Bot Runner enables you to have multiple bots running in parallel
Pros and Cons
  • "Bot Runner - The Bot Runner is the machine where you run the bot. You could have multiple bots running in parallel. You only need the Run License to run the bots. The bots report back the execution logs/pass/fail status back to the control room."
  • "Autosuggestion of existing use cases based on the problem statement could use improvement."

What is our primary use case?

Batch JOB processing and Monitoring which was a manual activity earlier.

We've done a lot of automation with the product in the last two years. We started with accounts receivable processes in finance. I would say the AR function is one of the most mature functions in the product right now because we almost automated all the aspects of accounts receivable.

We have also started looking at automating the accounts payable process as well. I've only mentioned finance at this point, but we also have done a lot of automation with IT, as well as with procurement. Right now, the penetration is higher with the support functions but we are also looking at different ways to automate. For example, we would like to use automation technology in core engineering. We also want to be expansive and do projects beyond our current boundaries — outside of just India. We've already done a small PoC (proof of concept) with a company in China and we also automated three small processes with a U.S. entity.

We use it daily and have done projects with support functions, such as financial services, IT, and procurement support. We have 50 to 60 processes that have been automated using RPA in all three areas put together. This is the breadth and extent of what we have automated. We are using the on-premise deployment model.

How has it helped my organization?

Automation Anywhere helps to automate much of the manual activity. There are already a few inbuild use case builds which we have used and expands for our convenience.

We use it to automate all kinds of business processes. The primary use case is the RPA platform, even though they have the cognitive platform and the analytics platform. We use it for so many different things it's hard to focus on one, but it's automating business processes in our banking system. We're interfacing a lot with Excel, our ERP systems, some legacy systems, the databases, file folders, text files, CSVs. It's hard to pin down one.

What is most valuable?

  • Intelligent automation for business and IT tasks.
  • Uses SMART Automation Technology

Bot Creator- Developers use desktop-based applications to create bots. Their dev licenses are checked with that configured in the control room. On authentication, the code of the bots they create is stored in the control room. Different developers may create individual tasks/bots. These bots could be merged and executed at once.

Bot Runner - The Bot Runner is the machine where you run the bot. You could have multiple bots running in parallel. You only need the Run License to run the bots. The bots report back the execution logs/pass/fail status back to the control room.

What needs improvement?

Autosuggestion of existing use cases based on the problem statement could use improvement.

My primary use cases are where I'm dealing with a lot of raw data extraction and transformation so that the data can be used by other systems. An example would be getting the data out of PDF files, transforming it from semi-structured to structured, and putting it into an extra-stable system like Excel or a CSV so that it can be used by other systems. Listed are low hanging fruits and will boost the confidence of the stakeholders in the RPA deployment, recommend to look at such use cases when looking at Automation Anywhere and its implementation.

IQ Bot provides the ability to integrate with in-house or external AI functions
Pros and Cons
  • "We found that RPA with additional AI capabilities, such as machine learning and Computer Vision, can enable the organization to augment existing business operations by creating efficiencies and improving the accuracy of data to be processed, without changing too much of the existing system."
  • "The improvements that we could see would be the increased stability of each A2019 releases and reduce the likely impact on existing features. We are also looking to see improvements in the upgrade and bot deployment processes to make them easier and less interaction with back end servers."

What is our primary use case?

We use the platform to help our customers by building automation solutions in order to solve their business problems. The use cases include AP processing, form data extraction, data collection, and Excel reporting.

We use a combination of RPA and IQ Bot to deal with semi-structured or unstructured data, such as documents and images. We also use Bot Insights for business process analytics and bot operation health checks.

The platform is deployed using an on-premise configuration and connected to multiple bot runners, running in virtualized environments.

How has it helped my organization?

We found that RPA with additional AI capabilities, such as machine learning and Computer Vision, can enable the organization to augment existing business operations by creating efficiencies and improving the accuracy of data to be processed, without changing too much of the existing system.

This will reduce the change cost and help business units to elevate their existing teams, processes, and systems so that they can focus on higher-value tasks that require creativity to perform.

The handwriting recognition capability in IQ Bot is particularly interesting, as we can see a high level of accuracy in extracting handwritten texts.

What is most valuable?

The IQ Bot component has enabled the business to quickly identify the different documents and provide the ability to integrate with in-house or external AI functions. This enables us to extend the initial document extraction facility to transform the information into key decision-making attributes. The document training facility has made it easy to identify select-extract the components on the documents and it is also capable to recognize handwriting context with the help of pre-configured Azure AI services.

What needs improvement?

The improvements that we could see would be the increased stability of each A2019 releases and reduce the likely impact on existing features. We are also looking to see improvements in the upgrade and bot deployment processes to make them easier and less interaction with back end servers.

We are also to see more features to be added to seamlessly transition between human and bot tasks in the long-running process. We are also keen to see the new AARI feature develop into a voice-enabled command activation to run the bot process.

For how long have I used the solution?

We have been using Automation Anywhere for more than a year, ever since its release in 2019.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The A2019 in early releases had been quite unstable to our experience. However, since A2019.14 there seem to be improvements in this area and so far we haven’t seen any major issues that impact the existing features we are using. For any of the new features, we suggest to always check on the release notes and understand the limitations of the features before using them in your solution.

How are customer service and technical support?

The technical support team has been prompt and helpful in addressing issues coming out of the platform. There is a limitation in having multiple admin accounts to view the same ticket information but we were told that a new improved system will be implemented to address this limitation.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We use a process-based workflow automation solution and we actually still use them to deal with long-running processes as they have more extensive features to deal with workflow-based problems. However, we see RPA can help in complementing the process by automating the mundane tasks of the process and getting greater efficiency for the business as well as reducing the likelihood of human errors.

How was the initial setup?

The installation is quite straightforward as they provide us with an installer package that guides you through using wizards. But the pre and post-installation process can be quite complex and laborious depending on what features you need to enable. In some cases, these feature configurations require the underlying services to be restarted from the server backend. When using virtualized environments in the cloud connecting on an internal network domain, there would be extra care needed on the network configurations to ensure communication channels between the machines are properly connected.

What about the implementation team?

We deployed in-house.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

You need to be mindful about the initial server costs if you go with an on-premise deployment model as the specification can surprise some of your stakeholders. For licensing, always try to get through reselling partners for getting more customized and better prices.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We observed all major players in the RPA space such as UiPath, BluePrism, and WorkFusion. There are also some companies that operate in a specific market that we looked at.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

Saves our clients time using IQ Bot and the powerful scheduling options
Pros and Cons
  • "IQ Bot is the most important feature and it has been extensively used by our clients."
  • "I feel A2019 is still not completely ready and the discontinuing of version 11 is a negative impact for all of the users and clients."

What is our primary use case?

I work as an RPA developer where I use the Automation Anywhere software.

How has it helped my organization?

We work with many clients, wherein we automate their processes. We get positive feedback from the client regarding the processes that we have developed. It saves a lot of their manual time and most of their work is done by the bot, without any human intervention. So far, we have all positive views.

What is most valuable?

IQ Bot is the most important feature and it has been extensively used by our clients. With all of the new features of IQ bot, I feel it is the most utilized component of Automation Anywhere.

The scheduling/triggering of the bots from the CR, without going to the actual environment and starting the bot, is an interesting feature.

What needs improvement?

I feel A2019 is still not completely ready and the discontinuing of version 11 is a negative impact for all of the users and clients. I feel version 11 should still be continued and it should be the client's choice whether they want to buy version 11 or A2019.

For how long have I used the solution?

I have been using automation anywhere for the past two and a half years.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

I have not used another RPA, although I have worked on several versions of Automation Anywhere. I have developed in version 10, version 11, and currently on A2019.

Although I'm new to the A2019 version, I find that version 11 was the most user-friendly version of all.

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The price of this product is good.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We did not evaluate other options before choosing Automation Anywhere.

Helps in increasing productivity, reduces the cost of the whole operation, and makes fewer errors
Pros and Cons
  • "I implemented AA in different environments, the AA installation is the smoothest compared to other RPA software installs."
  • "Bringing a DevOps model for bot implementation integrated through private bot store might be a good idea to improve the tool."

What is our primary use case?

I am a platform architect for the RPA so I deal with all 3 major RPA vendors. I build the Infra for all big setups. I have immense experience plan, design, and building the setup on cloud, on-prem and with different configurations.

I implemented AA in different environments, the AA installation is the smoothest compared to other RPA software installs.

Migration is a little challenging since it requires direct integration with DB, credential vault and all that. Since multiple credentials are involved, it is a challenge to get all the credentials, it should be easier if only the control room credential was required. Versioning migration is still a challenge.

How has it helped my organization?

My company uses AA extensively for internal BPO work as well as we refer and deploy it to the customer as a RPaaS model. It helps in increasing productivity, reducing the cost of the whole operation. It makes fewer errors and in the COVID situation proves to be a reliable workhorse.

We implemented a lot of new environments recently. v10 expiry and COVID situation accelerated the implementations. Compared to older days now all implementation of infra bot happened pretty quickly.

Bot with Citrix integration may require a lot of improvement but having any extra feature really helps in complex implementation.

The cloud templates for implementation helped greatly and it helps us in pushing the software fast.

What is most valuable?

  • The OCR integration came a long way. They have intelligence inbuilt into it.
  • Ease of deploying and the KB article really help people to just read and deploy different 3rd part components as well(svn, DB, LB, etc) .
  • Nowadays, the screen scraping techniques evolved in RPA and it is good to see they are in play which was not the case couple of years ago.
  • HBC is most suitable for COVID times.
  • The RPaas offering will help customer to use it for less number of bots.
  • AD security group integration is a good feature
  • AI sense is good too.

What needs improvement?

They need to concentrate lot on a nonpersistent RPA model. Integrate IQ bot with AA instead of making it as a separate component, since nowadays intelligent bots need to be integrated into RPA core. Instead of bot agents getting installed on the machines, concentrate on making it independent of the system and only as a plugin in the browser.

It doesn't have an independent small install for developers and always requires to be fully installed.

Bringing a DevOps model for bot implementation integrated through private bot store might be a good idea to improve the tool.

For how long have I used the solution?

I being using it since couple of years, i am impressed by the transformation from v10 to v11 and v11 to A2019.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

The solution is pretty stable, we didn't face many issues. Once the instalation is done the control room core architecture wont face many issues.there are quick fixes like service restart if anything goes off. but most of the time we hear AA support suggesting us to reinstall with the new version of software for performance issues, but with my experiance i hardly see that making huge differnce in fixing the actual issue.

Monitoring can be done through email alerts for the core infrastructure. Issues mainly in HA(High Availability) with cluster sync issues still not monitored at the dashboard level, which might be a concern if the cluster goes out of sync. At the bot implementation lot of things are dependent on the way we code so it's additional work for the developer to get the code keeping in mind all the events which might happen. I would have been impressed if the solution had framework at the control room level to keep track of the overal execution and transactions, hope they can bring that feature in future releases

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

We never faced any issues with scalability for AA. sometime it takes high CPU on CR, but that is expected. one of the frequent questions we encouter with HA setups is the single point failure of repository storages, i understand that this needs to be taken care by storage fault tolerance, however most organization might not use cloud for RPA and if we are doing on prem install they might not have a high resillenace storage. SQL availability group still needs a SQL expert to get that right and DR solution totally depends on the underlaying infra we work on (there may be lot of alternative solution and its a big discussion to be honest :-)   )

Hence HA and DR solution really require a expert like us who have extensive knowledge on RPA, cloud, infra, windows and SQL

How are customer service and technical support?

They offer excellent customer service. No complaints except that every time they ask for a software upgrade as soon as they hear about an issue, which is not actually a good solution. Otherwise, they have very good knowledge of most of the issues.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

We keep switching between RPA software for a number of reasons. We prefer AA for the following reasons:

  • Low cost for run licenses compare to other RPA solutions
  • A high number of certified developers help in bring efficient automation compared to others, they in turn promote the RPA software that they know of.
  • Easy to program, no prior experience of programming required.
  • Easy to use compared to other RPA.

How was the initial setup?

The initial setup was straightforward, even a complex setup can be set up in 20 mins if you have all prerequisites.setup can be complex if there is a HA , DR implementation, as a architects we need to factor in lot of variables. some are target application access,  MFA for the application or windows authentication, credential management, data accessibility, network reachability , underlaying hardware, PaaS offering in cloud(depends on the cloud) , VDI or VM template to choose (Makes huge difference in performance and costing), citrix or native application . Overall simple install, but huge planning to figure out the overall feasibility and effectiveness of implementation

What about the implementation team?

We implemented in-house. I implement it within Accenture and for customers as well. I rate my self pretty high for implementation. I have solid experiance (AA master) as well as cloud certification. I have 12 years experiance in infra, so expect a good solid backgroup on both AA and infra.

What was our ROI?

ROI is important for the business case. ROI is good if you are going for long run, year on year. i never stayed on a project till we start getting the actual values, i see nowadays ROI is shrinking due to RPA vendors raising thier license costs , additional cost added to get the complex RPA solutions to be implemented

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

The setup cost for AA is always fixed since the configuration won't change much for the different number of bots, the license cost is lower in AA,

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

We usually evaluate Blue Prism and UiPath along with AA for implementation. We decide based on the requirements.

Which deployment model are you using for this solution?

The Bot Store lets developers create different bots and put them into that marketplace
Pros and Cons
  • "Scalability is one of the best things about most of the RPA bots. Once you create one, scalability is just about multiplying them."
  • "Some things that I do not see as of today are interactive chat or video interface. These are things that I will look for in future. I saw something like picture recognition, but something like a video or voice recognition is something that I'm looking for in the Automation Anywhere platform as an end user and even as a reseller."

What is our primary use case?

In the digitization space, Automation Anywhere has some of the new bots, which are really good. This is making the invoice digitization as a use case quite helpful. The user interface is very interactive and easy to use. At the same time, for giving results, it looks very impressive. That is the use case that we are working on currently. That is one of the best use cases that I have dealt with from Automation Anywhere.

How has it helped my organization?

I think most of the keystroke level activities that users used to do in probably the last five years is now taken care completely by Automation Anywhere and similar RPA providers. They are now getting into the next segment of AI. I deal personally with a lot of AI tools in my company, which has got a lot of use cases in this industry. I see Automation Anywhere now getting into this particular segment, and it's very good for the industry

What is most valuable?

The Bot Store is something very impressive because it is one place where you find a lot of free bots that you can test and try different bots. At the same time, you have developers who can create different bots and put them into that marketplace so multiple people can use those bots. It is a win-win situation both for the developers, Automation Anywhere, and even the customers.

What needs improvement?

Some things that I do not see as of today are interactive chat or video interface. These are things that I will look for in future. I saw something like picture recognition, but something like a video or voice recognition is something that I'm looking for in the Automation Anywhere platform as an end user and even as a reseller.

For how long have I used the solution?

5 years

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

Stability is great from what I hear from the users. As I'm the sales division, I get this feedback from my operations team. Even the technology support that Automation Anywhere provides is very good. At the same time, they have a lot of good B2B services at very low costs which helps in the end-to-end development, deployment, and successful implementations.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Scalability is one of the best things about most of the RPA bots. Once you create one, scalability is just about multiplying them. We've not had challenges with scalability, given we provide the right infrastructure.

How are customer service and technical support?

As mentioned above this support has been good and we always look forward for continued support here

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

As a service provider company we have worked in alternate service provider. This is client specific

How was the initial setup?

Straight forward

What about the implementation team?

We are the vendor team here

What was our ROI?

6 Months to 1.6 years depending on the process we looking to automate

What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?

may not be able to comment here.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

UI path and AA are the ones on top when we compare

What other advice do I have?

I would surely rate it as a 10 (out of 10). There are other RPA providers as well in this good range, but I think AA is in the top three. I would rate it ten along with another competitor as well who's doing well for us.

If you are new to automation, do try Automation Anywhere or a similar partner. Once you do that, then there's a lot more in the market to explore, e.g., you have the big players, like IBM Watson, Azzure, AWS etc. and one place stop will be a company like Wipro which can help you chose a mix. If you're not started anywhere, then I would recommend to start with Automation Anywhere for RPA.

Helps us avoid repetitive tasks and save dollars
Pros and Cons
  • "In version 11.3, they have a good security option. Tool-wise, it's pretty good to work on Automation Anywhere. If you compare it to other tools in the industry. It is very user-friendly and easy to develop processes. We liking using it very much."
  • "We do plenty of manual processing every day. This is repetitive work where an employee will come and do the same task. The tool helps us to avoid those repetitive tasks and save dollars."
  • "Unwanted windows are popping up. We have to train a bot to recognize the window if it comes up, know what it is, and click it. If it is interrupting our bot, I just want to avoid that window, because I am getting failed logs."
  • "When a bot is in production, sometimes the keystrokes will not work. I am not sure why, and we have tried to contact technical support. They said that they don't have an answer for this. It happens in the the remote environment when we are deploying a bot into AWS machines. So, technical support said this happens in AWS machines sometimes: If the bot is running and the machine is locked, then at that time, the key strokes will not work. They have provided that solution, but we are trying to avoid keystrokes now."

What is our primary use case?

Our company's main application is the SAP application, so we are trying to automate SAP and associated manual work processes.

How has it helped my organization?

We do plenty of manual processing every day. This is repetitive work where an employee will come and do the same task. The tool helps us to avoid those repetitive tasks and save dollars.

What is most valuable?

The most valuable feature is that it supports MetaBot for SAP applications. This is very useful for us when automating. Due to some failures with the MetaBot recording option, we are also trying to capture the things using object cloning, which is a good option too.

In version 11.3, they have a good security option. Tool-wise, it's pretty good to work on Automation Anywhere. If you compare it to other tools in the industry. It is very user-friendly and easy to develop processes. We liking using it very much.

They have launched the recent version A2019. That version will be very helpful for us.

What needs improvement?

Sometimes, the MetaBot fails using the recording option.

In previous versions, there were some limitations. There wasn't proper security when it came to credentials. We tried storing credentials, but the security level wasn't great.

When a bot is in production, sometimes the keystrokes will not work. They have provided that solution, but we are trying to avoid keystrokes now.

Unwanted windows are popping up. We have to train a bot to recognize the window if it comes up, know what it is, and click it. If it is interrupting our bot, I just want to avoid that window, because I am getting failed logs.

For how long have I used the solution?

We started with the tool a year and a half year ago.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

It is not 100 percent stable. We are trying to process a flow and will receive unexpected windows. The issues is that Windows will upgrade something on the back-end and the bot will fail. This is not a development issue. It is a Windows issue from their upgrades and pop-ups. We are trying to avoid that.

So, we are trying to develop an IQ Bot because of this. As of now, we haven't tried the IQ Bot, we have just installed IQ Bot and are trying to develop it. We have to train IQ Bot.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

Nothing is stopping us to increase our scalability. The scalability is good.

How are customer service and technical support?

Technical support from Automation Anywhere is pretty good. When I raise a ticket to them, they respond very quickly and try to resolve the problems which we are facing day-to-day.

We are now very stable with the tool and not having any issues. When we started with Automation Anywhere, we had issues. We contacted technical support, and they helped us.

Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?

When this technology first came to market, I thought it was about robotic things, which we cannot do. However, when I started to learn about Automation Anywhere, it's completely different. It's a user friendly tool with drag and drop commands. A person just needs technical, logical thinking.

How was the initial setup?

When we started, we were not aware of the entire architecture of Automation Anywhere. It was like a new technology. I have a partial technical background, so I could easily understand the tool and its architecture. However, I observed that non-technical team members could also easily understand Automation Anywhere's commands. They way that the bots are built makes it very easy for non-technical people to understand the logic pieces if they have logic skills. They can develop bots. Compared to other tools, where users should have some technical knowledge, this is an excellent differentiator for Automation Anywhere.

What was our ROI?

We have developed 20 bots in our organization. We have a pretty good ROI as of now.

What other advice do I have?

Go with Automation Anywhere. It is a very good tool. It has an easy to develop process.

You need to set up the proper architecture or you will fail in setting up your process.

Bot use has returned hours back to the organization
Pros and Cons
  • "A project that we automated: A person used to spend about eight to twelve hours every week to finish the process. The bot finishes it in half an hour. Now, the person just reviews it, then passes along the information. This has helped our organization because originally EMEA and APAC would not receive the files the same day that they were processed. But because the bot only takes a half an hour, everyone can now receive the files on the same day."
  • "We had a major issue when it came to single sign-on. We couldn't get it working. There was a bug in Automation Anywhere that eventually got solved just a few weeks back. However, we have not implemented it. We have had hiccups with the single sign-on, but otherwise it was a smooth setup. We are not using single sign-on because of this bug."

What is our primary use case?

Our use case is spread across multiple areas:

  1. We are using it in finance: automating the month-end process.
  2. There are a lot of review processes that happen every week. We are in the middle of that.
  3. We have a product lifecycle management process that when we close the books on a product, information needs to go into multiple systems. We have another bot in system for this.

These are the three things that we have in production right now.

How has it helped my organization?

A project that we automated: A person used to spend about eight to twelve hours every week to finish the process. The bot finishes it in half an hour. Now, the person just reviews it, then passes along the information. This has helped our organization because originally EMEA and APAC would not receive the files the same day that they were processed. But because the bot only takes a half an hour, everyone can now receive the files on the same day.

What is most valuable?

We know the process. It doesn't deviate.

Speed: A process that would take two days for a person every month to do is now completed within two hours.

What needs improvement?

Right now, the audit trail sits in file systems. I would prefer it to be in a database where it is queryable and searchable.

Another major downside is an upgrade. If I have to switch over from single sign-on to non-single sign-on, etc., then it's a complete reinstall. When I do a complete reinstall, I lose a lot of information because it's a new instance. I'm not able to bring information from the old instance and my metrics are all gone. I basically have to reset the whole infrastructure. I would like to see an option to switch over to single sign-on post-installation. It should not have to be a reinstall. It should be part of the installation or configuration.

I wanted to see a cloud version and mobile app but those will be available in the A2019 version.

I would like the bots to be more automatic without having to check emails, which is how we have our tool setup. Going forward, the bots should be more interactive.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

So far, the stability has been pretty good.

We did have some issues when our database server sort of crashed. A lot of processes went uncommitted, so we had to engage the Automation Anywhere support team. They came in to clean up the database and bring the server back up. Otherwise, we have seen pretty good stability.

How are customer service and technical support?

So far, the technical support has been really helpful. We were even able to engage the customer success team when we needed them. They have helped us solve our problems, which is very good.

How was the initial setup?

We had a major issue when it came to single sign-on. We couldn't get it working. There was a bug in Automation Anywhere that eventually got solved just a few weeks back. However, we have not implemented it. We have had hiccups with the single sign-on, but otherwise it was a smooth setup. We are not using single sign-on because of this bug.

What about the implementation team?

We used our implementation partner for the deployment and implementing the bots. Our experience with them was good. Most of them are good developers. They have been able to solve a lot of issues and build a lot of processes.

What was our ROI?

We have seen ROI on two out of our three bot processes. We see ROI from hours returned back to us.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

It is a lot easier to debug Automation Anywhere than UiPath because of the code. Our clients like Automation Anywhere which is another reason that we picked it.

What other advice do I have?

Automate several smaller processes within departments. Show the benefit there before implementing an end-to-end solution. This will get people excited about the solution and kick start the process.

We got our workloads for issues and our bugs fixed, which is why I rated the product a 10 out of 10.

Onboarding process helped us understand how to create a center of excellence, but stability needs improvement
Pros and Cons
  • "Our onboarding process was pretty good. We got access to all software that we needed to learn and utilize. The Automation Anywhere University is really good. In our business, the person who was onboarding us helped us to understand how to create a center of excellence and what verticals we needed to improve. So, the support was there. We are gradually becoming a center of excellence ourselves."
  • "We have found that the passwords are not very stable in terms of their accuracy. We could only get 70 percent accuracy in these cases. Our clients require more accurate results. We are working toward this."

What is our primary use case?

We are a research-based company using cognitive automation.

Our use cases are:

  1. Security.
  2. Card protection and banking.
  3. Traffic management.

All these applications require cognitive automation.

We are here to explore how Automation Anywhere supports cognitive automation.

How has it helped my organization?

One of our security applications requires a lot of newer features in terms of recognizing a lot of objects that affect security, whether we are talking about the security of a building or of an enterprise. Integration automation is now building on growth, e.g., I can upload Microsoft and Azure integrations. This will help us in order to scale up the machine learning aspect, which is required in the applications which we are developing.

What is most valuable?

The tool is developing well and has become more web-based. We require a web-based tool approach because of our clients whom we expect will utilize web-based applications. We see Automation Anywhere is moving into a web-based tool application development. This will help us reach out to our clients.

What needs improvement?

While I am happy with the stability, it could use improvement.

We have found that the passwords are not very stable in terms of their accuracy. We could only get 70 percent accuracy in these cases. Our clients require more accurate results. We are working toward this.

We are looking into other applications and how they can be integrated, e.g., Google Analytics and Azure AI. Instead of developing from scratch within Automation Anywhere, we want to bring out these advanced capabilities from other platforms and integrate them into our platform requirements.

Integration with a lot of existing platforms is going to be a game changer. We already see Automation Anywhere tied up with SAP, Oracle, Salesforce, and Microsoft. We expect that it will be tied up Google Cloud going forward. These type of improvements will increase the adoption rate of the tool and we can have a lot more use cases because a lot of companies they have already invested in ERP.

What do I think about the stability of the solution?

There are good tools which are in the development stage. Recently, there was an issue of stability. We see that there has been a lot of effort from Automation Anywhere experts and R&D, where they have been trying to stabilize every version they are bringing out. There is room for improvement as Automation Anywhere works to stabilize the solution.

What do I think about the scalability of the solution?

The clients whom we are approaching and want to get onboard have a huge application requirement. So, we are requiring that these applications are well suited for the Automation Anywhere product. We feel that there is a lack of trained professionals in the market. Therefore, we have a branch where we can train people, so they can scale up into our application's deployment.

How are customer service and technical support?

They help support our large number of clients. So far, they have been okay. Going forward, we will require a lot more support from Automation Anywhere.

How was the initial setup?

Our onboarding process was pretty good. We got access to all software that we needed to learn and utilize. The Automation Anywhere University is really good. In our business, the person who was onboarding us helped us to understand how to create a center of excellence and what verticals we needed to improve. So, the support was there. We are gradually becoming a center of excellence ourselves.

What about the implementation team?

We have in-house experts who are learning the solution then deploying it. We are looking for partners to deploy the tool for new projects as we learn how to better deploy it.

What was our ROI?

Our clients are seeing an economic downturn. In any economic downturn, margins are a great challenge. As a company, we can bring out profitability by automating a lot of processes on our clients' side. We always recommend to our clients is they can save as much as 25 percent of their CAPEX in the first year, then by second year, they should be able to save up to 50 percent of their OPEX. This can bring them huge profitability.

Which other solutions did I evaluate?

UiPath, Blue Prism, and Automation Anywhere were our three focus areas. We started first with Automation Anywhere. We will definitely explore the other vendors as well, but It is very tough to become an expert of all three platforms.

I happened to go through the available documents on Automation Anywhere's website. I found there is a lot of effort from the company to create an ecosystem of experts. They want a lot of experts to get trained. There is a lot of support on the certification side. So, we thought that it was a good company to start with.

What other advice do I have?

Have a very robust feasibility check of what you want to do. It is very important that you understand your requirements:

  • Why do you require RPA?
  • What will be the return of the investment?
  • What will be the time consumption?
  • Do you need to outsource the entire RPA or develop in-house expertise?

Understand the tool better, then the deployment becomes easier.

The tool is good. I feel that there is a lot of scope for improvement. We have found there is already an R&D effort to build up Automation Anywhere. There are new tools which will soon be integrated into the present setup. It becomes better at every stage.
