We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The solution is stable.""We use Microsoft Project Server for project management.""This is a scalable solution. It is easy to set up and to add clusters to your environment.""Resource allocation is the most valuable feature of Microsoft Project Server.""SharePoint site integration""The most valuable feature of the solution stems from the fact that the tool's reporting is very good.""There are many valuable features of this solution. It is very advanced and once you understand and learn how to use it, it can be quite powerful. The whole package can be quite powerful.""It's stable and reliable."

"I like the ease of customization from an admin perspective. I'm really excited about some of the things that are coming in version 10.0.3 as far as what admins are able to do.""Micro Focus PPM is flexible and easy to use. It's simple to customize and configure workflows.""The portfolio management and the resource management are the key features.""Micro Focus Project and Portfolio Management (PPM) has a very strong workflow engine.""It's a very detailed tool. As far as an enterprise is concerned, it gives you the flexibility to manage everything: portfolios, projects, finances, proposals, resources, and time... It takes care of even the minor details that need to be captured. The project management functionality is configured really well within the tool. That stands out.""Recent Program Management lifecycle, Program Management aggregation views due to interactive UI (selection of risks, issues, and changes in Program Overview) and “flash look & feel" of this functional chunk, which is different in comparison to other parts of HPE PPM.""Overall, they have a very strong workflow management capability. That's a very strong feature because then you can model any process easily. Whether it is a demand management process, a pipeline management process, or your project delivery methodology, it is much easier because of their workflow management capability.""The data provided by PPM is trusted and is available almost immediately; without trusted data there is very less scope of any tool to be successful."

"The most valuable feature of Trello stems from the fact of how easy it was with it to see large visual aspects, especially when people were getting their workflow in order.""The usability of this solution is its most valuable feature. It offers a great flow of creating a business rule that allows you to just add identifiers and qualifiers.""Trello is not as complex as most of the other products are.""I really enjoy the drag-and-drop feature.""Projects do not take as long and meetings take less time, since you know the status of developments or tests.""It offers a very solid service alongside its innovative features and capabilities.""You receive notifications if mentioned on a card.""Trello's most valuable feature is its visuals. You can customize your board with covers and pictures. There are no restrictions in workflow columns as in Jira. It is a powerful solution to organize work. Jira is process-oriented and restrictive."

Cons
"Resource management has room for improvement because it uses a lot of resources.""Project Server could be improved by simplifying how tasks are assigned and reviewed on a daily basis.""It should be more agile and more flexible when it comes to customization.""Stability of the solution is an area with certain shortcomings where improvements are required.""Permission management needs improvement.""Microsoft Project Server's user interface is pretty average, and sometimes it can have bugs.""There need to be more tutorials available to users.""The solution could have more compact dashboards, such as one finds with Planview."

More Microsoft Project Server Cons →

"The user interface is very, very old and is missing some functions, such as, for example, re-do, follow, and share functions. The UI is not good.""User interface continues to be poor. The product does not have a similar view in the different modules, e.g., staffing vs financial management, it looks like you are working with a different product and it is not easy to use or intuitive.""Sometimes features in PPM don't work as expected, or our users request a new feature. Typically, our partner vendor can deploy those changes. But there have been a few instances when we had to raise it with Micro Focus because it's beyond the ability of our partner vendor. When we raise the issue with Micro Focus, it sometimes takes time because it needs support from other customers using PPM, not just our bank. It goes through a voting system. Other customers need to vote for the feature. The features that get the most votes will possibly be added.""We had a couple of issues with stability or performance degradation about a year ago, around the time of the initial rollout. Since then, we've only had two unexpected outages that were quickly resolved.""Currently, HPE PPM does not allow “Project” approval, but only simple “Demand Request” approval (mobility).""We constantly put in requests for some of the things we need. One of those is being able to export just our standard request type to PDF.""Reporting; need to be able to provide fancy reporting out of PPM, way it is done in OBIEE etc.""Micro Focus PPM should be less dependent on coding. It could also benefit from some updates to the software architecture. These have been on the roadmap for years now, but they haven't been released."

More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Cons →

"Users should be able to log their time against the tasks and visual reports should be available in Trello for time spent.""There aren't as many tracking tools.""Sometimes the notifications are not updated on iOS.""Having more integration with third party tools is an area for improvement in Trello. It would also be nice if it has a voice messaging functionality similar to what you have in WhatsApp, for quicker communication with colleagues.""Pricing can be improved.""Reporting features could be improved.""The product is not easy to use.""The documentation is not readily accessible. It is difficult to connect with technical support. Additionally, their knowledge base seems limited."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I think they need more flexibility with licensing, because there are preconceived ideas that don't allow as much flexibility with the various licenses."
  • "The licensing was procured before my involvement."
  • "It has features that cannot be bought by other rivals, so cost does not matter."
  • "It is on the expensive side."
  • "There is a licensing cost."
  • "There is an annual license required for this solution."
  • "I cannot comment on the price as I was not responsible for purchasing the solution."
  • "I'm not quite sure about the licensing costs. We're probably paying somewhere in the neighborhood of about 80,000 to 90,000 a year for our current on-prem because we handle our own licensing. As far as Project Online is concerned, we're still trying to get a good handle on that. It looks like it is going to be in a neighborhood of about 120,000 to 150,000 a year, but we're getting a lot more capability out of it."

  • "Support and license management are two hurdles for us. Every time we purchase new licenses, it has taken us half a year to implement those."
  • "It is SaaS without a base fee."
  • "HPE PPM SaaS model is comprehensive, however, the base fee component has customer resistance to its recurring setup,"
  • "Now, we also received an increase in the support license prices, without any advanced notice. At this point, switching to unify all our licensing under HPE and customer support has been poor."
  • "We have an annual license, and it is fairly priced in comparison to that of other solutions."
  • "A large organization will find Micro Focus PPM affordable, but it may be a bit costly for a small or medium-sized company. The license is based on the number of users."
  • More OpenText Project and portfolio Management Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Maybe it would be better if they offered some extra tiers, so you don't have to go all the way up to the pro level."
  • "I use the free version of Trello, which is sufficient for my day to day use."
  • "I am tinkering with the free version."
  • "The free version of Trello covers all of the bases and all of our needs, so there's no cost involved for us. This is surprising for such a quality platform with no limitations on the key functionalities, though it also has a paid version."
  • "Its pricing is good. It is about $6 per license for what we use, but then there are other plans as well, such as $12 a month. I would rate it a nine out of ten in terms of pricing."
  • "The pricing for this solution is reasonable."
  • "We are currently using the open-source option."
  • "Paying for the solution's license is worth it only if our enterprise or organization can use Trello, integrated with some other solution, and we can have good reports."
