Quotes From Members Comparing Dynatrace vs. New Relic APM

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
We got firsthand RCA as soon as we finished implementation. With the Agentless monitoring and ability to create custom plugins, we've been able to transform the tool not just into a great APM solution but a really good enterprise monitoring solution too.Dynatrace helped us with root cause analysis of poor performing components of our applications. The product allows us to build preferred/customized business transactions to track complex transactions. UEM (User Experience Monitoring) agents track user experience on webRequests. The advantage is that Dynatrace correlates the measures on the devices with those on the backend servers, giving us an end-to-end view of the transaction, from the user's phone deep into the backend servers.Dynatrace is an extremely helpful APM solution in large, complex environments, whenever we need to have an integrated vision of our users, infrastructure, and applications.Given the full-stack approach, you are able to view from the end user perspective, almost down to the bare metal.Dynatrace is capable of following all user actions across all monitored infrastructure, even to systems not monitored, but interconnected. The solution is multi-tenant and based in Big data technology.

The most valuable feature is the ability to manage the application flow.It is stable and scalable. The most important thing is that it tells us where the latency in throughput and response time are.

Cons
The problem evaluation feature is an awesome idea, but bit difficult to pick up initially. In the new Dynatrace solution, support for legacy applications is still not there. There is still a certain amount of technical skills needed to be able to understand what you are seeing on it. You also need a large amount of technical or infrastructure skills to understand how and where to install it. This solution needs more powerful database monitoring capabilities. It could improve its GUI interface. The GUI design is too crowded and the icons are small. Sometimes I end up clicking on the wrong button.Product reporting still needs improvement.Session export for offline analysis, like it was in AppMon, would be also nice. Our primary wish list for RFEs or feature requests are additional integration options with ticketing systems. Although, we are able to work around it, 'ticketing' is not a core function of the product.

In addition, its difficult to have a predictive tool to see how the application would behave in the future when it basically only shows the historical data.

Pricing and Cost Advice
Pricing can be high, especially for Portuguese standards. But as one says, you get what you pay for.Setup cost is very low considering that it is an almost totally, automatic process.Licensing is very interesting, as you pay only for what is being monitored. A lot of things are given away for no additional cost. If you have a great IT consolidation, it will be pretty cheap. If you have a lot of servers, it will be heavier.I have not been able to observe more than 1% overhead, despite Dynatrace saying that it can be slightly higher in some situations.I feel the price is good for what the product does.Look at the product and the product features, not the price. Too often people look at the price and turn away. Dynatrace costs a little bit more than the other products I researched, but it can do far more.Time to value was surprisingly fast.Pricing is still too expensive.

New Relic was very easy to both deploy and configure.

Dynatrace is the best of the best when it comes to APM solutions. Here’s why:

Dynatrace uses a single agent for everything which results in fast deployment.
Dynatrace offers a fully on prem solution for organizations needing tight security.
Dynatrace does a deep dive into the code running an application, and can isolate an application issue to the line of code causing it.
Dynatrace has AI built in and learns what is or is not normal behavior so you only get alerts that are meaningful.
The Dynatrace dashboards are awesome out of the box, and they can be customized to provide specific views for the same information. This is useful for an executive looking at the data one way and the programmer looking at the same data from a different view.
Dynatrace can also look at the network traffic flowing between servers to provide a true end-to-end solution.
This is just six of the areas where Dynatrace outshines the rest.
My opinions come from having worked with New Relic, AppDynamics, CA’s APM and Dynatrace. I have been using Dynatrace for four years.

Actually APM market in Korea, there is very few reference sites of New Relic in Korea.
I don't know Dynatrace/Ruxit client in Korea.
Only I know Dynatrace AppMon has a reasonable number of customer in Korea.
I'm working business for APPDYNAMICS, but the current market still require core
APM itself instead of Cloud, Hybrid, multi Servers and Business Analytic, etc.

Both solutions from the same weight category. You should clarify details about your application (language, async call ()yes/now), microservices (yes/no) and etc) and which problems do you want to solve.
You should know one important constraint - NewRelic provide only SaaS service. As of other differencies it's about the same.
