I would like to be able to export some documents into PDFs a little easier.             Right now, only HR can update the training record and as you scale your company, managing the system can be manual and time consuming.

The assessments must be improved. We cannot add more questions to the assessments if we want to. When I asked the HR team to do it, they said they spoke with BambooHR, and it is not possible to configure it. The assessment must be configurable. We should be able to add or remove questions for the employees or the peer reviews. The HR team also complains about the recruitment feature. We used to use the recruitment features, but we abandoned them because it was very limited.

There are some issues with the job tab under my info where you add the salary. So, if you add the monthly salary, for example, because this is what we're using. It's a custom in our country to refer to it as the monthly amount and not the annual amount, but sometimes I need it. If they had this calculated automatically, it would help a lot. If you entered the annual amount, you would have to calculate it yourself and then insert the annual amount. However, if I insert the monthly amount, it would be helpful if the system would give me the annual amount automatically.

Also, the solution should be made globally available.

In the BambooHR performance management annual evaluations we have some limits to the questions. We can only add four extra questions, and they already have three basic questions, this is not easy for us. We would like to have more flexibility with the questions.

In a future release, the time tracking for the employees could improve. In order to set the time tracking, we need to add the compensation and all the personal information of the employees. If we could use the time tracking without the compensation, that would be great.

The performance could be improved. When you save some documents, it takes longer to store them in BambooHR's systems than it used to. Something needs to be upgraded or fixed in the code. Alow, we provide services to other companies, so Bamboo isn't able to help us in many areas because of the way we work.

I would like the ability to use the performance appraisal for Bamboo no matter how many Bamboos I have. Furthermore, it should be easier to transfer an employee from one company to another. They have a feature now, but it's not helpful. We get a lot of errors when we move it from one Bamboo to the other.

I can download the information from company A and transfer it to company B, but I need to make three different downloads and upload them to the system. Sometimes, it doesn't work properly, and some information is missing. The information goes to different areas based on tags. It's much easier if you have a linked connection where you can take the same information and move it to the same place. All the Bamboos for the companies I use have the same formatting.

BambooHR could be improved by managing leave in a way that transfers remaining days at the end of the annual year to the following year. Leave days at the end of a year are currently calculated manually by our HR team which is time consuming.

Something that was difficult when we started using Bamboo, was the ability to import data in an Excel format. For example, we had one Excel sheet with half the information including first name, surname etc. We wanted to import all of the information into one database and this was impossible. We had to import it manually. 

If you are dealing with two or more businesses under one company name, it is not possible to transfer employees between companies if they have a separate bamboo set up.

In a future release, I would like to have an interface that can integrate with different software. This would save time when importing data to complete payroll.

I would like to see BambooHR allow for more than 10 jobs to be posted. I am sure large agencies have a need to fill more than just 10 jobs at a time. I would also like to see the system allow for more than three signatures on documents. Some of my documents I need five signatures.

Sometimes, the email alerts act funny and do not show up. If I put a new date in for, say a child abuse clearance, before the previous one is expired, it will not send an alert for the new date, but the previous date.

Also, when I send an electronic hire packet, if there are forms that the employee and myself have to sign, after I sign, it comes back in my email twice for each form. It should only come back once with all signatures attached.

It would be good to include more options for approvals and workflows.

They are deliberately not the most sophisticated version of anything that they do, but it is like 80/20. They hit the vast majority of all the needs, but I have started to run up against the limits of their functionality. It has forced me to start paying attention to the marketplace or sending feedback to BambooHR. Clients are still happy though.

Timesheets is a new area in which they're slowly expanding. It is currently very limited, but it meets the needs of standard nine-to-five salary employees who just want to be able to key in their time, have it approved, and then pushed off to payroll. It does not have any of the bells and whistles that an hourly employee or hourly worker might need. That is one area that is currently limited, but they have integrations with some of the best companies that do that.

  • The time off area is still rather clunky. It is not as intuitive as other sections.
  • People generally need to be shown how to use it. I don’t have the flexibility to handle sickness in different ways, and the number it shows for annual leave available does not show what people expect.
  • I can’t do a point-in-time report. For example, "How many active employees were there on 1, Jan, 2017?"
  • If I enter something with a date in the future, e.g., a pay raise, it makes it seem as if that is the current status quo. If I do a report of current pay, it will give me the number I entered with the latest date, even if the date of that is in the future.
  • I’d like to be able to build my own tables and tick boxes (e.g., an easy way to check how many people have a signed contract).
  • I am in the UK, but their support team works US hours.

User manual in Spanish: It's hard to update because there are updates in the website constantly.

It would be useful for our company if BambooHR could have an updated procedure manual in Spanish for employees, with descriptions of the steps to perform tasks. In our company, we have developed a procedure manual and we frequently update it, in order to simplify the procedure for the employees, because there is no Spanish manual.

As an international company, there are several administrators in different countries making changes to the system and there is no way of knowing who has made a change, which can be frustrating. It would be nice if administrators could access a log to see who has done what and when.

There is no human capital/workforce planning capabilities at this time. You can keep all of your current employee information, as well as all of your terminated employees.

However, where we really need the product to improve is on planning. We would love to put our upcoming open heads into the plan for the entire fiscal year. We do this to improve our budget planning, as well as also including some forecasted turnover. This type of planning helps us organize our resources and be better prepared as a strategic HR department.

  • Performance Management: Only 1 reviewer per employee. The performance module only allows 1 reviewer (manager) to review each employee. We typically need to gather feedback from multiple people, so we have to create Google forms to gather the data from the others.

    There is a peer feedback portion which does help.
  • ATS: Improved tracking of source of applications. The ATS has been very helpful, but it doesn't do a great job of determining where our applicants are coming from in terms of job boards. This information is very useful in determining what sources are effective for quality candidates, so we have resorted to manually tracking this data.

  • Benefits enrolment and tracking. There are more robust versions, if you want to buy an add-on.
  • There isn't a way to give everyone access at the same time when launching. For groups where they have over 50 employees, turning on access for each person became a tedious task.

Effective dates: the system cannot exclude from reports the changes that will be effective in the future: e.g. salary, new joiners.

It is not possible to have automated adjustment of vacation according to the work time: Part time employees who work less than 5 days a week shall get automatically less vacation. Some employees have changes in their working hours more than once a year; there is still to much manual work.

The system allows to book vacation and sick day at the same time. There should be a warning in case somebody overlooks it.

It’s a great product, but it’s not perfect. There are some areas of reporting that could be improved, as well as features and functions of the ATS/recruitment, as this is a newer function in general. But BambooHR are really happy to hear your feedback and I’ve even had them reach out to discuss some feedback I gave in more detail.

Specifically, I work for 2 managers. In my profile, our administrator wasn’t able to add 2 managers. So when I put in a request for vacation time, it only goes to one of my managers for approval and not to the other one, since it only allows one manager in my profile.

It would be great, if there is a function to add another manager to my profile.

  • Have an integration to Slack or 3rd-party network to notify with fewer emails sent.
  • Ability to control what is sent to you.
