VMware SRM Benefits
Thanks to SRM, we haven't had any kind of disaster in our environment.
View full review »It has simplified data center application and failover processes, but the underlying technologies can be challenging.
If we're using replication appliances, configuring them to work with SRM can be complex. Additionally, bandwidth and VM size can impact performance.
I would rate the ease of setting up and configuring my recovery plan in VMware SRM, a ten out of ten, with ten being the easiest.

Earlier, in case of disaster or server failure we had to rebuild the whole server/virtual machine from scratch. This rebuilding process used to take anywhere from close to a day or more, affecting production time.
With VMware vSphere Replication and SRM combined, we were able to cut down outage windows to a maximum of one hour.
We are making good use of replicated VMs for testing of OS/application update, before applying same to the production environment.

This product allows organizations to have a solid BC business continuity plan in place in case of disaster. By running regularly scheduled simulated test fail overs a business can realistically plan accordingly and customize their DR strategy.
From a VMware perspective, we use SRM, or Site Recovery Manager, for disaster recovery. SRM has an automated recovery process, which reduces the need for manual intervention during a disaster. This minimizes downtime and ensures faster recovery times.
The automation of failover and failback processes. is key. During a disaster or planned migration, SRM automates the failover process to the recovery site. It coordinates the shutdown of virtual machines on the protected site and powers on corresponding VMs on the recovery side.
This automation is crucial because it may involve hundreds of VMs that can't fail over all at once. SRM follows a specific procedure, ensuring that virtual machines are recovered in the correct order according to a predefined recovery plan. This minimizes downtime and ensures complete recovery.
Additionally, after a disaster or migration event has been resolved, SRM automates the failback process. This allows you to return virtual machines and data to the original production site.

If you can plan and create a recovery plan correctly, it will do and replicate virtual machines and when a disaster occurs, you can easily replicate off the secondary site. If you create a proper primary recovery plan, you have good protection.

We have a system that can now move us to a DR site. I have yet to experience any major crisis, however, so I haven't yet tried it.

We had not achieved our RTO before the SRM implementation. But now, we have achieved our RTO for DR drill.
View full review »You know, I've gone to a lot of Site Recovery Manager training here and stuff. One of the things that I think that they minimize is that normally you'll never use your DR site. But what you have to do every year is test your DR site.

Gives us the ability for true DR testing, readiness.

More confidence over DR services
View full review »None, I implement this product for customers.
View full review »The company was able to provide customers with the required RPO that was not possible with traditional backup solutions.
View full review »Organisations that have implemented SRM in my experience have confidence that their mission critical systems will be recovered within the given SLA in the event of a planned or unplanned availability event. This avoids costly and time consuming DR recovery tests which are also often unrepresentative of the real scenario.
View full review »it is a complementary solution to EMC's data recovery solutions, or RecoverPoint. Combined with VMware SRM it offers zero RPO and zero RTO, so it's a good solution for both EMC's Toolkit, and for the customer.
