We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Overall IBM ProtectTIER is a great solution. It is easy to use.""The most valuable features are the Self-Service, and the ability to search the data.""In terms of stability, I've found it to be very stable. I've walked into the server room when it was at 60 degrees Celcius, and it was still running fine.""The solution is highly stable.""The command-line interface is good.""The cataloging is the best feature. It takes millions of frames for the backup. It's incremental, so it takes less time to complete."

More IBM ProtectTIER Pros →

"Its flexibility is valuable. It is a very flexible solution. There are always more ways than one to do something. It is a software solution, which means you can buy your own hardware and expand it whenever you want. You are not boxed in or locked into something you've bought and outgrown. You can always expand it.""Forever incremental - allows TSM to optimize storage needs.""The interface is easy to use.""The amount of data that it protects with very little storage by doing incremental forever is one of its most valuable features.""Traditional archiving. One of our revenue streams involves maintaining archives of our customers' data for very long periods of time.""IBM support is friendly, knowledgeable, and they always respond quickly. They've always been able to find the cause of my problem.""Our performance is better.""Some of the people in our group, like our DBAs and non-technical people, can restore some stuff themselves via Spectrum Protect. That is how simple it is."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Pros →

"Application awareness is very good and the speed of this solution is good.""The solution is very affordable for small businesses.""Veeam is very user-friendly and intuitive software.""The most valuable features are the flexibility and stability of the product.""I don't have any major problems with the agent connectivity with Microsoft applications or Microsoft Azure.""The initial setup, if it is error-free, is very simple.""It is a stable solution.""The most valuable feature is the ability to navigate inside a backup point to look for a specific folder or data you want to recover."

Cons
"I would like the possibility to back up the infrastructure and then replicate it upon on restart, without having to orchestrate the starting of the VM.""The backup for a large amount of data is slow.""IBM ProtectTIER could improve by being more user-friendly.""Setting up the system to work with legacy equipment is a bit complex at times.""The configuration wizards are still complex and hard to navigate. These should be easier to manage."

More IBM ProtectTIER Cons →

"The solution's initial setup process wasn't easy...The solution is overly complicated in terms of architecture, especially compared to other tools in the market.""In the next version of the solution, I would like to see cloud support.""The product’s recovery process in terms of agent installation needs improvement""High availability (HA) is a scalability challenge.""IBM Spectrum Protect could be improved by making the installation easier. Once it's implemented, it's okay. IBM started lagging behind when things started moving to storage and cloud-based solutions. Even though they've recently released updates that give cloud-based protection, personally, I still believe they are not up to par with the likes of Rubrik. The entire product is a little bit clumsy because they have co-joined two different products, so it's complex. Even from a sales/explaining to people what it does point of view, it's complex. Whereas, if you take more current products, it's a single box solution. You reel it in, you fire it up, you do a couple of points and clicks, and off you go, whereas the IBM system is seriously complex. There's a lot of training involved and it's a massively difficult product to sell at this point in time.""The deduplication must be perfect, and thus should be improved.""Integration with some applications in the healthcare field could be added, as that is a big part of our business.""Any feature that is compliant with virtualizing the application should be improved."

More IBM Spectrum Protect Cons →

"The solution lacks instant recovery.""If they could let you can do replication to physical servers - a backup from physical servers and a replication to physical servers - that will be better.""A feature I would like to see is universal restore. At the moment, restoration can only be smooth on the same hardware. Let's say you have a server and you back it up with Veeam Agent, in case it fails or crashes. If you later buy a new server because the same one isn't available on the market anymore, there's a high chance that Windows will not boot up if you restore from the Veeam backup because the hardware is now different. Acronis has the universal restore feature, so it will work with generic drivers and you can restore Windows in any dissimilar hardware. As far as I know, Veeam doesn't have this feature yet.""The solution's compression ratio and high speed for backing up can always improve. Aspects that need improvement are less time, better quality, higher security, and more compression. These are continuous requirements for any customer.""Maybe in the future, they could do something better with the user interface and the performance, but so far it's a really good, efficient solution.""I've found a lot of difficulties on the initial setup and especially in terms of credentials. We really need a Window OS. It doesn't like the domain admin account. it's a primary permission issue.""Updating and configuration can sometimes be a little bit of a hassel, but once you know the product better it is easy to use.""The stability of this solution needs to be improved."

Users can choose to back up individual folders and files, designate particular computer files, or even the entire computer image.

Backups can be saved in several different locations, such as:

    • Cloud Repository (Veeam Cloud Connect)
    • Backup Repository (Veeam Backup Server)
    • Network Shared Folder
    • Local Computer Drive
    • Removable Storage Device (USB, CD, DVD, etc)
    • Microsoft OneDrive

Veeam Agent for Windows users are able to:

    • Create a Veeam Recovery Media file on an external hard drive, CD/DVD/BD, internal hard drive, or choose to establish an ISO file using Veeam Recovery Media on disk.
    • Create a comprehensive system image backup and securely back up chosen computer volumes or specific personal folders with files. Users have the option to store backups in a network shared folder on an external hard drive, or use the Veeam backup repository, Veeam Cloud Connect Repository, or Microsoft OneDrive.

    • File-Level Restore: Veeam Agent will use Veeam’s proprietary driver to publish backup content safely to a user's computer file system. Users can then access the content user Veeam’s Virtual Disk Driver (VDK), which is included with the solution. Users can then easily browse and copy the desired files and folders to use as desired.

    Veeam Recovery Media

Veeam Agent for Windows allows users to create a complete recovery image of their computer using Veeam Recovery Media. This image contains all data necessary to run Microsoft Windows Recovery Environment (Windows RE) while supplying a viable option to run users’ computer systems.
