We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is easy to scale.""ITSI's most valuable feature is that it's easy to integrate DLP.""Alerts and episodes are valuable to me.""The glass tables are very helpful.""We have a lot of teams using Splunk and they would be blind without it.""We liked the built-in calculation of health scores.""I find the episode review, glass tables, and correlation search features very useful.""The solution has been stable."

"The product is very stable.""It provides high scalability, alerting, notification, templating, and end-to-end security.""It has an intuitive UI with beautiful graphs and customizable maps.""The initial setup, while not simple, is easier than other products.""Dashboard and the customization of the items and triggers are the most valuable features.""The flexible licensing model is one of the solution's most valuable aspects. It really allows for great flexibility for companies.""The most valuable feature is network traffic monitoring.""There are lots of great features and functionality within the solution."

Cons
"Splunk ITSI lacks out-of-the-box solutions for enterprise users.""Predictive analytics, in terms of preventing incidents before they occur, still needs time to mature.""We also faced challenges relating to UI development.""It could be a little easier to use with the thresholding. We've struggled a little bit with thresholding.""Microservices is the only area where Splunk ITSI can be improved. When things come from one EC2 instance to another, there's a lack of exposure to microservices, so we can't know what's happening. Apart from that, it's doing pretty well.""Splunk ITSI generates numerous false positives and has the potential for enhancement.""Splunk ITSI consumes a lot of CPU resources.""We have problems doing upgrades and operating alternate new versions."

"We would like to see the addition of automatic push functionality to this product. This would save time when monitoring our servers and networks as, at present, we have to manually install the Zabbix agent on any hardware to be monitored.""We would like to monitor other touchpoints such as ATM machines. It would be great if it can provide monitoring of ATM machines. Compatibility with other products would also be great.""It should be easy to modify the front end.""If you want to use all of the features then you have to pay a licensing fee.""Zabbix is powerful, but it is difficult to understand initially. There are many things that can be improved, but we might not be using Zabbix to its fullest extent. The software has more features than we need.""I think the reporting part of Zabbix can be improved in terms of more user-friendly graphics to display the collected data. Many simple users who don't know how to use Zabbix properly might get confused by the reporting, although at the same time it is very versatile for my company.""When using this solution in enterprise monitoring, you are able to see that there are some issues with equipment that could be causing a problem. Sometimes you want to make a root command that you do not want to be executed automatically. What we have tried to do is open an SSH session directly from the solution's interface but it is not possible.""There are not too much documentation or manuals. We found the tutorials very easy to understand but do not go deep enough in the use of Zabbix. We need more manuals, proper use, documentation, etc."

I have researched a quite a few network monitoring tools which can be used for various monitoring purposes of not only the servers, but the intermediate routers as well. There are majorly three types of these softwares. Ones which are completely open-source, you can do almost anything you want using these, but they require quite some expertise before you can use them. Then there are the ones that are not open source, the enterprise softwares and cost you some money, but on the other hand, they are extremely easy to set-up and learn. You can have them up and running in a matter of minutes. And then there are those which are completely cloud based. They can be free of cost or charge some money depending on the software. The good thing about these is that you don’t have to install any extra software, and it can be managed completely online but then again these have limited features and you cannot exploit them to the full extent as you can do with the open-source and to some extent the enterprise software, so I won’t suggest you to use these, because these are generally not the complete solutions and require other support software to achieve the same. Below I have listed the outstanding pros and cons of the various Network analyzers that you can look into Nagios Pros: Nagios offers an extensive set of collector plug-ins that allows users to gather performance and availability data from a broad range of operating systems, including  Windows and Netware Nagios… Read more →
