What is most valuable?

The most important feature is that it performs disaster backups. That's the only reason we use it, and it's going well so far. It's the only feature we need. It has a lot… more»

How has it helped my organization?

We have eight customers who are running their entire virtualized servers on our cloud platform. We use the Vembu software to create a disaster backup of all those servers… more»

What needs improvement?

It's hard to say what can be improved since we only use one specific feature of the backup software, and we haven't even looked at or used the other functionalities. We've… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

From my perspective as an engineer, I appreciate the support of Vembu's people, they think along with us. They came up with the possibility of converting our existing… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

The main selling point for us to try Vembu software was its pricing. We had no experience with it before, we just found it using Google, searching for products that could… more»

What other advice do I have?

The best advice I can give is to give it a shot. You can get a trial license of Vembu and experiment with the software. Try it out to see if it's something that fits the… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at Veeam, since that is the most known backup product. But it's in a completely different price range than Vembu, so that's why we decided to give Vembu a shot… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature of this solution is the integration with cloud services. I do not have to use an external application, such as Veeam, to back up files or VMs. It works like a standard… more»

What needs improvement?

Technical support for this solution is good but it can still be improved. The user interface is a little bit confusing and it could be better. It took some time to learn, although I was able to read… more»

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The pricing of this solution is ok, but I'm expecting that the price will decrease in the future.

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Previously, we used other backup solutions, but this is our first cloud backup solution. We used to use NetBackup and a backup solution from HP, but these were on-premises deployments. We chose… more»

What other advice do I have?

I came from a Unix environment in the past, and I was not really a Microsoft or Windows users. Now, however, I'm more confident with Microsoft products. I worked for HPE for a long time in a private… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

I have used many different backup solutions, and in my experience, none of them will do everything. Each of them has pros and cons. You have to choose a backup solution based on several aspects… more»

What is most valuable?

From a tech perspective: * Utilizing deduplication * No replication * Getting the virtual environment backed up using Spectrum Protect Plus on all of the databases.

How has it helped my organization?

We currently use Tivoli Data Protection to back up our databases. Spectrum Protect is actually the application which backs up the file system data, then anytime you want to back up the databases you… more»

What needs improvement?

I would love to see something which allows us to do an auto restart of backup jobs. Right now, we have it where we have health checks, and if anything that missed or failed, we monitor those. However… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We came from version 7.1.3. Based on some of the features which were offered in version 8, this was the focal point for us to say, "We need to upgrade if we want to take advantage of using container… more»

What other advice do I have?

Look at all the products in the industry, then base your decision on the size of your environment. A lot of times products say that have cool things, but at the end of the day, scalability and… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We looked at Veeam and Rubrik, but right now, we have the two best products. We have Commvault and Spectrum Protect. Each one of them are the best at different things and each have their weaknesses… more»

What is most valuable?

The central pane view is the most valuable feature. You have one console where you can monitor all your jobs, as opposed to going to different vCenters.

How has it helped my organization?

Our organization is strengthened because we have NetBackup and we tend to use SnapCenter as the primary backup and recovery software. NetBackup has proven to be more the long-term archiving or storage… more»

What needs improvement?

The integration with the vCenter could be better in the sense that the only plain view you have is the data stores. In previous versions of the plugin for the VSC, before Snap Center, you could view… more»

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

We're using NetBackup. We haven't replaced any solution.

What other advice do I have?

It works. It's reliable. There are no real negative aspects. It's a very solid product. We only have one dedicated user. We haven't defined roles, we haven't used that functionality. We just provide… more»

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We evaluated SnapCenter vs Veeam. We found that since SnapCenter was integrated and there's zero cost involved because we had all the licenses, there wasn't a need to purchase something else. We have… more»

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is the Live Boot solution. It's a feature on the Barracuda that is very helpful for critical service. Whenever you have a crash or your service is not working, you can just live-boot the machine and have your… more»

What needs improvement?

It would be a big improvement if the Live Boot feature could work without the need for a secondary, standby server. I would like to see the Live Boot feature extended to Hyper-V machines, in addition to VMware machines.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

We bought a five-year package, as opposed to paying a yearly licensing fee. The price of the five-year contract was approximately three million Rupees ($42,000 USD).

If you previously used a different solution, which one did you use and why did you switch?

Prior to this solution, we were using Veeam backup. We had a few issues with them in terms of scalability, so we were unable to continue using Veeam. This is the main reason we switched to Barracuda.

What other advice do I have?

My advice for anybody who is implementing this solution is to ensure that it is adapted to all of the current hardware that you have. Prepare yourself to upgrade the solution, if needed, for at least five years. The biggest lesson that I… more»
