We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros
The most valuable features are auto-discovery and automatic detection of the network topology and network monitoring. What I value most about Pandora FMS is the simplicity of working with it.We are able to control our business with this all-in-one monitoring tool.It allows me to quickly see the status of all of my printers, switches, computers, and virtual machines to determine if any system has fallen.Pandora FMS provides us with a general report (graphical) about all of the connected devices, which helps with planning new stations and tracking them. The solution is so lightweight that with only 4GB of ram, it allows keeping track of up to two hundred agents from a single console. Thanks to its flexibility, I have been able to adapt the tool to our servers and find out quickly how their console works. The official forum is active enough to answer most of the high-end technical questions that you may have.

This product can monitor application environments no matter where they reside and provides capabilities for deep insight into infrastructure.Solarwinds has an open database that allows you to do serious integrations. It doesn't matter which service desk you have, you can implement and integrate it with SolarWinds.I'd rate technical support at eight out of ten. They are helpful and fast. The more valuable feature of this solution is the Exchange feature. The solution's most valuable features are PerfStack, AppStack and AppInsight. One of the most valuable features are the reports. They're pretty good. Also, the ease of installation and customization for the client is another feature that we value. SolarWinds has a lot of features but these are the ones I like the most. We also like that the KPIs have the ability to be preset. There are many valuable features, including the network configuration manager, and the network performance manager. The solution is end-to-end from the network and the application to the processes. Everything about the enterprise infrastructure is being covered by the solution. It's easy to use and easy to navigate and one of the leaders among monitoring solutions.

Cons
It would be helpful to include the generation of reports for times that the network was out of service. The price for Pandora FMS is expensive.Third-party integration should be improved for some commonly used products. This solution requires proper training to get 100% out of it.It would be useful if Pandora FMS included an ISO image (or «software appliance») for each big company that leases virtual private machines (VPS), just like in AWS.When it comes to the definition of local Software Agents for the first time in the open-source version, it can become very tedious.I sincerely believe that Pandora needs new ideas for functionality closer to advanced device security monitoring.Pandora FMS is an overall great monitoring solution, but it does not have a community that is as large as Zabbix or Nagios.

This product has no real downside unless they fail to continue development of its capabilities. When you implement SolarWinds on a larger scale my customers complain about the speed. It would be helpful if the solution could integrate more with the security compliances, like this IDSS, etc. Some custom applications cannot be monitored, and a lot more applications need to be included. The solution should implement something like a network configuration manager, or some baseline for server configuration. Many of my customers need a recommendation for server configuration. Implementing that as a feature would be perfect for them. They should incorporate more artificial intelligence. There should also be more predictive features. The setup was complex. We had local support to assist us.There is one feature that is a report writer. And they are currently trying to take it out from being a stand-alone application and integrating to the web. This doesn't give us the flexibility and it doesn't expand what we can get when it comes to reporting. So, putting it on the web is going to make it difficult to get some information. Leaving it where it is now will help us a lot.

Pricing and Cost Advice
The Open Source Community Edition is great to just explore the software, or use it on medium-sized infrastructures.Growing the solution or migrating to the Enterprise version is easy, and various plans are available. The open-source version offers 100% functionality and the hardware requirements for a solution like this one are very modest. In terms of money, the Enterprise version is the cheapest that I have found after a market study. My rule of thumb would be that if you need more than thirty agents, and you lack an automation tool such as Chef or Puppet, you will save a lot of time and money going to the Enterprise edition. You get the license and it includes updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of modules.Pandora FMS is easy to implement and the pricing of licenses is competitive.Only one payment and it includes support, updates, new versions, and access to the complete library of plugins except for SAP and z/OS.

Pricing is inexpensive, starting at 2440 euros. For that, you get the ability to monitor a couple of nodes and one year of maintenance and support. The licenses start from USD 3000.00 and go up to USD 20,000.00 for the year. It's a perpetual license. Nothing is free in SolarWinds, anything that you need is an additional cost. The product might cost you $30,000 USD to buy, but scaling this solution requires the purchase of additional polling engines at $20,000 USD each.Understanding the counts of objects to monitor will determine the licensing need. In terms of pricing, it’s not cheap but it’s not expensive as larger vendors whose products don’t have all the features or integrations.
