Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The best thing about this solution is that you can check for the infrastructure and system updates that you might need to be compliant with the Cloud.""The tool for forecasting capacity is valuable.""Mobile application is the most valuable feature for us. We can monitor all the storages on our phones. It's really good.""Has really nice roll-up dashboards.""Fewer vulnerabilities have been observed in the four years we have used the solution."

"One of the best aspects of Geneos is that it has a broad scope and can cover a lot of use cases. You can write your own scripts to monitor really specific things. And the rules that you can put in place can be quite complex for the alerts.""The biggest benefit of Geneos is the fact that we can clearly see, if we have an alert, where that alert has come from. We can see the data around that alert and anything that might be relevant is also shown. We can very easily right-click and see why we've received that alert. That's the best part about it, that you've got all the data there with the alerting.""Real-time log monitoring with desktop alerts is valuable as it tells us immediately when there is an issue.""It enables us to monitor application processes, to do log-monitoring on a 24/7 basis, to do server-level monitoring - all the hardware parameters - as well as monitor connectivity across applications to the interfaces.""Ability to monitor logs for potential issues to prevent app outages before problems get a chance to arise. That's invaluable for our teams in a fast-paced trading environment.""The flexibility of the product is most valuable. It is highly customizable. If you put your mind to it and think of something you could do, there's a good possibility you can get it integrated within the console, if it's not readily available. The simplicity or ease of customization has been valuable.""I would say that it is an easy-to-use monitoring tool. Amongst the available monitoring tools, it is a really good option.""The ability to build integrations to tools that are not monitored out of the box is the most valuable feature."

Cons
"Doesn't do well in terms of integrating with technologies other than Dell.""In terms of improvement, they should enhance the product range.""PowerScale is the only file system offered and that is limiting.""The reporting capabilities of this solution could be improved.""Supporting legacy systems is an area that can be improved."

More Dell CloudIQ Cons →

"The deployment method for upgrading is a bit tricky. It takes a little bit of manual effort. If that could be a bit more automated, it would help us a lot.""Backward compatibility with deprecated features and in system documentation on what configuration areas are needed to be updated.""It needs to be easier to configure, especially with the JMX plugins.""I would like better access to the data that is being collected.""Much of the reporting outside of the user interface is very basic and requires much customization to be useful.""I would really like to see something from the Geneos side to set up automated reporting from ITRS. We have to send reporting to management every day. To do that we have to check the dashboard and then we have to report whether everything is fine or not. In the future, I want something, some reporting kind of feature in ITRS, where it can collect all the data and mention what is green, what is amber, what is red in a report.""ITRS Geneos is not on the cloud at a time when everyone is moving to the cloud.""Sometimes, if there is a lot of data coming onto the servers, we have observed a little bit of slowness on the gateway servers which are doing the ITRS dashboard monitoring."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The solution is more expensive than NetApp which offers file systems in various price ranges."
  • More Dell CloudIQ Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "You will get the best price if you get a single global deal."
  • "The product is priced quite high. There are pricing options for customers based on the size of the environment and plug-ins used by the monitoring system."
  • "Pricing and licensing is based on the requirements."
  • "The licensing cost may seem expensive upfront. However, the service is outstanding, the tool does things that no other tools can do, and the customizability more than makes up for the cost of licensing."
  • "Pricing is the touchy subject, even here. Upper management always wants us to find a cheaper solution. But we have so much integrated with ITRS... It's expensive, but it does its job very well. And you set it and go."
  • "It is expensive. They have to look at the model around when we move to cloud and how that's going to work. The licensing cost does pay off because of the improvements in support to our business."
  • "When I first came in, their pricing was very high. ITRS had a high expectation of what their price should be based on perceived value. I think they have been realizing, more recently, that there are other competitors, so their pricing is a lot better. Licensing for on-premise is okay, however I feel there is quite some work to be done for cloud and containers. We're still working with them to try and work out what that pricing should look like."
  • "Given our spend and the amount of service we have in it, the pricing is quite reasonable."
