Quotes From Members Comparing Dynatrace vs New Relic APM

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
Through end-user monitoring, we were able to measure the user's perceived performance and build an SLA based on that information.I would give Dynatrace's technical support a 100% rating. I feel like whenever I call or send an email that I get the right person automatically. For the most difficult answers, the most I have to wait is about three days and the answers have been relevant. The benefits we receive using this tool increase productivity, which increase revenue. It helps our organization identify potential problems by doing thorough analysis of systems which integrate with one another. We are not blind anymore with our digital services performance; no more fire fighting.Dynatrace AppMon has allowed a deep dive review of performance problems in near real-time for our primary external website and related web apps and web services.PurePath view of methods and the call stack are extremely valuable for troubleshooting and performance review. We obtained a better insight into our environment and consolidated a lot of our old apps into one app.

The most important thing is that it tells us where the latency in throughput and response time are.As New Relic is already integrated with Drupal, we can get our projects done with best practice and with the best value that we believe in.

Cons
This solution needs more powerful database monitoring capabilities. It could improve its GUI interface. The GUI design is too crowded and the icons are small. Sometimes I end up clicking on the wrong button.Product reporting still needs improvement.Session export for offline analysis, like it was in AppMon, would be also nice. Our primary wish list for RFEs or feature requests are additional integration options with ticketing systems. Although, we are able to work around it, 'ticketing' is not a core function of the product. It needs education and training to ensure you get the full value of your purchase. Maybe add in a certification for Dynatrace. It needs .NET core support to the level of Java.Custom reporting capabilities should be extended, because it now has basic charting capabilities.

Some of our customers see New Relic as a promising product to have, and we would like to deliver it to them. The only way we would be able to do that would be if we had server appliance for clients that we could install in their data centres.

Pricing and Cost Advice
I feel the price is good for what the product does.Look at the product and the product features, not the price. Too often people look at the price and turn away. Dynatrace costs a little bit more than the other products I researched, but it can do far more.Time to value was surprisingly fast.Pricing is still too expensive. They could improve their price ranges, as there is no option for startups or testing. It is quite expensive for startups. The setup costs for Dynatrace are low, however licensing costs are high. The product is really fast to implement and gives customers instant value. This is important, because it reduces costs on the implementation.

If it’s the right tool, it doesn’t matter what it costs because you’re going to get it back many-fold from your productivity. It would be nice if we could buy it annually instead of monthly.

New Relic was very easy to both deploy and configure.

Dynatrace is the best of the best when it comes to APM solutions. Here’s why:

Dynatrace uses a single agent for everything which results in fast deployment.
Dynatrace offers a fully on prem solution for organizations needing tight security.
Dynatrace does a deep dive into the code running an application, and can isolate an application issue to the line of code causing it.
Dynatrace has AI built in and learns what is or is not normal behavior so you only get alerts that are meaningful.
The Dynatrace dashboards are awesome out of the box, and they can be customized to provide specific views for the same information. This is useful for an executive looking at the data one way and the programmer looking at the same data from a different view.
Dynatrace can also look at the network traffic flowing between servers to provide a true end-to-end solution.
This is just six of the areas where Dynatrace outshines the rest.
My opinions come from having worked with New Relic, AppDynamics, CA’s APM and Dynatrace. I have been using Dynatrace for four years.
