Quotes From Members Comparing QlikView vs SAP BusinessObjects

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
Scripting as per a customer's need, which is a pretty cool feature and not available in other tools. On the positive side, QlikView's scripting is a great asset as it functions as an ETL.The in-memory feature gives us better insight. It's also easy to drill down into the information and select information.Associative model - no more cubes. Its ability to build, very quickly, very complicated models.A well designed app brings freedom of inquiry to meetings, allowing me to answer questions in real time and this has transformed progress and outputs of our monthly group meeting.E-T-L, The Extract, Transform, and Loading capabilities of QlikView make it a highly sophisticated self-service business intelligence tool for developers and analysts.Data transforming with scripting, and the associative model that lets users browse data in an easy way, are the most valuable features.

It can process big volumes of data fast.Through the use of Business Intelligence reporting and scheduling features, reports are generated and automatically sent according to a schedule. This has freed up countless hours spent performing the same tasks, month over month.Enables us to present data with Smart Objects that can be embedded within presentations and which automatically update when the presentations are run.Reporting from SAP Business Objects Web Intelligence is amazing, and gives users the ability to quickly access data from existing universes and/or relevant data sources, without the need to involve a functional business analyst or financial analyst.Provides autonomy for all the business users to develop their own reports. The report development tool called SAP Web Intelligence under the BI Launch Pad portal has been the most valuable feature. It is a very good product, stable, and has good technical capabilities. It allows the analysis of business data and enables decisions based on the analysis.

Cons
Installation and deployment could be made easier and quicker. If a user wanted to see something not included in the application the new object had to be created by a power user or developer because Qlik view's scripting has somewhat of a learning curve. For me, it is important to have a mix, what is the "view" and what is the "sense", Qlik Sense. They have two tools, but for me it is important to have only one tool, which combines the functions that we have from one side and the other side.Although Qliktech's road map clearly states that QlikView has a long way to go, most of the R&D effort seems to be benefiting Qlik Sense.Improvement in collaboration, between that and publishing of reports and publishing of models.Syntax editor needs some work, it's frustrating to have valid syntax being flagged as incorrect. The user interface and ease of use takes a bit of a learning curve to pick up.Error handling.

The admin features for disk space management need work. It's very difficult to manage the disk space by the application; good admin features and not included to allow you to do that. I don't believe that is in the latest version of the product either.Currently, we can use Explore to do data discovering, but cannot generate charts. The biggest area for improvement would be the dashboarding capabilities due to the recent change from Xcelsius to Dashboard Designer. This has created a gigantic ripple in many companies because the skill sets required are drastically different. This product could be improved with Cloud Integrations and Predictive Analytics functions integration.More thorough testing of Service Packs before release. The calculation engine requires some improvement. There is still a lot to be done on the mobile side to make Web Intelligence truly seamless between the desktop and mobile versions and I would like to see SAP pay a lot more attention to this.I would like to see their data visualization products enhanced and made more robust and easier to implement.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Qlik is fairly high in terms of pricing.QlikView pricing and licensing is on the high side for a small sized company, but it's competitive among its peers.Pricing is a bit too high and I think licenses should be unlimited.

Depending on your size, try to stick with SAP BusinessObjects BI Edge. Most people tend to overthink the licensing. Remember that one concurrent user means that one person can be performing a task at a given time. That does not mean that only one user can be on the system at a time, it means that only one person can be refreshing a report or designing a dashboard. There are tons of ways you can access your data or reports without consuming a license. I've seen cases where five concurrent licenses support thousands of users. There's no additional charge for a Development environment license, so build an additional development server. It is not an expensive platform. The licensing is for a package of users starting at 10 users. It has an option of a Cloud Platform (SAP Analytics Cloud) which has a lower price than the on-premise platform, and you can buy individual licences per user.Just work with SAP to make sure you have enough licenses but don't go overboard.
