Low-cost, easy to use, and straightforward to set up
Pros and Cons
  • "The stability and performance are great."
  • "This might not be the best solution for a very large organization."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for wireless connectivity to the internet in the office. You can roam around and stay connected easily.

What is most valuable?

It's a good option for SMEs.

The stability and performance are great.

It's very easy to use.

The initial setup is fairly straightforward.

The costs to use the product are very low.

What needs improvement?

This might not be the best solution for a very large organization.

They can continue to improve their offering so that they could be used in the future in large enterprises also. It only uses the local connection and it performs to a lesser extent due to this. It's hard to check on things remotely. For example, if I have a branch office somewhere in another city or even another country and someone tells me that something is wrong with the wi-fi or firewall, if I have a good wi-fi solution (for example Cisco or FortiNet), I can simply connect to an access point there. With Ubiquiti, I cannot do that.

There seem to be no access points in Ubiquiti that allow us to use a double link. There is no link redundancy. If a link fails, I lose an access point.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've used the solution for a few years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable and the performance is good. There are no bugs or glitches. It doesn't crash or freeze.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

This is a good solution for small and medium-sized enterprises and not more than that. It might not scale to the needs of very large companies.

We have up to 100 users at this time.

We will likely increase usage in the future.

How are customer service and support?

I've never had any issues with the product and therefore have never contacted support. I can't speak to how helpful or responsive they would be.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

At a previous job, I did work with Cisco. It's hard to compare the two. Cisco is simply on a different level.

How was the initial setup?

While it can cause some problems in installation if you use a software controller, it's actually pretty easy. If you are familiar with the network protocols it is straightforward.

There's only one person that handles deployment and maintenance tasks. That's me. It's pretty low-maintenance.

What about the implementation team?

I can handle the initial setup myself.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution is relatively cheap. I personally don't pay for the licensing and therefore can't speak to exact pricing.

What other advice do I have?

We are working with the latest version of the solution right now.

If a company is looking for a low-cost option, I would recommend this product.

I'd rate the solution at an eight out of ten. We've been pleased with its general capabilities overall.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Priced well, centralized management, and quality monitoring
Pros and Cons
  • "I have found the most valuable features to be the ability to use the main centralized administration process and the internet."
  • "We use different models of the solution but in some cases, the security could improve in the adaptive portal, be a little more robust, and easier to use."

What is our primary use case?

We use the solution to connect our buildings and stations together.

What is most valuable?

I have found the most valuable features to be the ability to use the main centralized administration process and the internet.

What needs improvement?

We use different models of the solution but in some cases, the security could improve in the adaptive portal, be a little more robust, and easier to use.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using the solution for approximately 10 years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

One of the best features is that the solution sends you constant alarms when you have problems with the service organization. It is stable but could improve.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The scalability of the solution is good. Our clients are typically medium-size businesses. Our clients frequently tell us to install Aruba from HP, Cisco, or Juniper. They see this solution as best suited for small enterprises. We have to explain to them Ubiquiti is working on the security and stability of their wireless network.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support is very poor, this is an area needing improvement. It is difficult to find someone qualified here in Latin America to have an answer to our problems. It can take up to three days for someone to come with a possible solution. We end up browsing the internet for solutions to our problems rather than waiting for support.

How was the initial setup?

The installation was not easy. The documentation was not straightforward and they were not complete. They need to improve on this. We had to navigate the internet to find solutions to many of our issues. There was not one place we could have all the information needed for the installation to go smoothly. The deployment took approximately three days.

What about the implementation team?

We do the implementation of the solution. We use one technician and an engineer to do the maintenance and deployment of the solution. The typical time it takes is approximately one day to make an analysis of the information, find security risks, and make a solution.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

This solution is cheaper compared to others.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

Our clients have evaluated HP and Cisco solutions. They are really expensive. We have to find a solution that has a certain level of quality, that can monitor well, and has good security, this solution matches those needs.

What other advice do I have?

I would recommend this solution. However, they need to work on support services.

I rate Ubiquiti Wireless an eight out of ten.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, secure, and easy to set up
Pros and Cons
  • "Setting it up wasn't so complicated. It is reliable. Security-wise, we didn't have much trouble, but that could be due to our environment. We haven't had so many attacks, at least up till now."
  • "The range and maybe the quality of the signal can be improved. I had a feeling that the range wasn't long enough. Unfortunately, beyond a certain range, the signal was too weak. If I'm not mistaken, it must have been something like 100 or more than 100 meters, but I'm not sure. So, one improvement I wish for this equipment is to have a longer range, but that could mainly be due to the model we're using."

What is most valuable?

Setting it up wasn't so complicated. It is reliable. Security-wise, we didn't have much trouble, but that could be due to our environment. We haven't had so many attacks, at least up till now.

What needs improvement?

The range and maybe the quality of the signal can be improved. I had a feeling that the range wasn't long enough. Unfortunately, beyond a certain range, the signal was too weak. If I'm not mistaken, it must have been something like 100 or more than 100 meters, but I'm not sure. So, one improvement I wish for this equipment is to have a longer range, but that could mainly be due to the model we're using.

In Ubiquiti NanoStation, we have some problems with the reset button. The way the reset button is placed can be very uncomfortable. We lost some of our access points due to the fact that we eventually damaged the reset button. I would prefer a simpler reset button. There could be a kind of toggle button, but that's a matter of engineering.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using this solution for five to six years. We are working with Ubiquiti NanoStation, but they are relatively old now, so we need to renew our equipment.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is reliable.

How was the initial setup?

It wasn't complicated to set it up.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We don't buy directly. We have our finance department that buys things. My speculation on the price is that because we buy from private companies and because the product is imported, people tend to give us at higher prices. This is due to the fact that it is government procurement. So, sometimes, they are not paid directly, and they have to go through the whole administrative process before they are paid. So, they tend to compensate by increasing the price, but I won't be able to say what is the exact price.

What other advice do I have?

I would rate Ubiquiti Wireless an eight out of 10.

A solution with a decent portal but needs a more enterprise feel
Pros and Cons
  • "It has a decent portal, and it is usable."
  • "Everything needs to be professionally done."

What is our primary use case?

The solution is deployed primarily on cloud.

What is most valuable?

Compared to industry standard brands that are used, it doesn't do anything better than any of them. However, it has a decent portal, and it is usable.

What needs improvement?

The solution needs a more enterprise feel of the product, and everything needs to be professionally done. Additionally, technical support and the stability of the product can be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using the solution for approximately seven years.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is stable but not as much as similar products.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. Approximately one thousand people are connected to it.

How are customer service and support?

We have not had a good experience with customer service and support. They are virtually non-existent.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was easy and took approximately half a day.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing is reasonable.

What other advice do I have?

I rate the solution five out of ten. Technical support and the stability of the product can be improved.

An easy to configure and scalable solution
Pros and Cons
  • "The solution has an easy configuration."
  • "The mesh configuration and WiFi 6 coverage should be improved."

What is our primary use case?

The solution has an easy configuration. We use this solution for showcases at our organization. We use it in the case of UB-KIT for guests and production for the wireless WLAN segment.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable features are the double PA in 802.1X authentication and the radio server.

What needs improvement?

The mesh configuration and WiFi 6 coverage should be improved.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using this solution for two years on private and on-premises.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is a stable solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

It is a scalable solution. We have approximately 15 users using this solution in private and 12 or 13 on guess connection. There are three people responsible for maintenance.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We used Cisco Meraki and Aruba in the past and switched to Ubiquiti because it has a better configuration.

How was the initial setup?

The installation took two days to complete. It was complex to install because of the radio server authentication and integration with the active directory.

What about the implementation team?

We did not use a third party to install it, and we completed it ourselves.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

Ubiquiti Wireless is not expensive.

What other advice do I have?

I rate this solution a ten out of ten.

Easy to deploy and offers great pricing but upgrades happen too often
Pros and Cons
  • "It's very easy to deploy."
  • "We'd like them to improve aspects of device management."

What is our primary use case?

We primarily use the solution for a wireless connection for our hotel and resort.

What is most valuable?

The solution offers good management.

The maintenance of the product is very simple and straightforward.

It's very easy to deploy.

You can see everything on one dashboard.

The product can scale well.

We have found the solution to be pretty cheap.

What needs improvement?

The product makes upgrades too often. They are always changing things. It can be hard to keep up.

We'd like them to improve aspects of device management. For us, for example, some of the access points are managed by a Ubiquiti controller, and others are managed by an AirMax controller.

For how long have I used the solution?

We've used the solution for six or seven years. We've ended up staying with it for a long time.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Some solutions are stable. Others are not. Maybe we don't use the right ones and we have to change them and put them in the right place. It's possible we are using non-appropriate devices.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The solution is scalable. It can expand well.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I've only used this solution. I've never used, for example, Cisco or Aruba.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The solution offers pretty good pricing. they aren't expensive. I'd rate the cost at a four out of five in terms of value for money.

What other advice do I have?

I'd rate the solution a seven out of ten. We are mostly satisfied with the product.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Installation is easy and the coverage is good, but we have issues with performance and support
Pros and Cons
  • "This access point provides internet to every lab on campus, including the computer laboratory"
  • "One of the Ubiquiti access points broke down, and it can't be used. It's still down now, so overall Ubiquiti hasn't been a good experience for me."

What is our primary use case?

Ubiquiti is deployed in the five-floor building that houses the integrated laboratory for my vocational school. This access point provides internet to every lab on campus, including the computer laboratory.

For how long have I used the solution?

I've been using Ubiquiti since 2015 or so.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

One of the Ubiquiti access points broke down, and it can't be used. It's still down now, so overall Ubiquiti hasn't been a good experience for me.

How are customer service and support?

We're extremely disappointed with Ubiquiti support. We need more local support.

How would you rate customer service and support?

Negative

How was the initial setup?

Installing Ubiquiti is easy.

What other advice do I have?

I rate Ubiquiti Wireless five out of 10. I wouldn't recommend it.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Reliable, with no captive portals, that is simple, and quick to install
Pros and Cons
  • "It functions properly and includes centralized management for access points and switches."
  • "They have access points that are in the firewalls, and I believe the firewalls could be significantly better. They use the USG firewall, which I believe is a poor device. VPNs for example, it is really bad, it is difficult to configure, and I don't like them at all."

What is our primary use case?

At home, I use it for myself. There are no captive portals or anything like that, only wireless access. Only wifi.

What is most valuable?

It functions properly and includes centralized management for access points and switches.

What needs improvement?

They have access points that are in the firewalls, and I believe the firewalls could be significantly better.

They use the USG firewall, which I believe is a poor device. VPNs for example, it is really bad, it is difficult to configure, and I don't like them at all.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been working with Ubiquiti Wireless for two or three years.

I am not working with the latest version. I try to update to the latest version once in a while.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Ubiquiti Wireless is very stable.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

I have not yet experimented with the scalability of Ubiquiti Wireless.

I am using it at home.

How are customer service and support?

I have not contacted technical support.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have worked with Cisco Routers.

For testing, and learning purposes, I have been using CentOS, which is now Almal Linux or Rocky Linux.

I have also worked with Sophos and Bitdefender.

I have used Mikro Tik.

How was the initial setup?

It is quite easy to set up.

It most likely took me an hour.

What about the implementation team?

I watched some Youtube videos.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

There is no licensing fee required.

I think the price is okay for the product, but the price could always be cheaper.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I work as a system engineer and research solutions at home. I switched to a different product after a few years.

What other advice do I have?

Three years ago, I would have, but things have since shifted a bit. I prefer to have everything at home. Ubiquiti requires a cloud account now, which I don't like, therefore I wouldn't recommend it at this time.

I would rate Ubiquiti Wireless an eight out of ten.
