Data visualization and the data modeler are the most valuable features of this product to me. I noticed that Qlik takes less time to set up data sources and enables us to integrate multiple tables. It is easier to manage variables with Qlik's data management.

Consultant at a tech consulting company with 51-200 employees
Yet another possibility with QlikView.
I sometimes wonder, haven’t we seen all the possibilities for QlikView?
The answer is simple – NO!
The other day a client of my, asked if I could build some kind of a data warehouse monitor upon their enterprise data warehouse.
This client has a SQL Server data warehouse with QlikView as a frontend. The data in the data warehouse are updated in parallel processes, so data for each country are loaded in different time of the day. They also do ad hoc updates of the data warehouse if needed.
They have a nice log table in the SQL Server data warehouse, telling us when each ETL step is updated, and if there have been any errors in a step. However, reading this log is not that easy. Therefore, they asked if QlikView could visualize the data in some kind of a data warehouse monitor.
My idea was, why not create a one sheet overview, showing each of the component in the data warehouse architecture and visualize this? I wanted to use red and green icons and arrows showing witch part of the data warehouse is currently under update and if there were any errors to take care of.
I ended with this lovely solution:
I have used text-boxes with images as background, color expressions and conditional show of objects.
Simple, very useful and hopefully a good inspiration.

Impressions from Tableau in comparison with QlikView
I had the chance to get to Tableau Customer Conference in early November 2012 and thanks to exceptionally good organization of the event I was able to greatly enhance my picture of Tableau (which I first reviewed 2 years ago) and get answers to some questions.
Below are my impressions from Tableau (which I haven't used in real projects yet) in comparison with QlikView -- tool I've been working with since 2009.
First thing I'd like to tell -- starting from version 8 Tableau can honestly be considered a truly mature product -- a big difference with what I saw two years ago. It's a smartly designed, feature-full and powerful analytic tool which is especially good for ad hoc query and analysis (Q&A). Prior to Tableau I considered BusinessObjects WebIntelligence to be the best Q&A tool on the market. However, in my picture of BI world this honorable title now belongs to Tableau.
Here is what I liked (not in order of importance):
- State-of-art data visualization makes Tableau outstanding in the crowd of BI suites. Tableau people talk about "being creative with data" and it's easy to believe in this while looking at clean and elegant Tableau dashboards. By the way, in French tableau has two meanings -- painting and table. Artwork and data. Excellent match of brand and product concept.
- Drag-n-drop authoring as cornerstone of analysis and design processes. That's what WebIntelligence was good at, but Tableau makes it even better, simpler and easier. Sadly QlikView has almost nothing to offer here -- fields still...

Profesional Management Database and Server, Networking, Virtualization Server. at a manufacturing company with 51-200 employees
Easy to install and connect to MS SQL Server, and provides sales analysis with attractive graphics.
What is most valuable?
It is very simple to use. When I use QlikView, I just install it and then connect it to MS SQL Server. After I make a successful connection, I can, for example:
- Create a simple procedure in MS SQL Server.
- Execute the procedure to get the information I need in a column.
- Design a QlikView report that includes the column from the procedure to preview it in QlikView.
How has it helped my organization?
It provides sales and other analysis with good visual graphics.
What needs improvement?
I would like to see the possibility to change the program if the new program is better than last program.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have used this solution for just three months, because we don’t have enough employees to manage it.
What was my experience with deployment of the solution?
It requires a lot of RAM on the PC.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We will possibly continue using the product.
How was the initial setup?
It is very easy to install.

IT Specialist at a local government with 1,001-5,000 employees
Our productivity-to-cost ratio is much higher than Oracle BI.
Valuable Features
- Ease of use
- High custom development potential
- Adaptability
Improvements to My Organization
We are now getting coordinated management areas, which were practically delinked until now.
Room for Improvement
- More support through contextual menus
- Adapting to the new Qlik Sense (HTML 5) environment
Use of Solution
I have used it for eight months.
Deployment Issues
I encountered difficulties managing computer RAM.
Customer Service and Technical Support
Technical support is 8/10.
Initial Setup
Initial setup was straightforward.
Implementation Team
We implemented QlikView independently without difficulty. We needed support for installing Qlik Server.
ROI
We are at a too-early stage of implementation to evaluate this, but we anticipate difficulties in expanding its use due to the high cost of licenses.
Other Solutions Considered
We use QlikView and Oracle BI, but the productivity-to-cost ratio is much higher with QlikView.
Other Advice
You need to assess carefully the choice between QlikView and Qlik Sense. We do not understand too well the coexistence of two products with the same function.
