Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Fewer vulnerabilities have been observed in the four years we have used the solution.""The best thing about this solution is that you can check for the infrastructure and system updates that you might need to be compliant with the Cloud.""The tool for forecasting capacity is valuable.""Has really nice roll-up dashboards.""Mobile application is the most valuable feature for us. We can monitor all the storages on our phones. It's really good."

More Dell CloudIQ Pros →

"It improves the status of my infrastructure, from networking devices to real-time machines.""I can create my own program sensor. This means I can add extra monitoring capabilities into the already fundamentally strong foundation.""From a network point of view, we can see the state of the network, as well as bandwidth usage and downtime.""I like the mobility of the PRTG Network Monitor and ITOps Dashboard.""The solution provides us response times to issues.""The solution is scalable.""The most valuable features of PRTG Network Monitor are the threshold notification when certain traffic increases and goes beyond the defined threshold. The up and down status email notifications and other notifications are useful. Additionally, it is user-friendly, and customizable, and there are many features available.""The sensors and probes are great, nice and lightweight, they don't take up too many resources on the system. We just deploy them out and they start reporting instantly."

Cons
"The reporting capabilities of this solution could be improved.""In terms of improvement, they should enhance the product range.""Doesn't do well in terms of integrating with technologies other than Dell.""PowerScale is the only file system offered and that is limiting.""Supporting legacy systems is an area that can be improved."

More Dell CloudIQ Cons →

"I know we're going to move to Docker applications and I understand that PRTG does some monitoring regarding this. I do not know if it is complete. If it's not yet complete, it's something they should consider improving.""The automation should be improved.""When it comes to third-party integration, one of the things we were looking at was putting some sensors onto our firewall, for instance. If there were a little bit more documentation and some step-by-step guides around that, that would be useful for us.""This solution is a good product so far, but I haven't been using it long enough to know how it could be improved.""I would like a more straightforward ability to create dashboards and maps. The network maps should be a bit more flexibility in the GUI to do what we need to do.""In the next release, PRTG Network Monitor should add a backup solution.""Its price can be better. Its price is a problem for us because it is in dollars, and there is a high conversion rate. In terms of new features, it can have BGP monitoring. It should also have a dashboard and maps editor.""The free version only gives us 100 free sensors to use. It would be nice if there was double that."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
