like the solution to have more analytics capability."
"Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics's pricing could be reduced."
"The configuration for things like high-availability could be more user-friendly for non-technical users."
"Microsoft should develop an interface to make it easier to shift from on-premise to the cloud."
"It's stable, but its stability could be better. However, we understand that it's in production, and new features are getting added and upgraded, so you do get hiccups sometimes."
"The product needs a tool that allows for work from a laptop instead of a browser."
"Integration with other vendors has limitations and could be improved."
"Limited interest and success in some areas make us hesitate about upgrading."
"Teradata needs to pay attention to the cloud-based solution to make sure it runs smoothly."
"It would help to make scaling easier with a reduced cost. "
"Teradata is an old data warehouse, and they're not improving in terms of new, innovative features."
"Data synchronization to the DR site."
"There is some improvement required on OLTP level and some analytical function is missing."
"Teradata can improve the way it handles big data and unstructured data."
"Since I was working on the very basic, legacy systems, the memory thing was always a challenge. If Teradata is moving to the cloud, the space constraint or the memory issue that my company generally faces will eventually resolve, in time. What I'd like to see in the next release of Teradata is that it becomes full-fledged on the cloud, apart from better connectivity to various systems. For example, if I have to read or include a Python script, if I write some basic codes, I should be able to read even unstructured data. I know that it's not supported even in Snowflake, but at least semi-structured data support, if that can be a little more enhanced, that would be good."
