D-Link Wireless Initial Setup

Manager, Information Technology Security at Nesma

The ease of deployment depends on the model. The one I used was easy to access. The configuration was easy. There is another one, which is at a higher level. I think it is the highest the vendor has. It needs more work to configure. It's not straightforward. We need some networking background to configure it. The installation and configuration can be done in ten minutes. It might take 25 to 30 minutes to install the higher-level tool. The time taken depends on the requirements or configuration we need. Maintaining the tool is easy.

The product's initial setup phase is easy.

In our university, we currently have a project where we want to implement the product in three months.

The tool is deployed on the cloud model because my institution deals with four campuses. Since Mumbai has one of our university's major campuses, we may keep the product on an on-premises model.

For deployment and maintenance, my institution has three technical staff members, including a network engineer, a technical assistant, and a system administrator.

The solution's installation phase is quite simple. The solution is deployed on-premises.

The time taken for deployment depends on the number of devices you have, so it's a matter of hours. The precise number of hours needed to deploy the solution depends on the number of devices. The more devices you have, the more time you take. In our case, it took almost three hours.

For deployment, I need one or two people.

Maintenance is done based on frequent updates. So, one person is enough to do the maintenance.

The setup process is very easy. It takes about five to ten minutes to install. If you install the management system, it may take up to half an hour to complete the setup.

The initial setup is super straightforward. It's truly just a few clicks and it's ready to go. Deployment, however, could involve switches or firewalls as well, so it usually takes two weeks because there are so many other moving parts. It's not related to D-Link per se, because the wireless is another segment of the network. However, if you are talking about general infrastructure, of which D-Link is a part, it's about two weeks.

There are sometimes three or four people involved in the implementation process.

The maintenance is always done by the clients. We deploy and then we are hands-off. We don't normally have a problem with support on D-Link. Customers don't normally complain about services or have issues.

The product's initial setup is straightforward and not very complex.

The solution can be deployed in a day or two.

The solution's deployment process consists of the management of the console connectivity. I had done the deployment for the product five years ago during one of my projects, so I don't remember much about the tool's deployment phase. Recently, I haven't deployed the solution.

The admin team takes care of the installation. I wasn't a part of it. I can't speak to how easy or hard it is to execute.

We have seven team members that can handle deployment and maintenance tasks. They are admins and managers.

Some of our customers have existing infrastructure and if it is suitable, we install the active equipment for this solution. When customers do not have existing infrastructure, we suggest cabling be installed. Deployment takes approximately one week depending on the customer's requirements.

If an installation involves hundreds of data points, tracking, creating pathways and fiber optic cables that need to be buried underground, it can take a long time.

In terms of maintenance, most customers from small and medium enterprises, are able to maintain the solution themselves.

It is a simple, plug-and-play setup. It is a little more work if we have to put in restrictions and other settings, but overall, it is not complex.

It's easy to install. My team took around one or two hours to deploy it. We have a team of five to six people trained by D-Link in our company.
